folding@home 6.24.1 has come as a smart allocated calculating tool which is designed to help you learn how proteins self-assemble ("protein folding"), a holy grail of modern molecular biophysics. What makes it such a great challenge is its complexity, which renders simulations of folding extremely computationally demanding and difficult to understand.

A new way has come to simulate protein folding ("distributed dynamics") which should remove the previous barriers to simulating protein folding. However, this method is extremely computationally demanding. This distributed dynamics technique can fold small protein fragments and protein-like synthetic polymers.

What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease? Proteins are biologys workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.

Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimers, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntingtons, Parkinsons disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

You can help by simply running a piece of software. Folding@Home is a distributed computing project -- people from through out the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer makes the project closer to our goals.

Folding@Home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems thousands to millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.

Folding@home MOX 0.2b1 is designed to be an easy to use program which helps with monitoring GUI for the client of Folding@home for Mac OS X. Since there is no official GUI available at the moment for Mac OS X, you can use MOX.

Major Features:

1. It will show your current project and its progress;
2. It will show the project descriptions;
3. If you've installed Growl, MOX will notify you when you're a step closer to completion;
4. Start, pause and stop Folding@home;
5. View a (simple!) schematic display of what you're folding (something like Jmol, but minimalistic);
6. Configure the client within MOX;
7. Add clients over the network; etc...

Installations:

• Download MOX;
• Open the dmg file and drag-and-drop "MOX.app" to your applications folder;
• Run MOX.app - if the Folding@home client isn't installed, MOX can do it for you.
