newslite 1.10 is an innovative UNIX/LINUX command line tool which provides a complete solution to download from newsgroup and decode multipart and monopart yENC and UU encoded files.

There already exist a lot of programs like that. I built this new one to fulfill the following objectives:

  • Resource efficiency in terms of CPU usage and memory so that it could be run on low-end computers
  • Build "title list", in order to ease group content analysis
  • Robustness to news server connection loss

At this point in time, newslite only supports yEnc and UU encoded binaries, the most widely used format for binary posting. Any attempt to download any other kind of encoded files will fail.

Major Features:

  1. Threads XOVER command for faster group message header retrieval
  2. Threads file download for faster download
  3. Builds full list of groups hosted by the server
  4. Resumes download session in case of connection loss program interruption
  5. Makes use of configuration file to simplify user command interface
  6. Builds "title" and "file" lists from article headers for quicker group content analysis
  7. Decodes yEnc and UU multi and mono-part encoded files
  8. Supports news server authentication
  9. Supports NZB file processing
  10. Allows connection to news server through any TCP port (i.e. not only using NNTP 119)

Requirements: Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

PlayStoreCD - Applescript to play songs in ITMS continually more>>
PlayStoreCD will allow you to listen to the thirty second previews in the iTunes Music Store without interruption. In its current incarnation, it is an app that you run while you are in the iTMS, if you are in your library it will make you play a song. If you are in the iTMS it will play through the songs you are looking at in order and repeat.

Much work is needed on this. It will soon be an applescript studio app with different settings, but for now test this. If the idea is good enough then suggest improvements.

openQRM 4.4

openQRM 4.4

Open source systems management platform which integrates with existing components in enterprise data centers more>>
openQRM 4.4 provides you with a professional open source systems management platform which integrates with existing components in enterprise data centers. openQRM is derived from a proven commercial product and distributed under a modified Mozilla Public License.

openQRM is the next generation, open-source Data-center management platform. Its fully pluggable architecture focuses on automatic, rapid- and appliance-based deployment, monitoring and high-availability and especially on supporting and conforming multiple virtualization technologies. openQRM is a single-management console for the complete IT-infra structure and will provide a well defined API which can be used to easily integrate third-party tools as additional plugins.
Notes:

  • For further installation instruction openQRM is licensed and released under the Mozilla Public License 1.1 (MPL 1.1).

Major Features:

  1. Complete separation of "hardware" (physical servers and virtual machines) from "software" (server-images): With openQRM hardware is just used as "computing resource" which can be replaced easily without the need to adapt or reconfigure the server (-image) at all.
  2. Support for different virtualization technologies: In 4.1 just added KVM to the supported virtualization technologies so now VMware, Xen, KVM and Linux-VServer vms can be managed transparently via openQRM. openQRM seamlessly support P2V (physical to virtual), V2P (virtual to physical) AND V2V (virtual to virtual) migration. This mean server appliances can not only move from physical to virtual (and back) easily but also that they can be migrated from virtualization technology A to virtualization technology B without any hassle.
  3. Fully automatic Nagios configuration (single click) to monitor all systems and services: Nagios is known to be a great system and service monitoring tool .... but it's quite difficult to configure it. In openQRM 4.1 we just developed a completely automatic configuration of Nagios via "nmap2nagios-ng" which maps the entire openQRM-network and creates (or updates) the Nagios config for it (all systems, all available services).
  4. High-availability : "N to 1" fail-over:
    • You can have e.g. 10 custom HA-servers which normally would need another 10 custom stand-by systems. With openQRM you can make them all just use 1 (or more) stand-by systems
    • You can just save ALL your stand-by servers and just bring up a virtual-machine as stand-by. In case of problems HA-appliances will then fail-over from physical to virtual. You can also fail-over from virtualization technology A to technology B (e.g. from KVM to VMware vm's)
  5. Ready-made-server-images via the image-shelf plugin:
    • To get started quick and easy openQRM 4.1 now provides ready-made and known-to-work server-images for Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS and openSuse. Therefore an image-shelf plugin was added which allows the systemadministrator to fetch servers easily via the web-interface. Public or custom image-shelf servers can be used, meaning you can either fetch server-images from the public image-shelf server or provide
    • your own image-shelf server with custom images.
  6. Integrated storage management:
    • openQRM will create 10 snapshots of an existing, known-to-work server-image and deploy those clones to the resources. Takes a second ...
    • Another benefit of this concept is that there is a single place for backup/restore, there were it should be, on the storage-server itself so you can use its cloning/snap-shot features again to create hot-backups from your servers without service interruption.
    • openQRM 4.1 supports the following storage-server types :
      • NFS
      • Iscsi
      • Aoe/Coraid
      • NetApp
      • Local-disk (transferring server-images to the local-disk)
      • LVM-Nfs (NFS on top of LVM2 to allow fast-cloning)
      • LVM-Iscsi (Iscsi on top of LVM2 to allow fast-cloning)
      • LVM-Aoe (Aoe on top of LVM2 to allow fast-cloning)
  7. Support for all kinds of different deployment types:
    • Deployment in openQRM is completely transparent and plug-able. In detail this means the step of "mounting the rootfs" plug-able was made so you can basically boot-up from any storage-device you want by adding a small plugin for it e.g. one could write a "gmailfs-storage" plugin which takes care to mount a servers root-filessystem via gmailfs, just because it can be done ;)
    • Another advantage of openQRM is that it then can transform server-images from type A to type B e.g. you can deploy an appliance which will get a pre-defined server-image from an nfs-server and dumps this to itsl ocal-disk, then it will just continue boot-up from its local-disk. You can also grab an image from a local disk and e.g. transfer it to an Iscsi-Lun and so on ....
    • Since the deployment is so generic in openQRM 4.x
  8. Distribution support: openQRM 4.x comes with a solid support for different linux distribution like Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS and openSuse. A single openQRM server can manage the provisioning of servers from those different linux distributions seamlessly.
  9. There are some more cool features in openQRM 4.x e.g. its small, its easy to install, it is very developer friendly, its fast to build, it has an integrated packaging systems to build rpms and/or deb packages, support for multiple database types e.g. Mysql, Oracle, DB2 and Postgres .... and so on.

