LCDtest 1.0.1
LCDtest is a utility that simply helps you test your LCD screen for bad or stuck pixels more>>
LCDtest is a utility that simply helps you test your LCD screen for bad or stuck pixels.
Each pixel in the LCD is made up of 3 transitors for Red, Green, and Blue. With thousands of pixels and 3 transitors per pixel it isnt uncommon to have a problem. This program will cycle through the 5 basic colors (black, red, green, blue, and white) so that you can determine if and where bad pixels exist by examining your screen.
Enhancements:
- Version 1.0.1 now hides the cursor unless you use the command key to display the menubar.

LogitechLCDTool 0.7b
LogitechLCDTool provides the missing Mac support for Logitech speakers with LCD display more>>
This is where LogitechLCDTool comes in. It provides the missing Mac support for this panel. Logitech does not provide Mac software to enable the display or about half of the buttons.
Some buttons do work out of the box because Mac OS X understands their purpose, for example mute and volume up/down are mostly OK.
Without supporting software, the remaining buttons are dead and the display shows Z-10 permanently, which gets old pretty quickly.
Logitechs Windows software for the Z-10 supports interactive mini-applications which display more or less useful things like iTunes track information, computer system load or the number of new email messages. The software also makes the previous/next/play/pause buttons work with your media player of choice. There is a software development kit to write such mini applications.
After I bought the speakers, I spent some time reverse-engineering the USB communications between the Windows software and the speakers and reading open source code for a similar Logitech product, the G-15 gaming keyboard.
The program actually does much more than simply mediating between iTunes and the speakers. It certainly does that well and if thats all you need, it only takes one click to get started.

LCDTest for Windows for Macintosh 2.0
An application that helps you test your liquid crystal display (LCD). more>> LCDtest is an application that helps you test your liquid crystal display (LCD) that is commonly found in todays flat panel and laptop displays.
Each pixel in an LCD has three transistors. One for the color red, green, and blue. This application will test these transistors in all relevant states.
LCDtest can only help you identify back or stuck pixels on your LCD. It cannot repair the monitor. Once you have identified a pixel that is not working properly you may be able to fix the issue with a massaging technique that is explained in the application.
LCDtest is a free utility and does not cost anything to download or use.<<less

PiXel Check 1.2
PiXel Check - LCD piXel testing utility more>>
Click the mouse button or press any key to dismiss a test or jump to the next color in the "Automatic" mode.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the FIRST and ONLY LCD pixel checking utility for OS X. Why do I say this? Well, I couldnt find any, so I wrote PiXel Check! :)
For those who care, it was written in Objective-C using Cocoa.
Enhancements:
- This version of PiXel Check is dedicated to the seven brave men and women of the Space Shuttle Columbia who lost their lives on February 1, 2003.
- Multiple monitor support! There are no options to select, it just magically detects your extra display(s).
- Help (English) is now available from within the application.
- Added Italian localization, thanks to Max Rotunno.
- Cleaned up more code and corrected a description faux pas relating to Black and White test modes.
GMail Checker 2.0
GMail Checker - A quick way to see if you have any new emails in your GMail account. more>> Screenshot Helper shows a full screen window with a solid color or a desktop picture.
The easiest way to get a clean desktop for screenshots on Mac OS X is to create a brand-new user account and log in as a brand-new user. But if you need to use your own user account for whatever reason and you have a messy desktop like mine, you can use this application to hide the actual desktop in order to take clean screenshots.
You can also make the entire screen solid black, white, red, green, or blue to check dead or stuck pixels on your LCD screen, or for a blue or green screen chroma key.<<less

Jhead 2.5
Jhead - The files coming out of a pretty much all Digital cameras are in the Exif flavour of Jpeg files more>>
Because I am interested in photography, I am always curious just exactly what settings my fully automatic digital camera actually did end up using. Theres a few programs out there that can parse some of these headers, but I couldnd find one that I could compile to an executable, and none that actually figured out what the camera settings were from the various confusing ways in which the fields can be expressed.
Parsing the data of interest out of an Exif header is not straightforward. There is a large number of ways that simple data such as shutter speed or aperture setting can be expressed in inside of an Exif header. It can be an integer of various forms, or a fraction or floating point, which must subsequently be raised to a power to get the true value. Then it can be stored big-endian or little endian, and there are different fields for expressing the same values! It sounds like complete eveolutionary anarchy, but I think its just a comitee designed spec.
With all its complexity, interestingly enough, plain text ASCII would both be smaller in size and easier to parse! So I wrote this command line driven program to parse through the little file system in the Exif headers and extract the stuff I really care about: What the digital camera settings really were.
The other thing I realized is that the files coming out of most digital cameras contain an integral thumbnail as part of the Exif header. This thumbnail is used for flipping through really tiny images on the LCD, although most cameras, when viewing just one image on the LCD dont use it (too little detail).
This thumbnail takes up typically around 10k of data in the header. Once the picture is off the camera, even the software that comes with the camera doesnt use the thumbnail in the file, so its really just wasted space. So I added an option (-dt option) that reads the whole Jpeg image, figures out where the useful part of the Exif header ends, discards the thumbnail, and saves it back to disk. where the thumbnail is, and writes everything (including the rest of the Exif header) back Result: 10k space savings, with all the important information, including the digital camera information in the exif header intact. No loss of image quality, and very fast. So far all software I tried, including the software that comes with the digital cameras, has worked fine, and is still able to parse the Exif header.
Main features:
- Integral low-res Exif thumbnail
- Shutter speed
- Camera F-stop number
- Flash used (yes/no)
- Distance camera was focused at
- Focal length and calculate 35 mm equivalent focal length
- Image resolution
- Time and date picture was taken
- Camera make and model
- Up-right images according to rotation tag using jpegtran
- Set or relative adjust internal exif timestamps
- Re-name or date stamp fils according to exif timestamp
- Transfer exif headers between images
- Edit jpeg comments
- Delete exif or comment sections from jpeg images
Enhancements:
- Added -rgt (regenerate thumbnail) feature.
- Added -orp and -orl options.
