Color Spaces 1.0

Color Spaces 1.0

Color Spaces - Spec color in the RGB, HSV/B and HLS color spaces and convert between them more>>
I created the Color Spaces library to address the lack of more than just the RGB color space in Flash. Using AdvancedColor.as you can spec color in the RGB, HSV/B and HLS color spaces and convert between them. Handy for hue-cycling!

The AdvancedColor object essentially extends the built-in Color object by adding the ability to specify color for a movie clip in any of the RGB, HLS or HSV/B color spaces. It also provides static methods that allow direct conversion between color spaces.

wayback 1.4.0

wayback 1.4.0

Open source java implementation of the The Internet Archive Wayback Machine more>> Open source java implementation of the The Internet Archive Wayback Machine

The current production version of the Wayback Machine is implemented in perl, and lacks in maintainability and extensibility. Also, the code is not open source. Primary motivation for the new version is to address these three issues, enabling public distribution of the application, and easy experimentation with new features and access technologies.
The current Java version of the Wayback Machine supports three access, or Replay modes of operation: "Archival Url" mode "Proxy" mode, and "Domain Prefix" mode.
Archival URL mode provides a user experience very close to the current production Wayback Machine. All query and replay access requests can be expressed as URLs. In Archival Url replay mode, archived content is modified as it is returned to users, attempting to make links and embedded content refer back to the Wayback Machine by rewriting them as Archival URLs.
Proxy URL mode allows replaying of archived documents within a client browser by configuring the browser to proxy all HTTP requests through the Wayback Machine. This has the strong advantage that no Javascript or server side page markup is required to coerce the client browser to request additional URLs and embedded content from the Wayback Machine -- content just works as-is.
When used with the Firefox plugin extension, available here , client browsers can navigate between versions of the current document, and the Wayback Machine server will attempt to display images from the same time period as pages being viewed.
The Proxy URL mode will require special configuration of the client web browser to access the Wayback Service. This browser configuration is not complex, but it means that content will not be available as a global URL.
DomainPrefix mode is similar to ArchivalUrl mode, but uses a wildcard DNS scheme to rewrite URLs, allowing all URL substitution to occur on the server. This mode is considered experimental.
The current Java version can operate in several deployment modes, ranging from a stand alone application on a single host holding all archived documents and indexes, up to a highly distributed system where indexes and archived content is spread across hundreds of machines.
In the local, standalone mode, this software includes the capability to scan for new archived content in a specified location, and to automatically index and serve the new content as it appears.
Directing the Wayback to look for ARC files in the directory where an instance of the Heritrix web crawler is writing ARC output should provide the capability to browse content archived by Heritrix as it is crawled.

System requirements:
-
-

Enhancements:
- Completely new implementation of ResourceStore classes, including recursive local directory scanning, scanning multiple local directories, an experimental remote directory scanning capability, and groundwork for future support of both non ARC/WARC file formats and large scale automatic indexing.
- Complete overhaul of the Replay system, allowing jspInserts within ArchivalUrl, DomainPrefix, and Proxy replay modes. Also includes groundwork for future fine-grained mime-type and url-based Replay customizations.
- Added capability to explicitly set Locale to use for an AccessPoint, overriding the default behavior of using the user agents specified preferred language.
- New flat file implementation of FileLocationDB. See CDXCollection.xml within the .war file for and example usage.
- AnchorDate feature, tracking the date with which a user begins a replay session. During this session, wayback will always attempt to remain near this date, preventing time-drift within a replay session.
- AnchorWindow feature, which allows users to specify a maximum time window in either direction of the AnchorDate that they wish to view replayed content. When a user has set this option, Wayback will not display captures outside the specified window.
- New command line tool location-db to create a location DB offline, populating with lines read from STDIN.
- Added new AccessControlSettingOperation authentication control component, allowing the configuration of the appropriate Exclusion system per-request, as defined by arbitrary BooleanOperators. See ComplexAccessPoint.xml within the .war file for an example usage.
- Added .asx archival URL replay, which rewrites links inside archived .asx files, attempting to make them point back into the Wayback service.
- Now accept "http:/" as identical to "http://" in the beginning of a URL, working around a browser bug which stripped multiple "/"s in URL paths.
- @ Refactoring of ResourceIndex interfaces, to allow for future update-able ResourceIndex implementations beyond BDBIndex based ResourceIndexes.
- Major internal refactoring of WaybackRequest object, providing more stable get/set methods for accessing the standard internal fields with type-safety.
- Major internal refactoring of SearchResults into CaptureSearchResults and UrlSearchResults, which was previously under-specified and often confusing. These new classes provide more stable get/set methods for accessing the standard internal fields with type-safety.
- Changed locations of replay, query, and exception .jsp files within .war file to underneath WEB-INF, so they are not directly accessible via HTTP.
- German translation of default Wayback UI. Thanks Andreas!
- Czech translation of default Wayback UI. Thanks Lukáš MatÄ jka! (

