MacAppStuff Shredder 1.0b
MacAppStuff Shredder is considered as a useful tool which allows you to securely erase files, meaning that if they are ever recovered (by specialist software) their content will be useless. more>>
MacAppStuff Shredder 1.0b is considered as a useless. For added security, data can be overwritten up to 35 times and the name and date of the file/folder changed to random values.
Both files and folders can be added to the list to be shredded. Files will have their content overwritten and then the file will be deleted.
Any folders in the list will be searched and any files residing in them will be shredded. The folder will then be deleted.
If you choose to randomly rename and re-date files/folders, this will occur j
File Adopter X 1.0
File Adopter X - Adds Type/Creator codes using Internet Config more>>
It can replace existing type and creator codes if they disagree with Internet Config, or only add codes when they are absent. After adopting a file, it shows you the changes it has made.
You can also hold down Shift to orphan a file, instead of adopting it. This is useful if you know that the file has incorrect codes but that the correct ones arent in Internet Config.
File Vaporizer 0.5b
File Vaporizer - Securely delete files from your HD more>>
The deal is that FileVaporizer is free. It was a fun little app to write, and it serves a function. There are other apps out there that do basically the same thing.
Were not going to lie to you. But are they free? So what does File Vaporizer do, exactly? See, when you trash a file and erase it from your computer, it really doesnt erase the file. What happens is the space that that file occupies is flagged as blank space.
Thats all. No actual erasing happens. Eventually you may add some files to your hard drive and that will write over the file you erased. However it may not write over that files space for quite a while, and even then it may only partially write over it.
There exist programs that can un-erase the files on your hard drive, and they can be used to retrieve sensitive information from you computer which you thought you deleted!
What FileVaporizer does to files which you wish to erase is to first write over them with random data and then delete them, thus making them unrecoverable. Pretty simple.
We hope to release better versions in the future with more features (drag-n-drop, internet cache delete, etc.), but until then you get this version for free. What would be really excellent is if you would write to us and give us suggestions on future functionality you would like to see.

Mined 2000.15
Powerful text editor supporting modern interaction paradigms, and with a fast, small-footprint behavior more>> Powerful text editor supporting modern interaction paradigms, and with a fast, small-footprint behavior
Mined is a powerful text editor with a comprehensive yet concise and easy-to-use user interface supporting modern interaction paradigms, and fast, small-footprint behaviour.
Mined provides both extensive Unicode and CJK support offering many specific features and covering special cases that other editors are not aware of (like auto-detection features and automatic handling of terminal variations, or Han character information). It was the first editor that supported Unicode in a plain-text terminal (like xterm or rxvt).
Basically, mined is an editor tailored to reliable and efficient editing of plain text documents and programs, with features and interactive behaviour designed for this purpose.
Mined runs on many platforms: Unix (Mac OS X/Linux/Sun/HP/BSD and more), Windows (cygwin, Interix), DOS (djgpp), including legacy systems (old Unix systems). Was also ported to VMS, EMX, and even still compiles with Turbo-C.
Main features:
- Intuitive user interface
- Logical and consistent concept of navigating and editing text (without ancient line-end handling limitations or insert/append confusion)
Supports various control styles:
- Editing with command control, function key control, or menu control
- Navigation by cursor keys, control keys, mouse or scrollbar
- Concise and comprehensive menus (driven by keyboard or mouse)
- "HOP" key paradigm doubles the number of navigation functions that can be most easily reached and remembered by intuitively amplifying the associated function
- Immediate adjustment if the window size is changed, in any state of interaction
- Extensive Unicode support, including double-width and combining characters, script highlighting, various methods of character input support (mapped keyboard input methods, mnemonic and numeric input), supporting CJK, Vietnamese, Hebrew, Arabic, and other scripts
- Extensive accented character input support, including multiple accent prefix keys.
- Support for Greek (monotonic and polytonic).
- Support for Cyrillic accented characters.
- Support of bidirectional terminals, Arabic ligature joining
- East Asian character set support: handling of major CJK encodings (including GB18030 and full EUC-JP with combining characters)
- Support for a large number of 8 bit encodings (with combining characters for Vietnamese, Thai, Arabic, Hebrew)
- Support of CJK input methods by enhanced keyboard mapping including multiple choice mappings (handled by a pick list menu); characters in the pick list being sorted by relevance of Unicode ranges
- Han character information with description and pronunciation
- Auto-detection of text character encoding, edits files with mixed character encoding sections (e.g. mailboxes), transparent handling and auto-detection of UTF-16 encoded files
- Auto-detection of UTF-8 / CJK / 8 bit terminal mode and detailed features (like different Unicode width and combining data versions)
- Comprehensive and flexible (though standard-conformant) set of mechanisms to specify both text and terminal encodings with useful precedences.
- Flexible combination of any text encoding with any terminal encoding.
- Encoding support tested with: xterm, mlterm, rxvt, cxterm, kterm, hanterm, kde konsole, gnome-terminal, linux console
- Many text editing features, e.g. paragraph wrapping, auto-indentation and back-tab, smart quotes (with quotation marks style selection and auto-detection) and smart dashes
- Search and replacement patterns can have multiple lines
- Cross-session paste buffer (copy/paste between multiple even subsequent or remote invocations of mined)
- Optional Unicode paste buffer mode with implicit conversion
- Marker stack for quick return to previous text positions
- Multiple paste buffers (emacs-style)
- Program editing features, HTML support and syntax highlighting, identifier and function definition search, also across files; structure input support
- Text and program layout features; auto-indentation and undent function (back-tab), numbered item justification
- Systematic text and file handling safety, avoiding loss of data
- Visible indications of special text contents (TAB characters, different line-end types, character codes that cannot be displayed in the current mode)
- Full binary transparent editing with visible indications (illegal UTF-8 or CJK, mixed line end types, NUL characters, ...)
- Print function that works in all text encodings
- Optional password hiding
- Optional emacs command mode
Shredder Widget 1.2.1
Shredder Widget - digital document shredder right in your Dashboard more>> Shredder Widget - digital document shredder right in your Dashboard
Shredder Widget will give you the convenience and security of a digital document shredder right in your Dashboard; even better, its 100% silent and doesnt leave shredded bits about for you to clean up later. Its variable shred levels give you just the amount of protection you need.
Low: Bypass the trash can. Though this isnt as secure a deletion of your files, it is a quick way to get rid of those files you know you dont need, leaving the trash can for those things you just might want to dig out later.
Medium: Secure erase. This mode overwrites your shredded documents with a US Department of Defence compliant 7 pass procedure.
High: Virtual Paper Pulp. Use this setting for only the most sensetive files. Though it might be slow, the 35 pass Gutmann algorithm will ensure that no data from these files is ever recovered.
The digital document shredder is everything you need to feel secure while sitting in front of your Mac. And, with the upcoming release of Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard with Time Machine, this widget will step up to the task of making sure that not even travel backward through time can recover the data you want to permanently remove from your system.
Be careful, though: shredding is total and permanent, and Interdimension Media assumes no responsibility for any loss of data that you may incur through its use (thats the point, though, right?). Just watch out; the desire to round up some digital scraps of paper just for the satisfaction of watching them shred to bits may overtake you.
To shred a document, click and drag a file from the Finder. Then use a hotkey (F12 by default) to call up Dashboard, keeping the document in hand. Drop it on the shredder to permanently erase it from your system.
Enhancements
- Leopard compatibility
- Cycle shred level while dragging (hover over indicator light)
- Cycle shred level with spacebar
- Now shreds documents with foreign characters in filename
- Smoother animation
