ACE Milestone 4

ACE Milestone 4

ACE - a platform-independent, collaborative editor more>>
ACE is a platform-independent, collaborative text editor. It is a real-time cooperative editing system that allows multiple geographically dispersed users to view and edit a shared text document at the same time.

ACE is a program that allows multiple geographically dispersed users to view and edit a shared text document at the same time, thus facilitating efficient teamwork.

According to available knowledge, there is only one such application; it works well and has reached widespread use. Unfortunately, it is limited to the Mac platform. ACE is the first collaborative text editor that runs across all major platforms, including Windows, Linux, and Mac.

First of all, ACE is a simple text editor with standard features such as copy/paste and load/save. Multiple documents can be edited at the same time. Furthermore, ACE can share documents with other users on different computers, connected by communication networks.

ACE also discovers users and their shared documents automatically in a local area network. Users can opt to join any discovered shared document. For all this, no configuration is necessary because it is based on zero-conf networking (also known as Bonjour or Rendezvous).

Once a user has joined a shared document, he can freely edit the document at the same time with all participants as a virtual team. So-called awareness information helps to avoid unnecessary conflicts (i.e. two users editing at the same time and text location).

Awareness information includes the cursor and the currently selected text of the other users marked with the color of the respective user.

The heart of the application is a concurrency control algorithm based on the innovative concept of Operational Transformation, which allows for lock-free editing of a document by multiple users. It imposes no editing constraints and resolves all conflicts automatically.

The algorithm overcomes one of the most significant challenges in designing and implementing real-time collaborative editing systems, namely consistency preservation. That is to ensure that at quiescence (i.e. when no messages are in transit) the shared document is identical for all participants.

This algorithm was implemented as part of the semester project and forms the foundation of ACE.

ACE builds upon open technologies such as BEEP (RFC 3080) and zero-conf networking; all this leaves the possibility open to communicate even with different applications that understand the public protocol of ACE.

Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.1

Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.1

Oracle JDeveloper - a J2EE and XML development environment with end-to-end support for developing applications and Web services more>>
Oracle JDeveloper is a powerful software that marks a significant milestone in the progress of application development.

We spent more time than ever in this release listening carefully to what our users need in order to make them more productive. We also embarked on an intensive design and usability review by an external company.

The result of these efforts is a huge leap forward in the speed in which developers can create, assemble, and reuse components to build rich, interactive applications that are highly performant and easy to maintain.

Enhanced use experience

There have been many updates throughout the product to make working with JDeveloper a pleasant experience. These improvements are not restricted to a particular type of development, but have been applied consistently to all areas of the design time.
• Enhanced navigator: The Application Navigator has been enhanced to organize your application the way you want. New categories make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. Collapsible panels put common elements of your application within easy reach. Files that make up a composite node are conveniently exposed by simply clicking on the composite node.
• Improved Component Palette: The component palette now features collapsible panels and divider sections to organize related components. A quick search field is provided to help locate components. You can now add commonly-used components to your Favorites list for easier access later, and another panel keeps track of your recently used components.
• New Property Inspector: The Property Inspector has been redesigned with a new, user-friendly layout. Property categories have been used consistently throughout the product to make using the Property Inspector more predictable.
• Application Overview: The new Application Overview window provides a convenient listing of all the sources for your application, grouped into helpful categories. From here, you can get a sense of the overall status of your application (which sources are incomplete, which have errors, etc) too. The Application Overview also functions as a way for you to learn about the various kinds of components you may use in your application, and easily launch wizards to create them.
• File List: The File List makes it easier than ever to locate source files that are part of your project. You can search by file name, file extension, status, date modified and more.
• Updated appearance: The JDeveloper development environment has been updated with a brand-new look.
• Integrated modeless editors: Many editors for components have been converted to integrated modeless editors. These appear in the editor area along with the other editors, and allow for much more productive navigation.
• Contextual linking: Contextual linking is the concept that as you are working on something, you should be able to easily get to relevant related resources. For example, as you are working on defining a page flow for databound pages, you should be able to easily get to the page definition of those pages. This concept is now employed wherever it makes sense in the development environment.

Resource Catalog

The Resource Catalog is your window onto the many disparate resources your application may need to consume. It allows you to define connections to the resource providers, and drag-and-drop those resources into your application as needed. The resource catalog provides a search tool to search all the defined repositories in a single action.

Connections can be created for the following types of resource repositories:
• Application server
• Database
• File system
• UDDI Registry
• URL adapter
• WebDAV

New diagramming framework

The internal diagramming framework used to build the UML tools in JDeveloper, the Page Flow diagrams, and other visual editors has been re-architected to be more flexible for internal consumers.

Java Coding and Agile Development

New code generators

New generators have been added for generating equals and hashcode and to simplify generating fields and properties with getters and setters and to generate constructor from fields

Updated JUnit 4.0 support

JDeveloper now generates unit tests using JUnit 4 annotations. The integrated runner has been updated to support JUnit 4, including new instructions, such as @ignore.

New profilers

The new profilers leverage JVMTI and therefore run on any certified Java VM. Oracles OJVM is no longer required for profiling.
• CPU Profiler
• Memory Profiler

XML Compare

Comparing of XML files is now done using an XML-aware algorithm. In previous releases compare was done using a line algorithm with no understanding of the syntax of the file content. XML is used extensively within JDeveloper (projects, diagrams, ADF artifacts) and the characteristics of the file content will be understood by the tool.

For example if an XML elements attributes are reordered the compare tool will not mark that as a change - the attributes (name and value) are the same, but in different positions.

The compare tool is used by all the version control extensions to compare file content with previous versions. Compare is also used by the local history feature to compare content between saved points.

