Computer Glasses 2.1 is a free tool that lets you magnify a portion of the screen to read fine print or magnify an image.
When you open Computer Glasses, you see a red circle. Click on the circle (magnifier) and drag it over the area to be magnified. As you drag the magnifier, you will see crosshairs. When you release the mouse, the area inside the area within the circle will be magnified.
A Control Panel lets you choose the magnifier shape (Rectangle or Circle), the size of the magnifier (slider), turn the magnifier on/off and change the magnification (Slight, Medium, Larger and Largest). You can shrink the Control Panel, move it out of the way on the desktop, or minimize it to the Dock. You can close Computer Glasses by clicking on the control panels (red) close button.
Control Panel settings and location are saved between sessions. Magnifier location is saved between sessions and between Hide/Show views.

What the heck is a Turmite?
A Turmite is a variant on a Turing machine that runs in two dimensions. Its a machine that has a big table and keeps track of an internal state. Every time it takes a step, it takes the value (represented by different colors) of the screen where its sitting and its internal state, and looks them up in the table. The table entry gives it a new state to jump to, a new value to write to the screen, and whether it should turn left, turn right, or go straight.
Its a very simple concept that produces very interesting results. And of course, the Turing machine is the basis for all modern computation. A Turing machine, given enough time and space, can do anything a modern computer can do.

It is intended for multi-channel video art, video walls, etc. I designed it as an artist-friendly low-budget alternative to the expensive combo of industrial DVD players (Pioneer DVD-V7400, DVD-V5000) and Dave Jones Design sync boxes. Those systems are fantastic, but if you have a few computers and a network hub, MultiScreener is worth a try.
There are two applications: Server and Client. The server plays a movie and sends position information over the network. Each client "listens" to the server and subtly adapts its movie playback speed to stay in sync. There is no limit to the number of clients (but you need a computer for each one).
Looping and de-interlacing are available, and all settings are automatically saved for unattended startup. MultiScreener can output to the computer screen or external video devices (like DV cameras or decks). There is no native resolution or frame-rate, so all QuickTime video formats are supported equally. In my tests, DV NTSC movies synced perfectly on Dual 867 G4 towers through the latest Intel machines, but HD formats will probably demand more horsepower. (HD is untested as of May 2008.)
