STARS is an exploratory data analysis package designed for variables measured for geographical units over time. It combines a series of statistical graphics and mapping views together with some newly developed measures for space-time statistical analysis.
The views support several types of dynamic visualization:
- Linking different views to examine a given observation across different dimensions (spatial, temporal, distributional)
- Conditioning (brushing) one or more destination views on the selection of a set of observations on an origin view
- Animations of of maps, distributions, box plots, scatter plots, parallel coordinate plots and other views over time
- Spatial traveling
- Roaming windows
- View generated views (creating new views from existing views)
STARS includes a suite of computational modules:
- Classic descriptive statistics
- Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (Local and Global Spatial Autocorrelation)
- Inequality Analysis
- Distributional mixing and mobility
- Classic Markov and Spatial Markov methods
STARS also includes utility methods for creating different types of geographical weight matrices, variable transformations, and for reading ArcView shapefiles to develop STARS projects.

Binary Stars is a free astronomy software for Macintosh computers, complete with manuals. It teaches binary star concepts. It may be used in a classroom or lab setting, or for self-education.

You have been granted the powers of a god -- complete control of your own personal binary star. Six panels display everything you ever wanted to know about a binary star: overhead view, view from the Earth with a super-gigantic telescope, light curve, radial-velocity curve, Hertzsprung-Russel diagram, and mass-radius plot. Animate the figures. Change the values of the parameters and immediately see the effects on every aspect of your binary star. Try fitting the parameters to simple practice data sets, then when youre ready, try out some real eclipsing binaries (10 real binaries are provided).

Collect stars by flying your spaceship into them, or by dragging them into your spaceship with your Star Beam. The Star Beam gives you greater accuracy in placing stars where you need them.

Connect 3 stars of the same colour and they will explode, automatically providing valuable fuel for your spaceship. If you run out of fuel, your spaceship will implode and you will lose a life. When a star is nearby, a marker will appear at the edge of the screen showing the colour and direction of the star. Use these for planning star groupings in the quickest possible time.

When stars explode, other stars may drift off into space. Collect them again for bonus points. The more you use your Thrust, the quicker your fuel will disappear! As the game progresses, thrusting uses more and more fuel, so be careful!