QuickNES 1.1b3

QuickNES 1.1b3

QuickNES is a Nintendo emulator more>>
QuickNES is a Nintendo emulator, very promising !
The emulation is fluid. However, display problems can appear on some nintendo games and you actually cant choose the type of video display.
It runs decently in thousands of colors under Mac OS X on a 700 MHz G4 flat-panel iMac when graphics are set to thousands of colors, and under Mac OS 9 on a 400 MHz PowerMac. Once I learn CoreGraphics or OpenGL, I should be able to double performance on Mac OS X, so for now the requirements are a bit higher than Im intending in the future.
The main highlight is its flexible movie handling, which Ive spent a lot of time developing. I intend on extending this further, particularly for tool-assisted speedrun type uses. Other notable features are numerous adjustments for image and sound parameters with live feedback, mild CPU usage, and the ability to let a movie play in the background while you do other things.
The main limitations are keyboard-only control and no full-screen mode. Both of these are beyond my abilities at the moment, and arent really critical features. I dont even have any USB gamepads nor know what all is required to support them (and remember reading that they arent straight-forward to support, either).
QuickNES lacks some polish and refinement, and Im still working on the emulator core, so dont expect industrial-strength support like Nestopia or similar. Experimentation and research are my main goals, not perfect emulation accuracy or maximum compatibility, though it does pass almost all the rigorous test ROMs Ive released so far. Once I clean the source up a bit more Ill be releasing it under the LGPL, and will happily assist others in adding similar features to their emulators.
Main features:
- Supports games and demos in the iNES (.nes) file format, including those compressed with zip or GNU zip (.gz).
- Game play is always recorded into a movie which can be freely played and re-recorded from any point.
- Named time markers can be added to allow easy return to specific points of interest.
- Instant rewind is always available, allowing you to literally run things backwards to undo a mistake.
- Emulation speed can be reduced for slow-motion playback and recording.
- Television video artifacts are emulated, with several adjustments.
- Sound emulation is crystal-clear and includes adjustable stereo enhancement for headphone listening.
- Per-game customizations like adjustable turbo and screen options are remembered.
Enhancements:
- I found another embarrassing bug: if you have "Keep backup when saving movie" turned off in the preferences, when you save itll delete the movie file from disk, and additionally not even allow you to Save As... elsewhere. Argh! Yet another fix.

