eeIRC is an open source IRC client with pluggable display / scripting.

Enhancements
- This is an initial source snapshot of the client. It builds over most BSD/Mac/Linux with relatively few changes required.

F-IRC is a free and easy to use IRC client for your Macs Terminal. F-IRC is still work in progress altough it is fairly useable already.

Main features:>
- use ^N to switch to the channel window
- in the channel window: press the cursor key pointing to the right to enter a channel
- press that cursorkey again to view the list of users in that channel
- press that cursorkey again for a menu in which one can ban/kick/etc. a user
- press the cursorkey pointing to the left to leave the names-list
- press that cursorkey to leave the channellist: it stays visible but you can use the cursor keys (again) to edit your message
- press the TAB-key for completion of the command, channel and or nickname
- enter /DCCSEND to send a file with DCC to some other user

IRC is insecure, its a plaintext protocol. Everyone can sniff your connections. In order to fix this problem, many clients and servers have now support for SSL, so your client will connect and the IRC server via a secure SSL connection, and no one between you and your server can read what is passing.
So whats the solution? To have an IRC client that will send encrypted messages over the IRC protocol, using a well known and belived secure block cipher, and a key that only Bob and Alice know.
This is often accomplished thanks to client-specific plugins for xchat, IRSSI, mirc, and other clients, but there are tons of different clients for IRC, and its not always possible to find a compatible encryption plugin between different clients.
Fortunately there is a solution, thats to write an IRC "repeater" or "proxy" that is sit in the middle between the IRC client and the SERVER,

Of course, you also need a secure channel to share an Encrirc key, but to do so you just have to use PGP or GPG and the email.

MiaouIRC is another alternative to an IRC client like mIRC.
First of all, it must be easy to use, intuitive, and very friendly. It is also entirely RFC 1459-compatible. It must graphically customizable, but remains very simple. It is the main reason why the Java/Swing library has been used to the development of the IRC client with Java 2. But the program is still in development and stable.
So, MiaouIRC is multi-platform, because of the Java language capacity.
Main features:
- The possibility for choosing the Look And Feel
- DCC SEND, CHAT and OFFER with a DCC queue monitoring. Very useful for an intensive use on "DCCing" with FServ IRC Bot !
- MiaouIRC is also multi-server
- A logging system is available too, so you can trace all interactions between this program client and the IRC server, log by channel or by private message.
- Multiple configurations management, easy to load from one to another. Configuration saves are only memorized on files, never on registers basis, in a Windows system type.
Enhancements:
- MiaouIRC now support the DCC Whiteboard, originally initiated by the Visual IRC client. It just allow two people to share a whiteboard where they can draw things on it.
- Another way to communicate with drawings other than texts and smileys :).

ShadowIRC is a fast IRC client for the Mac OS. The program is extensible with C-coded plug-ins compiled with CodeWarrior.
This makes ShadowIRC plug-ins faster and more flexible than AppleScript-based scripts, though you will need knowledge of C and a copy of CodeWarrior if you are going to write plug-ins. Among other features, ShadowIRC can process Ircle and mIRC color codes (though not at the same time).
Enhancements:
- Fixed a potential crash when dealing with out-of-range color codes. This could manifest itself as a crash on entering a channel with certain color codes set as the topic.
- Other... item in the font menu to allow choosing font sizes not listed.
- Minor code cleanup.
- Moved more strings into the resource fork now.

jIRCii is a small Java irc client for Windows, Linux, and MacOS X. Features include DCC/CTCP support, Socks Proxy support, multiserver, easy to use scripting interface, IRC over SSL, and over 75 built in commands.
The goal of jIRCii is to provide a powerful GUI client that still has the feel and power of a UNIX console client.
Enhancements:
- Small last minute update to unbreak a potential issue with script debugging. This really only affects scripters. My apologies.
