A fun application that generates random insults in several different styles.

This new application was developed due to the huge demand for another application like the old Elizabethan Insult Generator I wrote. This application can do all the elizabethan insults and a whole lot more.

whatPorts is a multi-threaded port scanner that scans for open socket connections, which tend to be servers of some sort running, whether system services, authorized or unauthorized server, trojans, etc. and tries to report the services running on the open ports.
The scanner will cycle the ports on the host entered, and report back any ports that are open, attempting to match the port with its registered port database to determine the service that is most likely running on that port.
If the service can be determined, then it will inform you, otherwise, it will tell that it is unknown. Tests have shown that this scanner tends to run significantly faster than the scanner shipped with OS X, also, it goes one step beyond by telling you what service is most likely running on that port.
Enhancements:
- This version added a descriptive progress indicator, a port lookup database to determine the service running on a given port, and a tighter scanning algorythm.
- Also now allows any host to be scanned, not just the local host.

httpScanner is a cocoa java utility to scan the subnet entered for http servers running on the most common ports and attempt to identify them. This application, like all of my scanners, is multi-threaded for efficiency and speed. httpScanner was developed and tested using OS X, Jaguar.

forecast.cgi is a cgi weather forecast fetching implementation written in Python. It utilizes the weather.py module as well as the excellent qp_xml module (written by Greg Stein), both of which are available on the Python page at www.davtri.com. The cgi can be dropped in to anywhere that will allow cgi scripts to run. You also need to have the two above mentioned modules either in the same directory or somewhere on the PYTHONPATH. The usage is pretty much self explanator. The CGI script allows you to get the current conditions, todays forecast, tomorrows forecast, a three day forecast and a five day forecast.
The output from the module is valid xhtml 1.0 strict and it automatically includes a stylesheet called davtrimain.css. The name of the stylesheet can be changed at the top of the file, however, as it is contained in a variable, as is the name and location of the favicon and the copyright statement.
socketScanner and socketScannerP22 both work the same. The only difference is the name of the module you import. The socketScannerP22 file is a modified version of socketScanner that utilizes the timeoutsocket.py module by Timothy OMalley to enable socket timeouts.
Enhancements:
- The template for the form gave port scanning instructions. This was actually something I missed changing when taking this template from the portScan.cgi program.
- The program has been updated to give instructions for entering the correct zip code and not ports to be scanned. Otherwise, all is as it was.

IP to Decimal is a small utility for converting IP Addresses (i.e., 64.123.64.232) and Host Addresses (i.e., www.macupdate.com) to their decimal equivalent.

This can be done for many reasons: security audits, curiosity, bypassing filters, etc.

This application is written in Cocoa Java and is completly freeware.

In most web browsers and other host address applications, you can use the decimal address the same way you can a host address (www.yahoo.com) or and IP address (64.58.76.229). You could use the decimal translation for yahoo, google, slashdot, etc in your browser instead of the other addresses, and still get to the site.
