Diffly 0.8.0

Diffly 0.8.0

Diffly - browse a Subversion working copy and see all the changes, across all the files more>>
Diffly is a program created in Objective-C using the delightful Cocoa framework.
Despite my inept UI design skills Cocoa allowed me to come up with something that works pretty well and, for the most part, looks quite good. Ill try and improve the look & feel in future versions.
Diffly is designed to make it easy to browse a Subversion working copy and see all the changes, across all the files.
You can filter out files you dont care about (e.g. externals) and sticky-select files for checking in. When it comes time to check in its easy to review the changes for the files you are working with and assemble a detailed commit message and check-in.
Diffly does not attempt to be a general Subversion GUI but is, instead, streamlined to make the process of browsing and committing simple, logical, and fast. It makes a good complement to a more sophisticated, but less focused, client like SvnX. I use Diffly and SvnX together but for my day-to-day work I prefer Diffly.
Main features:
- Focused around core developer workflow.
- Browse changes across an entire working copy within an integrated browser interface.
- Convenient for selecting files, browsing, creating a detailed check-in message, then committing.
- See changes in a customizable web view.
- Filters to see what you want to see: show/hide folders, externals, and unversioned files, ...
- Quick open files in FileMerge for more context.
- Jump directly from any change to its file location in TextMate
- Command line integration: diffly (I invoke it from TextMate)
- Open multiple working copies simultaneously. Remembers open browsers between invocations.
- Native MacOSX Aqua interface.
- Automatic updates using the Sparkle framework.
Enhancements:
Bug fixes:
- Fixed bug with changing svn path and stylesheet preferences
- No longer opens a copy of FileMerge for each file (thanks to Neill Bogie for the fix)
- Now issues "--diff-cmd diff" to avoid conflict with user subversion config (thanks to Benoit Gagnon for the fix)
Improvements:
- Stylesheet default font size set to 9pt (no so huge!!)
- Preserve selected items across refresh
- Will prompt with the prefs panel if the svn path is wrong at startup
- Status items get refreshed properly

BinDiff 1.1.3

BinDiff 1.1.3

BinDiff - Cross-platform diff utility for binary files more>>
BinDiff is a cross-platform diff utility for binary files. BinDiff intelligently compares two versions of a binary file, and creates a diff file that contains the differences between the two files.

An example: you could use BinDiff when you regularly have to send updates of a large file over some communications line: instead of sending a complete update each time, you could send the complete file only once, and after that you could create a diff file between the original file and the updated file.

At the receiving side, this diff file can be used to create the updated file from the original file.

Creating a diff file is quite processor- and memory intensive. On the other hand, using a diff file to create the updated file is a very lightweight and fast process.

diff2html is a free and open source bash script that uses the output from diff(1) to create a HTML file with color comparison of file1 to file2.
The HTML file (optionally) formats using CSS. Hyperlinks are provided to jump to the changed lines.

Enhancements
- This release is 2 orders of magnitude faster than the last release! It now uses binary searches of the addition/change/deletion arrays to provide much needed performance improvement. Also fixes a bug to allow file names with spaces.

Diff'npatch 1.4.1

Diff'npatch 1.4.1

Diffnpatch is designed as an easy to use port to the Macintosh of the GNU diff, patch and cmp utilities. more>>

Diff'npatch 1.4.1 is designed as an easy to use port to the Macintosh of the GNU 'diff', 'patch' and 'cmp' utilities.

Major Features:

  1. It lets you compare and find differences between two files or folders, collate two files, generate diffs in various formats (normal, context, unidiff, etc.), apply patches, compare files byte by byte.
  2. It can handle any type of line endings (mac, unix or windows): Macintosh files have 'cr' line endings, Unix files have 'lf' line endings and Windows files have 'crlf' line endings. By default Diff'nPatch is able to guess the type of the files to compare. You can also specify this type explicitly.
  3. With Diff'nPatch, you can collate two text files: they are displayed in a special "collate window" in two adjacent frames and you can browse through the differences, apply a difference from one file to the other, save the files, etc. Use the two buttons with a curved arrow to apply a diff from the old to the new file or from the new to the old one. If you press the option key while clicking on one of these buttons, then all diffs will be applied (a dialog asks you to confirm). To go from one diff to the other, you can use the slider or the navigation keys of your keyboard. Note that the separator between the two adjacent panels is moveable: just grab it with the mouse cursor.
  4. You can also apply a patch, that is to say apply a file previously generated by 'diff' to an old file to restitute the new one. This is done in the 'patch' window which lets you specify a certain number of options.
  5. There is also a command which lets you compare files (text or binary) byte by byte. Diff'nPatch is entirely scriptable with AppleScript. More than 30 options. Various parameters can be customized via preferences.

