Files, folders, applications, script applications, and a variety of other file types may be linked on disk much like items are linked on the web - the URL format is very similar.
But when clicked, linked items behave just as if they had been double-clicked in the Finder.
In addition, Missing Link can pass certain types of HTML and JavaScript form input to AppleScript handlers and may be used to make an HTML front end for a variety of AppleScript tasks that require user interaction.

Piltdown is written in Perl and will run on nearly any networked computer.
I wrote Piltdown after becoming frustrated with the alternatives. Most link checkers available on the Internet are either incomplete, inaccurate, or both. For example, certain Web servers do not respond appropriately to the HTTP "HEAD" request, so well written link checkers that depend on HEAD will report missing links where there are none. (My testing suggests that these non-compliant servers come from a certain corporation with initials "MS". Why am I not surprised?!) Another GUI based checker for OSX worked well, but flagged all relative links with a leading "/" as errors when they were not. And what about links that hide inside of CSS or javascript files? Most link checkers cant look inside these non-html files.
So there you have it. Piltdown is available for free (!), but please do not repackage or charge a fee for it. Piltdown comes without warrantee of any kind, expressed or implied. Since CodeWarrior now has its own communication with THINK Reference, this extension is not as vital as it once was. Frankly, I havent looked at it for a couple of years, I hope its still reasonably compatible!
Link-O-Mat is an AppleScript which converts email-, http-, ftp- or image-links into proper UBB or HTML code.
It will also place a text box containing the name of the "link to" file next to the picture box.
Select both boxes (group them if you like) and move them to the pasteboard or wherever you desire. The text box containing the "link to" doc name is created for your convienince and may be deleted if you want since the picture box contains the link!
To open "link to" documents, select the link icon boxes representing the files to open (dont worry if theyre grouped since the script will find "see" them anyway), and run the "Open Me!" script--it will open all "link to" documents. If a "link to" document has been moved to another location, the script will offer to find every matching file and open them. The "Open Me!" script requires the scriptable Finder that ships with system 7.5 or higher.
SWF Link Tool is a free and small utility for modifying links in SWF files. SWF Link Tool is intended for use during selective web archiving.
