Google Web Toolkit 1.6.4
An open source Java software development framework for writing AJAX applications more>> An open source Java software development framework for writing AJAX applications
Google Web Toolkit (GWT) is an open source Java software development framework that makes writing AJAX applications like Google Maps and Gmail easy for developers who dont speak browser quirks as a second language.
Writing dynamic web applications today is a tedious and error-prone process; you spend 90% of your time working around subtle incompatibilities between web browsers and platforms, and JavaScripts lack of modularity makes sharing, testing, and reusing AJAX components difficult and fragile.
GWT helps you avoid many of these headaches while offering your users the same dynamic, standards-compliant experience. You write your front end in the Java programming language, and the GWT compiler converts your Java classes to browser-compliant JavaScript and HTML.
Main features:
- Create a Widget by compositing other Widgets. Lay out Widgets automatically in Panels. Send your Widget to other developers in a JAR file.
- To communicate from your web application to your web server, you just need to define serializable Java classes for your request and response. In production, GWT automatically serializes the request and deserializes the response from the server. GWTs RPC mechanism can even handle polymorphic class hierarchies, and you can throw exceptions across the wire.
- No, AJAX applications dont need to break the browsers back button. GWT lets you make your site more usable by easily adding state to the browsers back button history.
- In production, your code is compiled to JavaScript, but at development time it runs in the Java virtual machine. That means when your code performs an action like handling a mouse event, you get full-featured Java debugging, with exceptions and the advanced debugging features of IDEs like Eclipse.
- Your GWT applications automatically support IE, Firefox, Mozilla, Safari, and Opera with no browser detection or special-casing within your code in most cases.
- GWTs direct integration with JUnit lets you unit test both in a debugger and in a browser...and you can even unit test asynchronous RPCs.
- Easily create efficient internationalized applications and libraries.
- If GWTs class library doesnt meet your needs, you can mix handwritten JavaScript in your Java source code using our JavaScript Native Interface (JSNI).
- We are in the process of building support for using Google APIs in GWT applications. Initially, we are providing support for Google Gears, the recently-launched developer product that extends the browser to allow developers to make web-based applications function even while offline. If you would like to download this library please visit the open source project. We are planning to add support for other Google APIs; if youd like to help, please check out Making GWT Better.
- All of the code for GWT is available under the Apache 2.0 license. If you are interested in contributing, please visit Making GWT Better.
Enhancements
Fixed Issues:
- The classpath in the scripts created by junitCreator was updated to refer to /war/WEB-INF/classes rather than /bin.
Oblique Widget 1.1
Oblique Widget - a good time to brush up on your knowledge more>>
The time it takes to Auto-Flipback can be set in the preferences (anywhere between 3 and 30 seconds, in six steps), but can be interrupted at any time by simply clicking on the back face.
When you mouse over the Widget, a small "i" icon will appear in the lower right corner. Click on this to access the Preference Panel. This allows you to choose any of four Editions of the Strategies with a pull-down menu.
A second pulldown-menu gives you the option to change the time it takes to flip back the cards (more about this Auto-Flipback feature below... Click on the "Done" button to flip the Preference Panel over to the front side.
Your preferences will be remembered for the next time, persistent through Dashboard activation, Widget removals or System restarts. Initially - upon first run - the Fourth Edition is set as the default deck to use.
This Edition is best for general creative use. The other Editions (1, 2 & 3) are more geared towards musicians and painters. The Auto-Flipback time is initially set to 3 seconds.
Car Companion 1.3.2
Car Companion - Track your vehicle maintenance schedule more>>
Car Companion is a Java based application that I began working on in July 2003. I wanted a tool to help me keep track of the maintenance that I do on my Jeep. I could not find anything out there that fit my needs, so I decided to write my own. This little program allows me to keep track of all my maintenance and print out reports and a sticker to keep in my glove box, so that I know when I need to perform the next oil change, replace the air filter, change the brakes, etc.
It is a free open source application. All of the source is available in a separate jar file that you can download. You can check out my project page at sourceforge.
I chose Java so that it could be run on any operating system: Mac, Unix, Linux, or Windows. The data is stored in a xml file so that it can be easily transferred to any database or xml supported program.
Enhancements:
- Fixed the cost conversion bug. It now sorts the services entered by date, so the newest always shows last.
Delocalizer 1.1
Delocalizer - Remove all non-American English localization resource files more>>
DeLocalizer will remove all non-American English localization resource files that you request. This application is geared towards American English users, as it will not remove localization resources for American English. Users that use other languages may still use DeLocalizer to remove languages that they do not use (except, of course, American English).
Localization files provide the language support for an application. All strings of text that an application uses are defined in a localization file. Mac OS X also includes non-English localization files for people who speak other languages. While this is a wonderful technique for easily bringing applications to other languages, it can use up more space than you may be willing if you plan on using no more than one language. While Mac OS 10.1 allows the option to not install localization files, some inevitably exist on your drive.
Using DeLocalizer
DeLocalizer requires Mac OS 10.1.2 or later with the BSD subsystem installed. You may choose to remove resources from your startup disk only or all volumes currently mounted on your system (probably wont work for network volumes). If you would like to examine the Unix command that is to be executed, you may paste it into a text editor when you are prompted for your administrator password (that is when DeLocalizer copies it to the clipboard). The removal process takes about 15 minutes for the startup disk alone, so please be patient. Force-quitting the application will not kill the process that is removing the files (the name of that process is "find"). When the process is complete, a dialog box will tell you how much space you saved (reports on the startup disk only, sorry).
Delocalizer has not been tested on Mac OS 10.3. At this time I do not have plans to continue development on DeLocalizer.
Enhancements:
- Updated for Jaguar compatibility.

iDXCluster 1.1.0
iDXCluster - DX Cluster for SWLs and other DXers more>>
A DX Cluster is a way for DXers to share tips on what stations they are currently hearing. Stale DX news is useless, so a DX Cluster allows people to share their loggings within seconds.

You can submit your own loggings as well of course. You can also filter the types of loggings you want to see, so you dont have to see stations that you have no interest in.Clicking on a logging line will bring up a window with some more detailed logging information, and eliminates the need to horizontally scroll to see the comments/etc on the right side.
