Mario Shell Defense 2.0 offers you a very interesting game in which you play as Mario, who's desperately trying to defend himself against an onslaught of Koopa shells! Use the left/right arrow keys to run, the space bar to jump, and the "e" button to shoot fireballs! Shoot fireballs at the shells to destroy them.
If you get hit by a shell, it's game over. Only tested on Win XP so far, but as far as I know it's cross-platform compatible. Please leave your comments and criticism, and feel free to poke around through the code and comment on how I could be doing things better.
Enhancements:
- Added in this version: Mario is now animated, and can jump on shells to destroy them and get points!
- Fixed: File name issues that caused errors in Linux and Mac OS. Also tweaked some code to fix errors for Linux users.
- To do: Maybe give Mario a health bar? Perhaps make him shrink when hit the first time, then dying after the second hit (like the original Mario platformers). I'm just sort of winging this, since this project is really just a learning experience for me. Suggestions welcome!

Gun Self Defense Counter 3.1
Counts how many times guns have been used in self-defense since January 1 of the current year. more>> Counts how many times guns have been used in self-defense since January 1 of the current year.
If you use a Macintosh and carry a gun or just value our Bill of Rights, you might want to download our Gun Self-Defense Counter widget. It is the widget form of the counter that appears at the top of this page, just below the menu.
Using data from authoritative studies on the use of guns, in self-defense, it counts how many times guns have been used in self-defense, since the beginning of this year.
The widget ticks over another number every 13 seconds. The back side of the widget has a scrollable window that details where the data for these calculations originated. Those of you who saw the earlier versions of this widget will notice that the front side of the new version 3.0 has been reduced in size.
This is to preserve Dashboard space for other widgets. But, the widget expands when flipped over, to make it easier to read the details. It also resets automatically on January 1 of each successive year.
Calculations used in this widget are based on the now famous study by renowned criminologists Gary Kleck & Marc Gertz that was reported in the The Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, Northwestern University School of Law, (Fall 1995) titled, "Armed Resistance to Crime: The Prevalence and Nature of Self-Defense With a Gun."
This is the most exhaustive and detailed study of how guns are used in self defense, to date. The study shows that guns are used in self-defense about 2.5 million times a year or once every 13 seconds, on average. In other words, guns are used about 60 times more often to protect innocent life than to take a life. Handguns are involved in over 1.9 million of those self-defense cases.
Enhancements
- This version makes the widget completely compatible with OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Backup Shell Script 8.30.02
The backup shell script copies a Mac OS X HFS+ boot volume to a target directory, including resource forks and Unix access rights more>> The backup shell script copies a Mac OS X HFS+ boot volume to a target directory, including resource forks and Unix access rights. After downloading the file, open a Terminal window and go to the folder where you have stored the script (e. g. by typing "cd ", then dragging the download folder from the Finder to the Terminal window, then typing the return key). Then make the script executable by typing "chmod +x backup", followed by the return key. (The optimal place to store the backup script is the directory /usr/local/sbin. On Unix systems, there are local system binaries located.) Now assume a HFS+ backup disk or partition called BackupDisk. When mounted on Mac OS X, in the file system this volume is found at /Volumes/BackupDisk. To create a backup on this disk, type "sudo backup /Volumes/BackupDisk" in the Terminal window.
When the backup command has finished, it is possible to boot Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X from BackupDisk. Before starting the backup, verify that "privileges" are honored on the BackupDisk. Otherwise all files of the backup are owned by the currently logged in user, and the backup becomes worthless. To check the privileges settings, open the Info window for the BackupDisk in the Finder and switch to the Privileges pane. Then uncheck the "Ignore privileges on this volume" checkbox. (With the command line, you can check or modify this settings with the vsdbutil command. "sudo vsdbutil -c /Volumes/BackupDisk" shows the current privilege settings, "sudo vsdbutil -a /Volumes/BackupDisk" lets the system honor the privileges on the disk and "sudo vsdbutil -d /Volumes/BackupDisk" makes the system ignoring the privileges.)
Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

mario`sudoku a.0.0.4
mario`sudoku is..a Sudoku game more>>
The level of difficulty of the sudoku is set by the number of revealed tiles you choose from its pop up menu. The more tiles you show the easier the game obviously gets.
You may click on any tile, revealed or empty to change/enter a number 1 to 9 even those revealed automatically and therefore right in my solution. There might be more than 1 solution to a sudoku and I have solved the game in a different way than the one created originally.
You may choose to have row and column highlited for you or a square to help you work out possible numbers.
In assisted mode, when button assist ticked, as you hover over empty tiles they will show you all the possible numbers for that spot, one at a time. Possible numbers are those not in that column, row or square only. Your cursor will be hidden and the tile will change colour. When all possible numbers have displayed then the tile will flash, return to its original colour, and the pointer will reappear. As you click on that tile a dialog box is displayed to allow you to enter a number. In that dialog window you are reminded again of all possible numbers for that spot. If there is only 1 possible number for that spot then that number is also entered for you in the text entry field and selected. This helps fast players to just hit enter or return to accept that choice. You may change that number if you wish.
At present you may not work in assisted mode and have rows or square highlited.
Hint gives you one right clue. It shows you a number in a randomly chosen unfilled spot and mariosudoku will remember that you have asked for a hint.
Check reports on how you do, hints auto-solutions and mistakes you are currently making according to my creation of that sudoku. Remember you might still be right and you might be able to solve the sudoku in an alternative way.
Undo and redo are unlimited.
Solve reveals all tiles according to you my solution. (that might not necessarily be yours). Undo returns you to where you were before but mariosudoku will remember that you have auto-solved it.
If you save mariosudoku will create a file called mariosudoku prefs in its folder (directory). mariosudoku will read it at start up and set up accordingly. Remove it and on your next restart youll get back to a default (no tiles revealed) screen. Save and another file will be written.
Should a box pop up saying something went wrong, please type what you were doing when it happened in the main field and either email it to me from the provided button or save it to disk and email it to me later at the address below. Quit mariosudoku and then restart it.
You will be contributing to make a better mariosudoku.
Thanks for trying it and for all your help!
Enhancements:
To upgrade any version trash the previous version and use the current one.
New/Changed things in this version:
- Tiles always revert to original state (white) when the mouse is moved out of them
- Save now works properly and added menu File:Save to allow for user wanting to save manually when game is created but before it is started
- Added menu File:revert to saved to quickly restart game from last save. Revert to saved differs from Replay this sudoku which restarts the game from scratch.
- Changed some shortcut command keys in menu items.
- PS I should be able to start work on vers a.0.0.5 in 4 weeks time.
