Life Clock 1.1

Life Clock 1.1

Life Clock - Screen saver statistically counts down your life expectancy more>>
Life Clock is a freeware screen effects module for Mac OS X. It displays how many minutes you have left to live and the current time.
Using your birthdate and gender, it calculates the statistical life expectancy for someone your age, based on data for 1999 from the National Center for Health Statistics. These data only apply to people up to 100 years old, so if you are older than 100, beware of extrapolation.
The original version of this program was written in 1994 as a holiday present for a hard-to-buy-for family member.
Completly freeware.
Enhancements:
- In response to criticism, changed the art.....hopefully it is less ugly now!

CarbonErrors 1.2

CarbonErrors 1.2

CarbonErrors - Get definitions for arcane error numbers more>>
Ever had an error number thrown up by an application, only to have no idea what its all about? Well, there used to be a wee program for the Mac in the days before OS X, called MacErrors. You could launch it, punch in the error number and youd get some description of the error. If you look hard enough, the application still exists and still works inside the Classic environment, but you do still have to wait for Classic to load up if its not already running!
Given that Id completely forgotten about the program until someone asked about an error number -127, Ill probably find that no-one actually needs to use this new improved Cocoa version of it. Nevertheless, here it is, FREE, for your pleasure! In all honesty, the main reason I wrote it is so that I could get some idea of what it was like to release a program to the general public and have people actually use it! Ive written a few programs before, but none that Ive taken enough time over to make usable for anyone else! :-)
Unfortunately, there are still a number of error codes in there that have no official description and I cant offer any more information on them. If you have any constructive criticism, ideas for the next version or descriptions of unexplained error codes please let me know (either here or in the forums). Likewise, get in touch if you would like the source code or have created an icon you think might be suitable. Im no artist by any stretch of the imagination! I do hope you like CarbonErrors and find it useful.
Enhancements:
- Updated for OS X 10.3 (always worked for me, but not for everyone apparently!).
- Also now disposes of "About" box properly.

Mario Shell Defense 2.0

Mario Shell Defense 2.0

Mario Shell Defense offers you a very interesting game in which you play as Mario, whos desperately trying to defend himself against an onslaught of Koopa shells! more>>

Mario Shell Defense 2.0 offers you a very interesting game in which you play as Mario, who's desperately trying to defend himself against an onslaught of Koopa shells! Use the left/right arrow keys to run, the space bar to jump, and the "e" button to shoot fireballs! Shoot fireballs at the shells to destroy them.

If you get hit by a shell, it's game over. Only tested on Win XP so far, but as far as I know it's cross-platform compatible. Please leave your comments and criticism, and feel free to poke around through the code and comment on how I could be doing things better.

Enhancements:

  • Added in this version: Mario is now animated, and can jump on shells to destroy them and get points!
  • Fixed: File name issues that caused errors in Linux and Mac OS. Also tweaked some code to fix errors for Linux users.
  • To do: Maybe give Mario a health bar? Perhaps make him shrink when hit the first time, then dying after the second hit (like the original Mario platformers). I'm just sort of winging this, since this project is really just a learning experience for me. Suggestions welcome!

DeAvalon 1.0b3

DeAvalon 1.0b3

Application restrictor for users. more>>
DeAvalon is an application restrictor that allows certain users to only have access to specific programs. Currently it removes non-admin access after a designated time though adds around 10 seconds (we hope this wont matter much in the long scheme of things).

It beeps a ten second count down before it closes, and depending on if we want or not it will shut down or restart or sleep your system. No visual timer is yet implemented though will be. Betas are always not up to par so constructive criticism only please.

J-Battle 0.5

J-Battle 0.5

J-Battle - BattleShips-alike game more>>
When I was very young, I got an electronic version of BattleShips (called "Sea Battle") for Christmas one year. I loved it, I could play against the "built-in computer" (a big thing in those days!) in various modes or against a friend. We thought it was fabulous and played it and played it until we damn near broke it. Sadly, it is now broken, probably from having been consigned to the attic for the last 16-or-so years!!
Anyway, Ive wanted to play it again for ages, so I set about writing my own version of it. I know there are others out there, but theyre all either not quite what Im looking for or take too long to set up and get stuck into a game. J-Battle is as simple as it gets: fire it up, select "New Game" and click where you want to shoot at. Its absolutely great if youve got a few minutes to spare or if youre bored at work! ;)
I hope you like playing J-Battle. Ill admit that its not exactly addictive, but it is very good for a quick fix if thats all youre after. If theres anything you particularly like about J-Battle, anything you want to know, have any constructive criticism or ideas for future versions, please let me know. Likewise if you would like the source code or have created an icon you think might be better. Actually, while Im on the subject of the icon, if you own the picture that the current icon came from, then Im sorry but I found the pic via Google image search a number of months ago and cant for the life of me remember where it came from! Let me know and Ill credit you or change it.
If you find yourself playing J-Battle a lot, please consider making a wee donation to help me continue writing programs for Mac OS X. Ive got a few more ideas up my sleve, so itd be a really good incentive. Thanks.
Enhancements:
- Initial release!

The program comes with many rule files, for generating haiku-like poems, blues lyrics, definitions, insults, art criticism, story plots, and much more.
Enhancements:
- It was just pointed out that the odds used to insert elements had been inadvertently disabled. This is now fixed.
