FileSync 2.2
FileSync is a versatile tool updating copies of your current work more>>
FileSync 2.2 is a versatile tool updating copies of your current work. It includes important changes to the synchronizer that handles invisibles better. FileSync is a file synchronization utility originally created in 2003. Synchronization is fast, threaded and cancelable. Synchronization lists for each volume or server are created, stored and selected from a convenient drawer window.
Major Features:
- FileSync updates only recently modified files, and copies any new or orphaned files on one location that are not on the other location.
- FileSync progress shows the current file being checked and lists all files copied, both to and from a master's copy location. A "mirror" option is available to prevent new and orphaned files on the Copy coming back to the Master. Notifications appear when synchronizing is completed.
- FileSync works best with locally mounted volumes; Airport can be painfully slow on folders that contain many items. Be sure to check a volume is mounted and privileges are sufficient. When the synchronizer detects read-only volumes or servers, it will report "disk is full". Read-only conditions may occur when attempting to synchronize with ftp-mounted servers or volumes without adequate permissions.
- Under Tiger, FileSync's synchronization lists drawer continues to be useful for mounting shared volumes to the desktop. Unfortunately, with Leopard, the Finder must be used to mount shared volumes to the desktop before using FileSync with them. Check the Finder Preferences are set to show connected servers on the desktop.
- There are occasions when it is undesireable to have new (or orphaned) files on a Copy location. copied back over to a Master. A "mirror" option is provided that updates with the Master's file structure and moves all new and orphaned files on the Copy location to the Trash. Mirroring is necessary when synchronizing files that are document packages.