Mail Act-On 1.3.2

Mail Act-On 1.3.2

Mail Act-On - Map mail rules/actions to Act-On keys more>>
like to keep my mails inbox well organized: filing and flagging messages in different ways when they come in. However, quickly filing messages in my inbox in a variety of folders can be a drag and drop process or a using a menu that often involves submenus. Setting colors of messages involves bring up the color palette and manually selecting a color.
Mail lacks a simple method of organizing messages based on user-defined keystrokes. As it stands, the only way of doing this is to write a series of AppleScripts that does each task, saving them to Mails applescript folder and naming them so that a control key combination can be used. This is very cumbersome as it takes a knowledge of AppleScript to devise the actions and adding new rules is not a simple process. To fulfill my personal need, I dived into the world of mail plug ins and wrote Mail Act-On to solve all my lifes (er -- email) problems.
Mail Act-On is a plugin Apples Mail (Panther) in that allows you to map specific mail rules or actions to "Act-On" keys. When viewing mail you can apply the "Act-On" action for a message by making simple keystrokes.
Mail Act-On makes use of Mails existing rule engine, so if you have ever created a rules, you already know 99% of what you need to know to build an Act-On action. Imagine, no AppleScripts or other macros. (Even if you havent ever created a mail rule, there is very little learn!)
Enhancements:
- Mail Act-On is now a Universal Plug-in, providing Act-On goodness for Intel based Macs
- Rules that are disabled in Preferences will no longer show in the Act-On Menu.

PathFinderHack 0.1

PathFinderHack 0.1

PathFinderHack - SIMBL plugin that patches Apples Cocoa applications to replace the main document drag button more>>
Problem:
Finder functionality is hard wired into various parts of OS X so better alternatives like PathFinder lack some key integration.

Solution:
Keep running the Finder, or avoid ...

Better Solution:
Try to patch a few instances of the hard wired effect.

PathFinderHack is a SIMBL plugin that patches Apples Cocoa applications to replace the main document drag button. It retargets the open event from the Finder to PathFinder.

The PathFinderHack code is just a compressed bundle. You will need to have SIMBL already installed.

Drop the bundle into /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins. It will work equally well in the user domain ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins. Restart any Cocoa application to try it out.

Learning Cocoa 1.0

Learning Cocoa 1.0

Beginners guide to learning Cocoa programming. more>>
Learning Cocoa was the first tutorial book on Apples Cocoa frameworks to become available (May, 2001). The book is not very well-written or comprehensive, but its mostly accurate and serves as a reasonable jumping-off point for programmers who, like me, are new to Cocoa.

As I was working through the books tutorials, I made a number of changes to extend and rewrite the code - a great way to explore Cocoa. I realize the code could be a lot better in places: the blame is partially Apples, partially mine as a beginner.

Given the current lack of good documentation on Cocoa, having this working code would have been a help to me, and I hope it can be of help to others.

CalTalk 1.1

CalTalk 1.1

CalTalk - Share iCal calendars with Rendezvous/Bonjour more>>
One of the best features of iPhoto and iTunes is their ability to quickly and easily share playlists and photos among computers on a small network without any configuration thanks to Apples Zeroconf/Rendezvous/OpenTalk/Bonjour network auto-configuration technology.
iCal, however, sorely lacks this feature.
CalTalk fills the gap by making it almost as easy to share, browse, and subscribe to iCal calendars as it is iPhoto albums and iTunes playlists. Simply install CalTalk on your computers, check "Share my calendars" to share your own calendars, and double-click the names of other peoples calendars you want to subscribe to.
Enhancements:
- CalTalk shares can now be password protected.
- On Tiger, CalTalk now uses hostnames instead of IP addresses when opening network calendars in iCal. This should make CalTalk work for computers with dynamic IP addresses.

Ulysses 2.0.2

Ulysses 2.0.2

Ulysses is created as a professional and useful text editor, which aims to give creative writers, novelists and storytellers the best writing experience available on any platform today. more>>

Ulysses 2.0.2 is created as a professional and useful text editor, which aims to give creative writers, novelists and storytellers the best writing experience available on any platform today. To achieve that, Ulysses includes an innovative "tabbed" single-window interface, featuring integrated Notepads, a Document Browser, advanced Search&Replace capabilities and multi-document previews.

Additionally, Ulysses sports sophisticated project management with advanced filtering features. This lets the writer focus entirely on content while aiding him in organizing the multiple parts of his work without forcing him into any pre-defined structure whatsoever. Developed exclusively for creative writers, Ulysses lacks both the functional overload of traditional word processors and the developers-oriented approach of classic text editors.