TTMath 0.8.4

TTMath 0.8.4

A bignum library written in the C++ programming language more>>
TTMath 0.8.4 is a useful software which functions as a bignum library written in the C++ programming language. TTMath provides standard mathematical operations like add, sub, mul, div, pow etc. with the big integer and big floating point numbers.

Enhancements:

  • Fixed: UInt:DivInt() didn't check whether the divisor is zero
  • There was a hardware interruption when the divisor was zero(now the method returns one)
  • Fixed: the problem with GCC optimization on x86_64
  • Sometimes when using -O2 or -O3 GCC doesn't set correctly
  • The stack pointer (actually the stack is used for other things)
  • And you cant use instructions like push/pop in assembler code.
  • All the asm code in x86_64 have been rewritten, now instructions push/pop are not used, other thing which have access to stack (like "m" (mask) constraints in Rcl2 and Rcr2) have also gone away,
  • Now the library works well with -O2 and -O3 and the asm code
  • Is a little faster
  • Added: UInt:PrintLog(const char * msg, std:ostream & output) used (for debugging purposes) by macro TTMATH_LOG(msg)
  • (it is used in nearly all methods in UInt class)
  • Added: macro TTMATH_DEBUG_LOG: when defined then TTMATH_LOG() put some debug information (to std:cout)
  • Added: ttmathuint_x86.h, ttmathuint_x86_64.h, ttmathuint_noasm.h,
  • All the methods which are using assembler code have been rewritten to no-asm forms

MacSpice 3f5 2.10.14

MacSpice 3f5 2.10.14

Spice-compatible simulator for Mac OS X more>> Spice-compatible simulator for Mac OS X

As its name suggests, MacSpice is an implementation for the Mac of the Berkeley Spice 3f5 electronic circuit simulator.
However, MacSpice is not merely a port of the Berkeley code, it incorporates many improvements ranging from bug-fixes to entirely new graphics, algorithms and solution strategies.
Spice is not easy to use, but it is a powerful tool once the initial hurdles have been overcome and the MacSpice website provides support and tutorials.
SPICE is a general-purpose circuit simulation program for nonlinear dc, nonlinear transient, and linear ac analyses.
Circuit simulation is a way of building and testing virtual models of electronic devices. It is usually cheaper and quicker to simulate a design than to build a prototype. MacSpice, like most circuit simulators, requires a text-file description of the circuit as input.
This netlist is a list of components and the nodes they connect to. Users may prepare netlists with a text editor, or derive them from a circuit diagram using a third-party schematic-capture application. MacSpice then builds a numerical model of the circuit and analyses this.
A command interpreter (shell) is used to specify the types of analyses that are required and how the results should be processed, saved or displayed. The high quality of the MacSpice command interpreter makes the automation of tasks straightforward.
Simulation is a tool, not a magic-wand. The quality of the results depends on the accuracy of the netlist and the device models use. Within Spice most devices are ideal its resistor, for example, has just one property: resistance.
A real resistor has parasitic inductance and capacitance; if these have a significant influence on the circuit, they must be added explicitly to the netlist.

