Find A Word 2.1.0
Find A Word is a word game more>>
Enter Your Word and click on the "Enter" button (or press the Return key). To be accepted, a word must be made from the Letter Pot letters, be included in the Find A Word dictionary (no proper names, contractions or abbreviations) and be unique (not used before in this turn). If you do not want to wait until the end of the turn, click the "Start Turn" button to continue through your five turns. The "End Game" button clears all words and scoring. You get ten points for each word plus one point for each letter in the word. If you find 30 words before the end of a turn, the turn ends and you get 200 bonus points plus a time bonus (1/10/100 points per unused second for 90/60/30 seconds per turn).
At the end of five turns, your Total Score will be compared to the top ten scores. If your score is within the ten top scores, your name, score, number of turns that you received a bonus and your Time per Turn will be added to the High Scores table. The High Scores window can be accessed at any time from the menu bar. You can edit a name in the High Scores window by double-clicking a name, typing a new name, and pressing the "Enter" button.
The Find A Word dictionary includes over 80,000 words. You can add/subtract words using the Word Maintenance window accessed from the menu bar. When you first launch the Find A Word program, the default dictionary is saved to your hard drive. Changes (additions or deletions) are saved automatically and the revised dictionary is loaded at the beginning of the next session. You can click the "Use Default Word Set" button at any time. Warning: Clicking this button will overwrite your revised dictionary immediately. If you want to improve your play skills, you can find a list of words that could be made from your Letter Pot letters by selecting Improve Skills under the Help menu and following the steps. Sound can be turned on/off.
A Help window is available. This game was written in REALbasic and is freeware.

Find Any File 1.3
Find Any File is an easy to use application that can search your local disks for files by name, creation or modification date, size, or type and creator code (not by content, though). more>>
On the other hand, it may take a little longer than Spotlight, and it is only fast on HFS(+) volumes. But even on mounted network volumes of a Mac OS X server it can still be surprisingly fast. Hence, this is not an entire replacement for Spotlight but it can come handy in certain, if not many, situations.
Major Features:
- If you hold the Option key down while choosing Find, you are asked for an administrator password - and then Find Any File will restart with root permissions, being able to find really any file on your Mac's volumes (something that Spotlight won't do). Note that this will only work on local disks, not on network mounts, though.
- It sports a new hierarchical view for the found items. You can switch to it using Command-2 or click on the right little icon at the top of the results window. The view looks like this: The above search revealed hundreds of hits. If you'd look at that many results in a flat list, it would be hard to browse. With this new hierarchical view, however, you can directly look for the results in the folders that interest you.
- You can save your entered searches to files (they'll have the extension ".faf"). You can later open them again from within the Find Any File application, or you can double click them in the Finder - in the latter case the search will automatically start, unless you hold down the Option key while Find Any File opens the document.
- Has a new hierarchical view of the found items, making it much easier to browse 100s of items (see the screenshot).
- Can run as root user, finding really any file on your disk, even those that are hidden from normal users.
- Can save queries and run them again later.
- Is quite fast: About 10 times faster than EasyFind 4.0.1 when searching for a file name (Mac Pro with 2 million files, searching "httpd.conf": EasyFile: 150s, this app: 15s)
Enhancements:
- Find extensions with new name criteria ends in.
- Saving a Search provides choice whether to autorun it or not.
- Automatic online check for program updates via Sparkle.
- Sorting choice in result windows is now remembered.
- New "Window" menu in the menu bar.
- Bug fixes as well, of course
Requirements:
- Mac OS X 10.4 or later (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard)