Enhanced Merge Conflict Resolution for Subversion and CVS

JDeveloper now provides an enhanced XML-aware interactive GUI to browse and update unresolvable conflicts reported during the merge process.

TracGViz 1.3.4

TracGViz 1.3.4

TracGViz is a complete and useful package (plugin) which provides components so that Trac be able to use widgets and related technologies offered by Google. more>>

TracGViz 1.3.4 is a complete and useful package (plugin) which provides components so that Trac be able to use widgets and related technologies offered by Google.

Major Features:

  1. It allows to feed data managed by Trac to widgets based on Google Visualization API.
  2. It allows embedding iGoogle Gadgets in wiki pages using WikiFormatting.

Enhancements:

  • New ! GVizQuickJumpEntries offers data about interesting places in the repository (a.k.a. quick jump entries). This includes tags and branches, for instance. The data is provided by VersionControlRPC.
  • Bug fixed: Formerly all revisions were included in the revision log if only individual revisions were requested. Now the result sets include just the information for the particular changesets supplied in rev parameter. Tested with both hg and svn.
  • Bug fixed: Exception with message Invalid list index was raised when using Subversion backend when requesting the log for individual revisions. This works OK now for both hg and svn.
  • Bug fixed: Wrong default value for fmt parameter in GVizChangesetDetails. Now it's OK.
  • Bug fixed: Formerly undocumented column in GVizTimelineFilters provider now contains appropriate description.
  • WikiFormatting may be used to document the data sources. It may be included in the documentation written for parameters, columns, and the data source itself.
  • Bug fixed: Documentation for providers having dynamic schemas was not previously rendered. This has been fixed and a new property has been added in docs to highlight whether the data source returns always the same columns or if they can vary depending upon run-time conditions.
  • Milestones may be filtered by name by providing a UNIX pattern in filter_by parameter.
  • UNIX filename patterns are compiled using REs for better performance.
  • Bug fixed: When using Hg backend, the code in version 1.3.3 in order to revisions iterator (VCS RPC) entered infinite loop (under certain conditions apparently related to branching or version numbers). This doesn't happen anymore.
  • Bug fixed: Now VCS RPC retrieves all changesets when using Hg backend. The implementation doesn't guess anymore the revision order and retrieves all that information directly from the underlying VCS connector in use. The former algorithm was weak because it only considered the first parent of a given revision. Therefore many others (especially all those in different branches) were missing from the result set.
  • Individual revisions (and not just intervals like before) may be selected in GVizChangesets (i.e. to obtain the revision log).
  • Bug fixed: As a consequence of the changes introduced in version 1.3.3 (especially in ReportRPC and VersionControlRPC) together with bug #5586@TH.org in XmlRpcPlugin, made impossible to render the main displaying documentation about the different RPC handlers. Both docstrings have been modified and everything is back to normal right now.

Onepoint Project 9.0

Onepoint Project 9.0

Integrates project planning, progress tracking, monitoring, and reporting into a single, easy-to-use tool more>> Integrates project planning, progress tracking, monitoring, and reporting into a single, easy-to-use tool

Onepoint Project integrates project planning, monitoring, progress tracking, controlling and reporting into a single, easy-to-use tool.
Onepoint Project represents a new class of Project Leadership Software solutions that does not require you to compromise between ease-of-use and functionality. In addition, Onepoints different editions scale with your needs and the size of your business.
Global competition, changing customer requirements and short development cycles make it increasingly harder for companies of all sizes to be permanently successful.
Especially the management of time and resource critical development and deployment projects provides ever new challenges for the people in charge. For this, outdated or not integrated project management systems are either not capable of delivering decision relevant information, or at least not fast enough.
Onepoint Project integrates project planning, project controlling, monitoring and reporting into a single, easy to use and open project leadership solution providing you with all relevant information when and where you need it.
There are two Onepoint Project "flavors": Basic (single-user desktop app) and Open (multi-user Web 2.0 app). Basic Edition is targeted at the "rookie" solo project manager and the Open Edition is 100% Web-based and targeted at startups and small project teams.

Main features:
- Reduced project risks through integrated solution and high usability
- Minimized project management effort via project templates and team orientation
- Increased project transparency through ad-hoc monitoring, traffic light functions & plan-actual comparisons
- Significantly minimized costs via reduced risks and administration, but increased transparency

Enhancements
- Together with a major user interface "facelift" we added many practical usability enhancements including more easy to read edit tool buttons, improved visualization of the project detail context (name and description) and extended navigation between project overviews and details.
- Week-based Work Slips Milestone Trends
- Based on feedback from many existing and prospective users we totally redesigned our work slips. Actual time and costs can still be entered on a daily basis, but the visualization of the work slips has been changed to a week-based view speeding up data entry and improving overall usability.
- Issue Tracking Option * Issue Tracking
- The Issue Tracking Option allows to report, track and manage project-related issues directly within Onepoint Project. Issues can be prioritized and support simple escalation scenarios. Like ad hoc tasks, issues are shown in personal task lists and support tracking of time and costs.
- Project Traffic Light Traffic Light
- All multi-project overviews now feature a simple, but powerful project traffic light. The status of the traffic light can be set by the project manager and indicates the internal overall status of the project. In addition, the project status color is visualized in the multi-project schedule.
- Custom Report Wizard Report Wizard
- The new report wizard allows manager users of Onepoint Project to create their own tabular reports simply via point & click. Such custom reports can then be saved and shared with other users or groups within the project organization. Custom reports support grouping, sorting and filtering.
- Risk Management Option * Risk Management
- The Risk Management Option provides the project manager with the ability to manage a version-controlled risk matrix for each project including risk description, probability and impact. Optionally, global risk categories can be defined in order to m
