Sometimes we miss events because iCal does not have a preference for default alarms on events. The iCalAlarmSetter script visits all writeable iCal calendars searching for future events that do not have alarms.

For each such event found, it prompts the user to select a trigger interval (or none) for a new sound alarm to be attached to the event.

iCalAid is an example of a rapidly prototyped tool to fulfill a specific task using AppleScript Studio. The problem is the lack of scripting support in Word + Entourage Special Edition, which make easy transfer of calendar events from Entourage to iCal difficult.
Also, the lack of recurring tasks in iCal, forces many tasks in Entourage to be entered as calendar events. iCal provides an easy to manipulate interface to float its window above Entourage 2001 running in Classic and a task and/or calendar list can be read and entered. The resulting information is sent to iCal.
Enhancements:
- New command under file menu will reopen application window if it gets inadvertently closed.
- Services Menu added which now contains the commands that will obtain information about a web page or file to be associated with an event or task.
Also included under Services are the following commands:
- Diary Entry - a note taking device which allows one to add entries to iCal calendars which are not necessarily events or tasks. any calendar can be selected.
- Get iTunes Track Info - Inserts information about the currently playing iTunes track into the event window.
- Insert Temperature - Inserts the current temperature for a zip code into an event.
- Insert Stock Quote - Allows the insertion of delayed stock quotes into iCal calendars.
- A refresh button allows the reloading of editable calendars if one is created or deleted in iCal while iCalAid is running.
- Start Times and End Times now utilize 24-hour times to allow International usage.

iCal Backup AppleScript 1.0 is an effective and user-friendly tool that allows for the creation of a backup file by selecting File > Back up iCal. You can later restore iCal by double-clicking the backup file. Restoring iCal from a backup works great as long as you have a recent backup. But that's rarely the case.

You could configure iCal to create backups automatically with a little help from AppleScript. This script will backup iCal when run. You can create alarms in iCal to run scripts. To configure iCal to back itself up every day, create a repeating alarm in iCal that runs this script.

Apple doesnt document the API for interfacing with iCal, but it does save its files as industry standard iCalendar files. I went looking recently for a python module to interface with iCal, and couldnt find one.

But I DID find Rod Schmidts excellent article for doing the same thing with Ruby. So, naturally, I ported his solution to Python! It seems to even work!

iCal via Entourage 2.1 is a program to inform you of emails for events (great for sending reminders to your cellphone!). The only problem is that it forces you to use Apple's Mail application. This installer will update iCal so that it will use Entourage instead of Mail for e-mailing notifications.