Ulysses was and still is on the forefront of text editing innovation: it set the stage for dedicated creative writing environments, pioneered the inclusion of the famous fullscreen mode (which is now standard with every other writing application on the Mac, see Pages '09), and also incorporates the unique concept of Semantic Text Editing. Using the powerful Tags and Markers, Ulysses removes the hassle of formatting the text and lets the writer concentrate fully on the content of his text.

Text formats and the like are left to the extensible, plug-ins based Exporter. Ulysses enables the user to export his project into a wide variety of formats such as LaTeX, PDF, Word, RTF and Plain Text. Since version 1.6, Ulysses has a little brother: Ulysses Core, which is priced at $35. Although being a lightweight version, it still has an immense list of features from its powerful brother.

Enhancements:

  • Added Spanish Localization (by Victor M. Solano)
  • Added Norwegian Localization (by Tellef Kvifte)
  • Updated all Localizations
  • Ulysses core no longer crashes after startup
  • Fixed style menu and shortcut issues
  • Added new substitution menus now common to Snow Leopard
  • Norm page settings again work correctly during export
  • Fixed issues

Tile iChat windows 1.0

Tile iChat windows 1.0

Tile iChat windows - Tiles windows in iChat more>>
I noticed the distinct lack of a positioning option in iChats Windows menu, so I added one. Throw this script in Library/Scripts in your home directory, and you can select it in the Scripts menu to tile your iChat windows.

tile iChat windows tiles the windows in a square pattern (i.e. rounds up to the next square number above the open message windows, then divides the screen into rows and columns by that square and fills in til it runs out of message windows). This leaves some screen real-estate unfilled, but wont distort your windows into weird sizes.

Fractality 0.6

Fractality 0.6

Fractality is a very tractable and powerful sound tool. more>>

Fractality 0.6 is a very tractable and powerful sound tool. One of the ultimate time-wasting applications, Fractality is a toy and/or tool for creating polygonal fractals. Like geometric fractals, polygonal fractals are repetitive patterns following certain mathematical algorithms. Yet polygonal fractals are simpler, usually more symmetric, and often much more beautiful. They follow repeating patterns of simple algorithmic commands, and are essentially geometric shapes repeating on themselves over and over again.

Fractality is an original tool made to create and manipulate almost every aspect of these fractals. In Fractality, you have easy control over basic controls, like the number of iterations or the size of the fractal, and over precise iterative controls, like the angle of rotation per iteration, or the ability to cut off certain fingers. In addition, for beautification purposes, you have control over the color of the fractal, from beginning to end and even how fast the transition is.

For mathematical study or simple delight in not working, Fractality is the tool to use. The application utilizes easy-to-use controls in manipulating the fractals, and a templates menu for a place to start. Send us a copy of your favorite fractal!

Enhancements:

  • Fractality is undergoing heavy development and is a pre-release state. You can download a public preview of Fractality below or to the right, but be sure you realize this is a beta application and comes with no guarentees. It is offered as-is and we will take no responsibility for anything it may do to your system. Please be sure, however, that we offer only the best intentions and hope you will take advantage to look at this preview and offer your comments and suggestions.
  • Major changes since the last release:
  • Quick color buttons correctly working
  • Drawer toggle commands work on a per-document basis instead of application-wide
  • Drawer controls work on a per-fractal basis instead of application-wide
  • Tooltips are more helpful and say the right things
  • Most memory leaks should be fixed
  • Known Issues:
  • Export to JPEG is vertically inverted
  • Trouble with 1 iteration fractal drawing
  • No dirty window support yet, lacks undo features
  • Some truncating of long floats in precise iteration controls
  • Major Planned features: Export to multiple image formats in ready-set sizes (for easy export to desktop pictures)
  • Speed it up!

Requirements: Mac OS 10.3 or later.
