HELIOS File System Test UB is a potential and easy to use tool which can test file server compatibility.
Every Macintosh user or system administrator can easily verify in a quick and reliable way if their file server is fully compatible with Mac OS X clients. The HELIOS File System Test can examine AFP, NFS, SMB/CIFS, and WebDAV network connections. The 11 tests check for the support of file sizes exceeding 4 GB, long file names, UTF-8 compatibility, correct file access rights, as well as the consistent use of file/directory IDs. If a server fails any tests, a detailed error message explains the issues.

It also recovers data on disks, even if their partitions are formatted, damaged or deleted. Additional file recovery algorithm increases the quality of file recovery and recovers files not recognized in file system metadata. Dynamic disk and RAID are supported as well as recovering data forks, resource forks, finder information and UNIX file system permissions, encrypted files, compressed files and alternative data streams.
Files and file systems structures (HFS/HFS+ data forks, resource forks, NTFS/FAT boot sectors, MFT file record, MBR, LDM structures, etc) can be viewed and edited in the professional disk hex editor. Flexible parameter settings give you absolute control over data recovery.
Major Features:
- Standard Windows Explorer - style interface.
- Host OS: Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, XP, 2003 Server, Vista, 2008 Server, Windows 7.

- Damaged RAID recovery. If the OS cannot recognize your RAID, you can create a virtual RAID from its components. Such virtual RAID can be processed like a real one.
- Creates IMAGE FILES for an entire Hard Disk, Partition or its part. Such image files can be compressed and split into several files to put it on CD/DVD/flash or FAT16/FAT32/exFAT. Then the image files can be processed like regular disks.

WebDriver 0.6
A free developer focused tool for automated testing of web apps more>> TypeShuffler is a drag and drop utility that allows you to change the creator code, file type, and file extension of files. It also provides you with a configurable database of creator codes so that you can quickly change files to your preferred codes, types, and extensions.
Background
The Mac OS uses three pieces of type information to display the proper icon for a file and to know which application to open if a file is double clicked on. This type information consists of the creator code, file type, and file extension. Changing this information allows you to change the icon and double click behavior of a file. For example, you could change the creator code of a picture file so that its opened by Preview instead of AppleWorks.
Each file in the Mac OS file system has two four-character codes associated with it. One is the creator code which identifies the application, utility, or other system entity which created the file. The second is the file type which is the actual type of the file, such as TEXT for text files and PICT for picture files. Additionally, some files may have an optional file extension at the end of the file name. These filename extensions consist of a period followed by one or more characters. However, filename extensions may not be visible depending upon your Finder preferences.
Be careful! Changing type information can obviously lead to some problems if you change files to inappropriate types. For example, if you were to change a text file into a picture file, any application trying to open this "picture" file may crash because it would clearly be an invalid picture.<<less

CheckMate 1.0 Beta3
Generate and compare secure MD5 checksums of critical files more>>
Checkmate is a preference pane for MacOS X 10.1 or higher that allows you to generate and compare secure MD5 checksums of critical files. This can be used to detect whether these files have been altered by viruses, root kits, trojan horses, or other possibly malicious programs.
NOTE: The choice of files that are checked by default was derived by examining a number of other file system checksumming (or tripwire-type) systems on other UNIX-like platforms. If you believe that there are other OSX-specific files that should get checked for malicious alteration, please send me your suggestions for possible inclusion.
Major Features:
- Checksum validation can be run manually from inside the preference pane, and/or scheduled to run hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or each time you restart.
- If the validation process finds any files whose checksums don't match the values stored, several notification options can be triggered, including a popup dialog and email.
- In addition to the default list of files that are included for validation, you can easily add and remove additional files that you wish to validate.
- You can also export the list of file checksums to a file to be stored somewhere other than the computer it was made on (such as on your iDisk).
- You can then later load this externally-stored file back into the preferences panel to verify that the checksum
