Link Me!/Open Me! is an interesting set of scripts! "Link Me!" will allow you to place a link button to another QuarkXPress document on the current documents layout. When run, the script will prompt you for the document to "link to" and then create a picture box containing an icon on the top left of the current page.

It will also place a text box containing the name of the "link to" file next to the picture box.

Select both boxes (group them if you like) and move them to the pasteboard or wherever you desire. The text box containing the "link to" doc name is created for your convienince and may be deleted if you want since the picture box contains the link!

To open "link to" documents, select the link icon boxes representing the files to open (dont worry if theyre grouped since the script will find "see" them anyway), and run the "Open Me!" script--it will open all "link to" documents. If a "link to" document has been moved to another location, the script will offer to find every matching file and open them. The "Open Me!" script requires the scriptable Finder that ships with system 7.5 or higher.

SLopen 1.0 brings users with help to automate the changing of the preferred application for documents to open with to that of their creating application so that double clicking the document on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard causes the creating application to open the document and not the system default application for the document's file type.

The problem:

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard no longer respects the creator code of document files. When double clicked, such files now open using the default application for the file's type and not the creating application. In other words, the "when I double click a document in Snow Leopard, I want it to open under not " problem. For example, you want your Photoshop-created PNG files opened by Photoshop, not by Preview.

Solution:

Change the "Opens with" setting for all document files to that of the creating application. You can do this by hand but if you have a lot of documents, this can get tedious. This program can automate the process for you. Note that this is really a work-around and not a true solution to the problem but for most people, this work-around will probably be sufficient.

This problem can only be properly solved by storing the preferred application's bundle identifier as metadata with the document. Until that solution is implemented by Apple, changing the "Opens with" setting is the best known work-around for the problem.

Randomly Open iTunes is an AppleScript that only launches files whose type is iTunes ("hook") so if you have a folder of MP3s for other applications, youll have more work to do... adapt this script to do whatever you want. Be my guest. :)

Type in first few characters of a folder name and the Open Folder AppleScript highlights first match in a list, then opens the one you select. Fast!

The Unreal Tournament Open Server script will allow you to just type the IP or address of the server you wish to connect to, goto that server.

It defaults to "ma2.clanmacaddict.com" (my clans public server) but you are allowed to modify the script to fit your needs.

Have you ever had a message appear that says "Not enough memory..." yada yada yada when you dont have any applications launched? Well sometimes when you quit a program for some reason the memory that was previously being used by the program gets locked up. This means that the computer still thinks you have a program using the memory and keeps you from accessing it. Restarting the Finder can cure this problem in seconds. Once you restart the finder it will likely recognize that no programs are using said memory and will free it up.
Ever run processor intensive programs such as emulators (ie. Virtual PC or SNES9X) and games? Well if you dont have a spiffy new imac or a lightening fast blue and white tower and you arent getting the performance that you want from these applications, then quitting the Finder may help improve your speed. When you quit the Finder you will notice that the finder is no longer available in the active application menu in the top right corner of the screen and you cannot simply click the desktop to make it return. I can hear you asking "How do get my Finder back?" Fear not my friend, simply quit all open applications and the Finder will return.
I offer no guarantees with this script to how much performance you will gain. I also take no responsibility for any damage it may cause. I use this script quite frequently on my own mac and have never encountered a single serious problem since its creation.