System requirements:
-

Enhancements:
- Graph cursors behave better.
- AC Sensitivity analysis now positions grid points accurately and can resume after interruption.
- Improved pole/zero analysis - negligible complex components are rounded to zero.
- Vectors use memory more efficiently.
- Better frontend performance when large numbers of vectors are in existence.
- The big_endian/little_endian flag is now implemented for rawfiles written in batch mode.
- Case-insensitive string comparisons are performed faster.
- A warning is now issued when breakpoints are being ignored, e.g. because pulse rise-times are shorter than the value of MINBREAK.
- var_free() and ctl_free() procedures re-coded to avoid potential stack overflow in extreme cases.
- Improved display of mutual inductance parameters by show.
- Improved numerical stability of interpolate() frontend function.
- Improved rusage statistics for interrupted transient simulations.
- Improved default behaviour of xd and alpha parameters for MOS3 devices.
- shift no longer causes a crash when it is given invalid arguments.
- goto $foo when $foo has no value no longer crashes.
- Cured potential history list corruption when set history = 0 is used.
Cured some minor memory leaks occurring during:
- conversion of circuit parameters to vectors;
- destruction of parse nodes referring to user-defined functions;
- tokenization of models with zero-length parameters.
- AC sensitivity analysis now works with non-linear devices.
- Correct evaluation of lists containing empty lists.
- Variables numdgt and rawprec now unset at the first attempt.

pearPlay 0.1

pearPlay 0.1

pearPlay - widget previews multiple songs without interruption from iTunes store more>>
Ever wondered why you simply just cant listen to album previews on the iTunes Music Store in one continuous flow? Why after each track you need to click that play-button again?

Well, stop wondering. pearPlay lets you easily discover new music on the Music Store without interruption.
All you need to do is have pearPlay running on your Dashboard and it will magically switch to the next track just before the current preview ends. Listen to todays top-songs, the latest album from your favorite artist, the celebrity playlist of the person youve never heard of... its never been this easy to discover new music. And best of all, pearPlay only cares for Music Store previews, so you can still listen to your library tracks in full length - no special action required.

How does it work? Well, its pretty simple.
When you listen to a song-preview in iTunes and you switch to the next track during playback, the new preview will start to play immediately. However, if you wait for the preview to finish, iTunes will stop playback.
Now, everything pearPlay does is to make sure that iTunes is switched to the next track just before the preview ends, and thus keeps iTunes in playback-mode. You can adjust the preview length to anything you would like, but keep in mind that anything over 30 seconds will cause iTunes to stop before pearPlay gets a chance to switch to the next track. Good values for preview length are for example at around 28-29 seconds (with the standard 30 seconds previews).

Note that you need to be logged into your iTunes account to prevent the iTunes login-popup from appearing after every 10 songs or so, as this will also stop playback. You should also have the option for downloading whole song previews before playback begins disabled.

pearPlay is provided as Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel systems.

Ogg Vorbis r45

Ogg Vorbis r45

Ogg Vorbis - Allows you to play Ogg Vorbis music with iTunes more>>
Ogg Vorbis is a iTunes 4 compatable Ogg Vorbis decoder plugin for Quicktime 6.2 or later under Mac OS X 10.2 or later.
This will allow you to play Ogg Vorbis music with iTunes.
Enhancements:
- Metadata. Now uses a (potentially) user-configurable property-list file (MetaDataConfig.plist). Seems to work in QT Player. iTunes ignores some of the tags, such as track number, or the title (!!), but at least it uses album and artist names. (Whats interesting, iTunes doesnt seem to use title metadata at all for more QT imported file formats than just Ogg/Vorbis! Try adding some trailer from official Apple trailers page to your iTunes library. So, It does appear to be iTunes problem/feature.)
- Seeking, pausing, skipping. Some fixes regarding interruptions, dropped pages and seeking in general. There are, sometimes, audible artifacts on the boundaries of the non-consecutive packets, which is to be expected. However, it doesnt happen with the mp3 files... Or does it? Well, at least seeking now doesnt stop playback, as could happen with the previous version.
- Fixed some small bugs and memory leaks.
- Streaming. I did try. ;) In QuickTime Player, the component will usually download ogg pages, and put them into QT tracks, but if the file size is unspecified (as is the case with streaming) it will not play anyway. Importer works properly, and decoder is being set-up, but then QT Player just doesnt ask for decoded samples. And you usually cant even save the stream. If you manage to save, though, you can play the file. If the file contains multiple (chained) logical ogg/vorbis streams - the component, at the moment, inserts them all at time 0. So you can save time listening to all the tracks at once. :D Well, this is one of the many things to work on...
- Streaming in iTunes. Still doesnt work. It doesnt try to use the codec, at all. Just displays the stream as mpeg audio and apparently fails do decode it as such.
- In my experience, iTunes always imports ogg files synchronously, and sometimes does it multiple times per one file (!?). This means there will be slight delay before playback of each file, while iTunes imports the file. I suppose it may mean an even less slight delay on a non-local storage media. Well...
- Equaliser and visualisation in iTunes. Im not sure its not only me, but none of the non-iTunes formats (so, all the external QT-imported file formats) seems to work with equaliser nor visualisation in iTunes on my machine. On the other hand, QT Player has no problems with displaying real-time (well, slightly less real while importing) frequency levels during playback...
