The Levelator 1.1.0
The Levelator adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file more>>
Its not a compressor, normalizer or limiter although it contains all three. Its much more than those tools, and its much simpler to use.
The UI is dirt-simple: Drag-and-drop any WAV or AIFF file onto The Levelers application window, and a few moments later youll find a new version which just sounds better.
Have you ever recorded an interview in which you and your guest ended up at different volumes? How about a panel discussion where some people were close to microphones and others were not?
These are the problems the post-production engineers of Team ITC solve every day, and it used to sometimes take them hours of painstaking work with expensive and complex tools like SoundTrack Pro, Audacity, Sound Forge or Audition to solve them. Now it takes mere seconds. Seriously. The Levelator is unlike any other audio tool youve ever seen, heard or used. Its magic. And its free.
When we developed the IT Conversations component-based show-assembly system (the first generation of GigaVox Audio Lite, see below), we realized all the components had to be of the same loudness or the results would sound awful. We limped along for many months using the RMS normalization functions in various applications, but the results werent satisfactory and it required tools and skillsets that some of our post-production audio engineers didnt have.
One of our best engineers, Bruce Sharpe, offered to write a standalone software RMS normalization utility, which weve been using as part of our production system GVUploader for nearly a year.
The GVUploaders normalizer acts similar to an intelligent RMS-based compressor/limiter combination, and it therefore affects primarily the short-term (transient) sounds and the long-term overall loudness of the file. It doesnt make the kind of adjustments that a skilled audio engineer can perform in software or at a mixing console, riding the levels up and down to compensate for medium-term variations.
There are some hardware devices such as various AGC (automatic-gain control) components that can do moderate leveling, but since they have to operate in real time (i.e., without look-ahead), they cant do much. And they arent cheap, let alone free.
Even a skilled human can only react to changes unless s/he is lucky enough to be present during a recording session and can use visual cues to anticipate coming variations. Software can do better by performing multiple passes over the audio, generating a loudness map of where the volume changes. (Its not actually that simple, but the metaphor can help.)

policyd-weight 0.1.14 Beta 17
Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA intended to eliminate forged envelope senders and HELOs more>> Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA intended to eliminate forged envelope senders and HELOs
policyd-weight allows you to score DNSBLs (RBL/RHSBL), HELO, MAIL FROM and client IP addresses before any queuing is done. It allows you to REJECT messages which have a score higher than allowed, providing improved blocking of spam and virus mails. policyd-weight caches the most frequent client/sender combinations (SPAM as well as HAM) to reduce the number of DNS queries.
After the first three SMTP commands (HELO, MAIL FROM: and RCPT TO:) the clients IP address, corresponding DNS records (A, MX and PTR) and multiple DNSBLs can be checked, verified and scored. If the client tries to forge headers or supplies non-existent DNS or bogus data the spam score will increase, even more so if the client is listed in one or more DNSBLs.
Such mails can be rejected while in transfer, before the mail body is received by your MTA. This is different from SpamAssassin or amavisd-new: for filtering or scoring with these programs, mail needs to be accepted/queued, CPU-time is wasted, bandwidth is used, and mail cannot be rejected without creating a bounce.
Postfix built-in checks can be too tough for poorly configured clients: one hit, and the mail gets rejected. policyd-weight is designed to be fair (DynDNS MX users get through if their MTA is setup properly, even if their ISP net is DUL-listed), because its decision whether to reject or accept a mail is based on multiple factors.
Of course you should still have SpamAssassin and Clamav running (especially if you are responsible for a companys security and data). But these programs will have a lot less to do and thus decrease the need for bandwidth and CPU cycles.
Also you might not need greylisting (which would make sense for users that receive a lot of new spam, though), SPF, extraordinary whitelists or SQL and other DBs anymore.
Main features:>
- Scored evaluation of RBL/RHSBL results
- Scored evaluation of DNS relationships and correctness of HELO and MAIL FROM arguments (MX, A, subdomains) in respect to Client DNS records (PTR, A, subnets) - weighted by RBL scores. It tries as best as possible to find a DNS wise verified relationship between (Client IP, Hostname) and (HELO or FROM), this travells down to subdomains and subnets
- SPAM Cache for "user@senderdomain.tld-123.123.123.123" hashes (precedence of HAM cache)
- HAM Cache for "senderdomain.tld-123.123.123.123" hashes
- Multirecipient aware
- May be used for "all but some specific user" or "only for specific user" via postfix restriction classes. The same goes for clients.
- Own RBL Lookup routine for very fast and cheap DNS RBL/RHSBL lookups
- Configuration file for own adjustments
- Absolutely no database dependencies. No MySQL either ;-)!
- Fast, optimized perl - designed for large scale environments
- In contrast to postfix reject_rbl_client, reject_rhsbl_client, reject_unknown_* and reject_non_fqdn_helo, one hit must not mean that the client will be rejected
- Bandwidth savings: You are able to reject based on "weights" before the DATA content will be received
- CPU savings: Postfix and after queue content filter have less to do as they operate on full content; policyd-weight doesnt - as it fires in very early at RCPT TO stage
- Other resource savings: queue resources, disc access resources, quarantine space
Enhancements:
- Using File::Spec->canonpath for normalization (trailing slashes): Check ownership of real directories to avoid race attacks for symlinks.

Stainless 0.75 is a multi-process browser for OS X Leopard that stands out above the crowd among all the many browsers out there. Although Stainless started out as a technology demo to showcase multi-processing architecture in response to Google Chrome, we've been inspired by growing fanbase to forge ahead and craft Stainless into a full-fledged browser. In fact, Stainless now has features you won't find in Chrome or in any other browser.
A prime example is parallel sessions, which allow you to log into a site using different credentials in separate tabs at the same time. This new technology is woven throughout Stainless, from the private cookie storage system, to session-aware bookmarks that remember the session in which they were saved.
Please note that Stainless is still in development and doesn't yet have all the features you'd find in a production-ready browser. As the publisher work towards a 1.0 release, you can check out what's new in every update by clicking the version link under the Download button.
Enhancements:
- Added: url and search autocompletion
- Added: new theme-capable UI (API available in future version)
- Added: new tab and security preferences
- Fixed: nested group contextual menus don't work
- Fixed: create groups from open tabs fails when no tabs are open
- Fixed: switching to empty tab group doesn't update bookmarks
