LabScanner r9d is familiar among lots of users as a helpful data mining expert system for clinical laboratories which identifies, displays and prints temporal patterns in text files of test data exported from clinical laboratory information systems. It supports creation and management of pattern-detection rules by users, displays found patterns in interactive graphs, and allows printing of graphical reports and archiving of interesting patterns.

The program is targeted to therapeutic drug monitoring analyses but can be used with any test that gives a quantitative result. Versions for Macintosh and Windows, documentation, release notes and sample rules and data files are available from the Web site.

UniQRNGenerator 1.0.2

UniQRNGenerator 1.0.2

UniQRNGenerator - A random number generator devoid of repeats more>>
Ever needed a set of random numbers that are unique (no repeats)?
If you did and consulted the Table of Random Numbers in statistic books, you would have been disappointed because TRN carries a good number of repeats.
UniQRNGenerator, as its name implies, is a script that generates unique random numbers. The output is saved under TextEdit for further editing and printing if necessary.
Who may benefit from this script? Science people, especially those who often conduct replicated field and laboratory experiments, should find this script quite useful.
Enhancements:
- Minor revision gets error traps and user-alerts!
- Shows dialog type status report when the process takes time
- Error and user-cancel traps now implemented
- Arbitrary numbers stuffed into the dummy list now changed to empty strings to avoid numeric overlap and subsequent run-time error
- Stack overflow (uncured bug) still occurs but it is now properly trapped and the resulting RN table is still valid and useful.

R for Mac OS X 2.9.1

R for Mac OS X 2.9.1

R for Mac OS X is a product designed for statistical computing and graphics. more>>
R for Mac OS X 2.9.1 is a product designed for statistical computing and graphics. It is a GNU project which is similar to the S language and environment which was developed at Bell Laboratories (formerly AT&T, now Lucent Technologies) by John Chambers and colleagues. R can be considered as a different implementation of S. There are some important differences, but much code written for S runs unaltered under R.

R provides a wide variety of statistical (linear and nonlinear modelling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, ...) and graphical techniques, and is highly extensible. The S language is often the vehicle of choice for research in statistical methodology, and R provides an Open Source route to participation in that activity.

One of Rs strengths is the ease with which well-designed publication-quality plots can be produced, including mathematical symbols and formulae where needed. Great care has been taken over the defaults for the minor design choices in graphics, but the user retains full control.

Enhancements:

  • release notes are available.

Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.4.4 or later, X11 system manager (optional). Gnu g77 compiler and tcltk libraries included with the installer

BRL-CAD is a powerful constructive solid geometry solid modeling system more>>
After 20 years of active development under a proprietary government license agreement, the BRL-CAD solid modeling suite has just been released as Open Source software. BRL-CAD is one of the many legacies of the late Michael Muuss, author of ping. The package began on the PDP-11 and VAX 11/780--before the emergence of ANSI/ISO C language standards--and boasts one of the first parallel Ray tracers in existence. Today BRL-CAD has over 750,000 lines of source code. It incorporates both 3D modeling and rendering capabilities, and supports an API for user-developed geometric analysis applications. It continues to be developed and maintained by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory and its partners. Various portions of the package are distributed under the GPL, LGPL, GFDL, and BSD licenses.

GRASS GIS 6.4rc5

GRASS GIS 6.4rc5

Geographic resources analysis support system. more>>

GRASS GIS 6.4rc5 is stand for Geographic Resources Analysis Support System, which used for data management, image processing, graphics production, spatial modelling, and visualization of many types of data. It is Free (Libre) Software/Open Source released under GNU General Public License (GPL). GRASS is official project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation.
Originally developed by the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratories (USA-CERL, 1982-1995), a branch of the US Army Corp of Engineers, as a tool for land management and environmental planning by the military, GRASS has evolved into a powerful utility with a wide range of applications in many different areas of scientific research. GRASS is currently used in academic and commercial settings around the world, as well as many governmental agencies including NASA, NOAA, USDA, DLR, CSIRO, the National Park Service, the U.S. Census Bureau, USGS, and many environmental consulting companies.
The new GRASS 6 release introduces a new topological 2D/3D vector engine and support for vector network analysis. Attributes are now managed in a SQL-based DBMS. A new display manager has been implemented. The NVIZ visualization tool was enhanced to display 3D vector data and voxel volumes. Messages are partially translated (i18N) with support for FreeType fonts, including multibyte Asian characters. New LOCATIONs can be auto-generated by EPSG code number. GRASS is integrated with GDAL/OGR libraries to support an extensive range of raster and vector formats, including OGC-conformal Simple Features.
The GRASS Development Team has grown into a multi-national team consisting of developers at numerous locations.
In September 2006, the GRASS Project Steering Commitee was formed which is responsible for the overall management of the project. The PSC is especially responsible for granting SVN write access.
Major Features:

  1. GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) is a raster/vector GIS, image processing system, and graphics production system.
  2. GRASS contains over 350 programs and tools to render maps and images on monitor and paper; manipulate raster, vector, and sites data; process multi spectral image data; and create, manage, and store spatial data.
  3. GRASS uses both an intuitive windows interface as well as command line syntax for ease of operations.
  4. GRASS can interface with commercial printers, plotters, digitizers, and databases to develop new data as well as manage existing data.
  5. GRASS supports workgroups through its LOCATION/MAPSET concept which can be set up to share data over NFS (Network File System). Keeping LOCATIONs with their underlying MAPSETs on a central server, a team can simultaneously work in the same project database.
  6. GRASS is released under GNU GPL, the source code (5.x: more than 1 million lines of C; 6.x 500k SLOC) is completely available.
  7. GRASS provides a sophisticated GIS library which can be used for own developments.

Enhancements:

  • New modules
  • Major module changes
  • Minor module changes
  • Library changes
  • Driver changes
  • GUI changes
  • Portability changes
  • Build changes
  • Documentation updates
  • Message translation updates
  • Closed tickets
  • Closed bugs since branching

Berkeley UPC 2.4.0

Berkeley UPC 2.4.0

Berkeley UPC - Portable, high-performance Unified Parallel C compiler more>>
Unified Parallel C (UPC) is an extension of the C programming language designed for high performance computing on large-scale parallel machines. The language provides a uniform programming model for both shared and distributed memory hardware.

The programmer is presented with a single shared, partitioned address space, where variables may be directly read and written by any processor, but each variable is physically associated with a single processor.

UPC uses a Single Program Multiple Data (SPMD) model of computation in which the amount of parallelism is fixed at program startup time, typically with a single thread of execution per processor.

In order to express parallelism, UPC extends ISO C 99 with the following constructs:
* An explicitly parallel execution model
* A shared address space
* Synchronization primitives and a memory consistency model
* Memory management primitives UPC combines the programmability advantages of the shared memory programming paradigm and the control over data layout and performance of the message passing programming paradigm.

Berkeley UPC is a high-performance, portable and fully open-source implementation of the UPC language designed for large-scale multiprocessors, PC clusters, and clusters of shared memory multiprocessors.

Berkeley UPC is the first UPC implementation available for Mac OS X, and delivers competetive performance for supercomputing applications on the largest OS X clusters in the world, yet also provides support for UPC code development on Mac OS X laptops and desktop workstations.
