So in my frustration I created this simple Applescript droplet that works just like the "Copy To" item from Windows Explorer. Drag and drop files on this applications icon in the Finder to copy those files to another folder on your computer. Brilliant!

An example of space-shifting would be to copy one or more DVD discs to your laptop hard drive so as to watch them while on a long airplane flight. A final usage of DVDBackup would be to allow you to modify or excerpt sections of DVD video and audio to create your own movies.
Enhancements:
- Fixed bug where VIDEO_TS.VOB files were not getting scanned for decryption.
- (This affected mainly Columbia/TriStar releases which encrypted the initial studio logo)
- Fixed size of text box for New Folder section of save dialog.
- Added localization for Italian (many thanks to Bruno Vella for his help!).
- Now compiled with GCC 3.1 and Mac OS 10.2 headers

I wrote this for a specifc purpose*, but hopefully the ideas can be used to suit similar needs. I was helped along by scripts posted here by Dan Decker and Robert Metzker, so I thought Id share the results.
*My particular need was to duplicate the folder structure of my iTunes Music Library into a spot where it would get backed up, but not copy the music files themselves. What I wanted to back up were the image files I had found/created, and in the process remove them from the library, since they didnt seem to "belong" there.

This script opens a COPY of the log, so you wont damage the original if youre still chatting with that buddy. If you dont own a copy of BBEdit, or dont want your logs to open in BBEdit, you can change the script to open the log file in another application.

Apple Disk Copy Scripts 6.3 is a simple and effective shell and desktop program for Mac. AppleScripts that extend the functionality of Disk Copy, version 6.3 or greater. They are provided as examples of how to use AppleScript to control Disk Copy, and gain access to features not present in the user interface. Create self-mounting image will prompt the user to select a disk image, verify it, then let the user save it as a self-mounting image.
AppleScripts can be executed directly from Disk Copy by placing them in a folder named "Scripts" in the same folder as Disk Copy. When a Scripts folder containing AppleScripts is present, a new menu will appear in Disk Copy named "Scripts". AppleScripts selected from this menu will have their "on run" handler executed.

There is a bug in the "Move To..." action that occasionally flashes an error message, but it doesnt seem to affect performance and the message disappears as quickly as it comes. I dont know what the problem is and, as long as the action works like its supposed to, I dont much care.
Use in "Finder Plugin" mode install by double-clicking the included applescript.
