FireWire 2.5 is a component of the Mac OS. The FireWire 2.5 software includes three system extensions:FireWire Support. This extension adds services to the Mac OS to support the use of FireWire hardware andsoftware.FireWire Enabler. This extension adds hardware-specific support for certain FireWire interfaces.FireWire CardBus Enabler.

Installer contains a version 1.06 driver update for the MOTU 828, 896 and 828mk2.
The install for the 828mk2 also provides the MIDI Drivers, Firewire Cuemix Console, and the Firewire SMPTE Console.

FireWire is an Apple trademark for the IEEE 1394 High Performance Serial Bus standard, a cross-platform standard for connecting and using digital peripheral devices. FireWire may be used with many multimedia devices and for other high-performance applications. FireWire’s benefits include fast real-time transfer, plug-and-play, hot swapping, a higher-speed growth path, and easy-to-use cables and connectors.

FireWire products currently available from third parties include digital video cameras and digital video decks, printers, scanners, still image cameras, mass storage devices, and PCI cards that can connect these devices to a computer. These products can be used to capture digital still images and to perform non-linear editing of digital video, including the creation of new digital media content.

In addition to digital video applications, consumer and professional FireWire products available in the near future may include synthesizers, digital TVs, entertainment systems, set-top boxes, and other devices.

Note: If you do not already have an Apple ID, you will need to create one before you will be able to download the drivers.
If you have installed, or are going to install Mac OS 9.1 or later from a Mac OS Install CD, do not download either of these drivers; refer to the Quick Start Guide included in the HARMONi package for information on how to install FireWire drivers in your system.

VST Firewire Disk Encryption 1.0.1 is developed to be a helpful program which makes it easier for you to use VST and SmartDisk FireWire drives under Mac OS X with password protection or encryption using VST Format or SmartDisk Tools under previous versions of the Mac OS. It does not permit you to password protect or encrypt a drive within OS X. If you wish to encrypt or password protect a drive you must first reboot into Mac OS 9.x or earlier and use VST Format or SmartDisk Tools.

Apple FireWire Audio Driver Update 1.0.8 is recommended for users of FireWire audio devices built on the BridgeCo Enhanced Breakout Box (BeBoB), including the FA-101 from Roland/Edirol.
