MacHTTP is an opensource Macintosh HTTP server for both PPC and 68K Macs.

The new version now includes user-defined actions (allowing multiple URLS to be mapped to a specific CGI), folder aliases, Thread Manager support, performance tuning parameters, Windows virus rejection, and other improvements.

Give Httping an url, and Httping will show you how long it takes to connect, send a request and retrieve the reply (only the headers).
Be aware though that the transmission across the network will also take time!

ruby-httpclient is a free and slightly higher level interface on top of Net::HTTP, similar to Perls LWP::UserAgent.

Does some higher level handshaking, like supporting ntlm authentication, and simpler stuff like handling redirects. Also reuses connection as much as possible.

This application allows you to scan one host at a time, a comma separated list of hosts or a whole subnet (subnets can be a little slow, but when scanning 254 hosts, you have to expect that).

The application also allows you to save the results in two different file formats. The first is a raw (plain text) format that can be used more easily by other software and scripts for automated analysis. The second format is a styled, valid xhtml report for a more formal and human readable report.
