CODEC is a 4th Dimension component which provides MD5 digest creation routines for 4th Dimension programmers.
CODEC is a subset of functions available already in the BASh 4D component.
In keeping with the tradition of offering high quality developer tools and services, Deep Sky Technologies, Inc., has made the CODEC component available for free to the developer community.
The CODEC component consists of two methods for the creation of MD5 digests:
CODEC_Encode_MD5_x creates a properly formatted MD5 digest directly from a supplied 4D text value.
CODEC_Encode_MD5_z creates a properly formatted MD5 digest directly from a referenced 4D BLOB value.
Both methods are immediately available for use upon installing the CODEC component. No plugins, external documents, or initialization is needed to begin using the methods. And, all of the code in the CODEC component is set up to handle even the most stringent 4D Compiler settings (e.g. All Variables are Typed).

AC3 Codec is a QuickTime component which allows the playback of AC3 audio inAVI files. The component uses the liba52 library for the AC3decompressing.
First you need DivX 5.1 which correctly load the AVI file into QuickTime. Once you have DivX 5.1 installed, if you are on MacOS X, drop "AC3 Codec.component" into /Library/QuickTime, or if you are on MacOS 8.x/9.x, drop "AC3 Codec" into your Extensions folder and restart.
Thats it ! Now open an AVI file that has AC3 audio, and play !

A52 codec is a simple wrapper around the open-source library liba52. The wrapper merely adapts the library to Apples CoreAudio framework. It also handles getting some information from the A52 stream and setting it, so other units farther down the line can be well informed.
Technical Information About A52 Codec
We have successfully been able to play 2-channel AC-3 files with Apple-provided software. Apples AC-3 AudioFile component has a bug which makes it unable to detect LFE channels, so applications will need to provide their own stream loading services for full decoding. The media-encoding application 3ivx Crush utilizes this component fully to successfully decode full 5.1 channel data.
The filter is constrained to decoding either stereo or full 5.1 sound. Applications like 3ivx Crush will then encode this using QuickTime 7 for full fidelity sound.

VideoSpace 2.7 is a useful free widget that calculates the disk space required for a given duration, codec, frame rate and audio setting. It works in both directions so you can calculate time to space or space to time as indicated by the direction of the arrow between the two input areas.
It is a video editors and the ideal companion to Final Cut Pro and Express:
- Bi-directional conversion (duration to disk space or disk space to duration)
- Settings for popular codecs from DV to uncompressed HD
- Settings for all common frame rates
- Settings for Audio (number of channels, sample rate and bit depth)
Major Features:
- Time to Space Calculation
- Select the desired codec, frame rate and audio settings (see below) then click in the left input box and type a duration of up to 999h59m59s.
- The disk space required will be calculated and displayed in the right hand box. VideoSpace will automatically choose the most suitable units (Megabyte, Gigabyte or Terrabyte) according to the size of the file.
- Space to Time Calculation
- Select the desired codec, frame rate, units and audio settings (see below) then click in the right input box and type a file size. When you press Return or Enter the time is calculated and displayed in the left hand box. The arrow will point left to indicate that VideoSpace is doing a space to time conversion.
- Audio Settings - Enter VideoSpace preferences by clicking the "i" button on the lower right of the widget which allows editing of the audio settings:
- Audio Channels: None, 2, 4, 6 or 8
- Sample Rate: 32kHz, 48kHz or 96kHz
- Bit Depth: 16 bit or 24 bit
