In order to help celebrate this momentous anniversary, widget : widget is extremely proud to announce the immediate availability of Magnum Opus, the largest compendium of Apple hardware icons ever made. This icon set has been in preparation for over 18 months. It contains no less than 270 individual icons, 4,769,280 individual pixels, in addition to a great deal of time, patience, and love. Every single Apple computer ever made is covered. If youre looking for a Newton icon, theres bound to be one here. If youve got a new eMac and need something cool to identify it by, then theres an eMac icon too. Even if you feel a bit nostalgic and fancy remembering the Lisa, Macintosh TV, or even the good ol Macintosh 128k, theyre all here as well. In addition to computers, the set also contains over 100 accessory icons, ranging from various ADB mouse to the brand new iPod mini.
Apple hasnt always had an easy ride. The mid-nineties nearly killed the company, and not a month goes by without a smug, pessimistic analyst foretelling the companys death. Yet one thing has remained synonymous with Apple over its tenure: the Macintosh. This is the product that has shaped Apple the most. Not the Apple I, or even the Lisa have had such a profound over Apple, let alone the world of computing. Whilst it may seem as though the Macintosh was launched only yesterday, twenty years is a long time. Its uncertain as to whether the Macintosh of tomorrow will be very similair to what we use now. But one thing is certain: it will probably be better.

Apple iMac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 brings users a necessary update which is for 20-inch and 24-inch aluminum iMac computers with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics processor, running Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later with iMac Software Update 1.2.1 for Tiger, or Mac OS X 10.5 with iMac Software Update 1.3 for Leopard. Note: If you are running Mac OS X 10.5.1, iMac Software Update 1.3 is included.
It updates the graphics firmware on the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO card to address issues that may have caused the computer to freeze. Not every 20-inch and 24-inch aluminum iMac computer requires this update. If you are not automatically presented with this update, your computer does not need it. If you manually download this update and attempt to install it on an ineligible computer, you will receive an error message. If you manually download the update and receive the following error message when selecting a volume, "You cannot install iMac Graphics Firmware Update on this volume. Your computer does not need this update," one of two conditions exist:

Sets the ratings for tracks in your iTunes library according to how often each track is played/skipped relative to other tracks in your library. more>>
This application sets the rating for all tracks in your iTunes library according to how often each track is played, and how often each track is skipped. The formula uses a combination of play and skip frequency (averaged out over the life of each track), and the play and skip count. Tracks that are frequently skipped are penalised, while often-played tracks are given a higher rating. It uses a 10 bin normal cumulative distribution based histogram to automatically scale the ratings so that the mean rating is ~3. Optionally you can use a linear scale with manual shift, scale factor and mid range skewing.
Both the track play count & skip count are used in conjunction with the length of time each track has been in your library to determine, on a relative basis, how much you like each track. Ratings become dynamic and change with your taste in music following how you listen to your songs. Complete (and meaningful) ratings allow you to quickly select playlists of songs that you like most, or maybe some old classics that need attention.

Click the More Information link on this page for all the other audio-based quartz screensavers Ive made. I may try to combine some of these, but keeping CPU use low is the priority.
To use these create (if it doesnt already exist) a folder called "Screen Savers" in your ~/Library folder and place the file there. It will then be available in ScreenSavers preference pane.
Note: If you are using a PowerMac or other computer without a built in microphone, you need to either adjust your default input in Sound Preference Pane so the screensaver can "hear" it, or email me or leave a comment if that doesnt work, so I can provide a version that monitors the line in. (I dont have a computer like this to test it on.)