Requirements:

  • Mac OS 9 or higheror
  • Mac OS X 10.0 or higher

MediaWiki 1.15

MediaWiki 1.15

Collaborative editing software that runs Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, and other projects. MediaWiki is an extremely powerful, scaleable software and a feature-rich wiki implementation, that uses more>> Collaborative editing software that runs Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, and other projects.

MediaWiki is an extremely powerful, scaleable software and a feature-rich wiki implementation, that uses PHP to process and display data stored in its MySQL database.
MediaWiki is designed to handle a large number of users and pages without imposing too rigid a structure or workflow. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
Pages use MediaWikis wikitext format, so that users without knowledge of XHTML or CSS can edit them easily.
When a user submits an edit to a page, MediaWiki writes it to the database, but without deleting the previous versions of the page, thus allowing easy reverts in case of vandalism or spamming.
MediaWiki can manage image and multimedia files, too, which are stored in the filesystem. For large wikis with lots of users, MediaWiki supports caching and can be easily coupled with Squid proxy server software.

System requirements:
- PHP 5 (5.1 recommended). PHP 4 is no longer supported.
- MySQL 3.23.x is no longer supported; some older hosts may need to upgrade. At this time we still recommend 4.0, but 4.1/5.0 will work fine in most cases.

Duplicity 0.6.03

Duplicity 0.6.03

Duplicity is a helpful tool with which you can back directories by producing encrypted tar-format volumes and uploading them to a remote or local file server. more>>

Duplicity 0.6.03 is a helpful tool with which you can back directories by producing encrypted tar-format volumes and uploading them to a remote or local file server. Because duplicity uses librsync, the incremental archives are space efficient and only record the parts of files that have changed since the last backup. Because duplicity uses GnuPG to encrypt and/or sign these archives, they will be safe from spying and/or modification by the server.

The duplicity package also includes the rdiffdir utility. Rdiffdir is an extension of librsync's rdiff to directories---it can be used to produce signatures and deltas of directories as well as regular files. These signatures and deltas are in GNU tar format.

Duplicity is still in Beta. As any software, it may still have a few bugs, but will work for normal usage and is in use now for large personal and corporate backups.

In theory many protocols for connecting to a file server could be supported; so far ssh/scp, local file access, rsync, ftp, HSI, WebDAV, and Amazon S3 have been written. Currently duplicity supports deleted files, full unix permissions, directories, and symbolic links, fifos, and device files, but not hard links.

Major Features:

  1. Easy to use: Although duplicity is a command-line utility, the semantics are relative simply. To take a basic example, this command: duplicity /usr scp://host.net/target_dir backs up the /usr directory to the remost host host.net via scp.
  2. Encrypted and signed archives: The archives that duplicity produces can be encrypted and signed using GnuPG, the standard for free software cryptology. The remote location will not be able to infer much about the backups other than their size and when they are uploaded. Also, if the archives are modified on the remote side, this will be detected when restoring.
  3. Bandwidth and space efficient: Duplicity uses the rsync algorithm so only the changed parts of files are sent to the archive when doing an incremental backup. For instance, if a long log file increases by just a few lines of text, a small diff will be sent to and saved in the archive. Other backup programs may save a complete copy of the file.
  4. Standard file format: Athough archive data will be encrypted, inside it is in standard GNU-tar format archives. A full backup contains normal tarballs, and incremental backups are tar archives of new files and the deltas from previous backups. The deltas are in the format produced by librsync's command-line utility rdiff.
  5. Although you should never have to look at a duplicity archive manually, if the need should arise they can be produced and processed using GnuPG, rdiff, and tar.
  6. Choice of remote protocol: Duplicity does not make many demands on its archive server. As long as files can be saved to, read from, listed, and deleted from a location, that location can be used as a duplicity backend. Besides increasing choice for the user, it can make a server more secure, as clients only require minimal access. Currently local file storage, scp/ssh, ftp, rsync, HSI, WebDAV, and Amazon S3 are supported, and others shouldn't be difficult to add.

