encrytpadoro is a simple yet powerful encryption program. I originally wrote it so that I could keep my passwords written down in my notebook; a notebook which is often left laying about. With the passwords written down in encrypted format, I was free to leave them insecure, the only requirement being the security of the key used to encrypt and decrypt the passwords. Even I can remember a single key.
The problem I had with most encryption programs is that the resulting output is 8-bit ASCII characters. While this is fine for file-based encryption, its not so good if you want to be able to write down the encrypted result, or pass it along to a friend in an email. Some encryption programs will present the results in HEX which is an improvement, but it results in encrypted messages that are really long. With encryptadoro, the decrypted result consists of lower- and upper-case letters, numbers, periods, and hyphens; all characters that are easy to write and the increase in the encrypted message length is minimized.
encryptadoro makes use of triple DES encryption in CBC mode. The encryption routines were written by Paul Treo and are used here with his permission. To find out more about DES encryption and Pauls implimentaion of it, visit his site.
Enhancements:
- Added the ability to save encrypted results that can be recalled later. Great for saving passwords! While results should still be written down or saved elsewhere as back-up, this is much more convenient than typing them in every time.
- Added messaging to give feedback on when things are working... or not.
- Better support for copying large results onto the clipboard.
- No longer showing the statistics.
- Changed the default size of the widget.
- General UI improvements throughout.

Crypt 1.2 brings full re-branding functionality to encrypt/decrypt files. It uses RC-4 (128-bit) encryption technology, which is the same as what most secure web sites use. Encrypted files have the .crypt suffix appended to the file name. Crypt is free and very powerful. It uses open source (OpenSSL) technology and can be used to encrypt/decrypt as many files as you want in a single command.

Crypto Wizard is an useful AppleScript that encrypts/decrypts any text in the clipboard with a password. It uses a mathematical transformation for text encryption and seems to be quite secure.

Drop a file on this application to quickly and securely encrypt it, or decrypt previously encrypted files. Supports both QE's original encryption format, and a text-based one, suitable for sending in the body of e-mail messages. Supports self-decrypting archives, so you can send encrypted data to another user without them needing to have QuickEncrypt.

- Adds a shred option (-s) to secure delete files instead of just the standard remove command. The shred will overwrite the file 25 times then add a final overwrite with zeros to hide the shredding. Finally it removes the file after shredding.