Requirements:

  • Duplicity requires a POSIX-like operating system. It is best used under GNU/Linux. It also requires:
    • Python v2.3 or later (Python Home)
    • librsync v0.9.6 or later (librsync Home)
    • GnuPG for encryption (GnuPG Home)
    • NcFTP version 3.1.9 or later (NcFTP Home)
    • Boto 0.9d or later (Boto Home)
  • If you install from the source package, you will also need:
    • Python development files, normally found in module 'python-dev'
    • librsync development files, normally found in module 'librsync-dev'

Enhancements:

  • Restart error handling has been smoothed out a great deal and it "does what is right" in order to keep going.
  • Backends are now optional, if they fail an Info message is put out to notify of the failure and why.
  • There was more work on translations and internationalization.

EdGCM 3.1

EdGCM 3.1

EdGCM is a global climate model more>>
EdGCM permits teachers and students to explore the fundamentals of climate science utilizing tools identical to those used in major climate research programs.
Many simple climate experiments are possible (e.g. How does the sun warm the planet?), but, it is also possible to conduct in-depth investigations of current events, in near real-time, as they are being studied by climate scientists.
EdGCM comes with some pre-prepared scenarios for investigating a variety of interesting climate issues (global warming, ice ages), but teachers can, also, easily construct their own scenarios to satisfy curricular requirements.
EdGCM easily scales for use at levels from middle school to graduate school, making it a unique tool for linking research to the classroom.
Our future plans involve the creation of the EdGCM Cooperative, a network of researchers and educators actively collaborating on climate research projects.
Enhancements:
Bug Fixes
- Bugs in line plot background/foreground color
- Trendsetter Problems
- Tab order on Mapwindow
- Stop and Restart makes Averaging crash
- Copying problem with EVA data table headers
- EVA data tables for time series are missing the last row
- Cant Extract files in EdGCM 3.1 due to makenetCDFij error
- Export does not work well
Enhancements
- Need a method to create Time Series plots that give generic X axis values instead of years
- Automatically display diff files when created

AnaBuilder for Mac 2.47.0

AnaBuilder for Mac 2.47.0

AnaBuilder is a freeware program for the creation of stereoscopic photographs. more>> AnaBuilder is a freeware program for the creation of stereoscopic photographs (anaglyph, parallel, crossed, ... anaglyphs are viewed through Red/Cyan glasses). The program makes it possible to readjust the two views manually or fully automatically! Supports multiple languages. AnabuilderJava.zip contains the minimum to make it running, or to update a previous version. There is also an automatic installer for full installation available on the web site.
AnaBuilder provides integration with the 3D modeler Art Of Illusion. It enables a live stereo adjustment of a virtual pair of cameras in the 3D scene (with anaglyph glasses) before running the (heavy) final render. Then, the final pair may be reloaded in AnaBuilder to make anaglyph color corrections or to be used with other means of stereo viewing. It is also possible to use AoI to make 3D stereo brushes, and to paint with them in AnaBuilder.
AnaBuilder offers an integration with the stereoscope viewer. It enables views as cross-eyed, parallel, KMQ, mirror, or shutter glasses (Elsa Revelator, H3D, D4D)....
AnaBuilder offers an integration with the panorama viewer PTViewer.
AnaBuilder offers a 2D->3D->Stereo conversion tool. AnaBuilder (old Windows version) also allows stereo-morphing to convert a 2D photo into a 3D photo, or to modify the depht of an existing 3D photo.
AnaBuilder makes it possible to touch up the photographs in 3d, or to draw in 3d.
AnaBuilder offers a bracketing merger : 2 methods (the second one is not yet explained, but is much more intuitive and easy to use than the first one), a noise reduction tool, a local diff corrector for brightness or white balance, and a corrector of color histogram differences.
AnaBuilder offers a users image forum.
AnaBuilder offers a phantogram builder.
AnaBuilder enables to generate slideshow that can be viewed with the stereo image browser StereoBee.
AnaBuilder uses the Look&Feels.
