Now, rather than have one hour-long CD track, I would open them in Sound Studio, break them up into 3 sessions (divided at their 17-minute breaks), save them as separate AIFF files and record them to CD with Toast. This took a lot of manual work.
However, I recently discoveredafter downloading an audio book and writing it to CDthat iTunes would break the book into separate tracks by chapter when burning to CD (Im using iTunes 5).
So I discoverd Apples ChapterTool. This will allow a person to make chapters in my M4A files (the format I use to record the radio shows with Audio Hijack Pro).
And I also discovered the Join Together script, which I used to figure out how to send a command to the Terminal to run ChapterTool. (I am lost when it comes to the Terminal. I can change directories, but thats about it.)
So what I did was create an XML file (which ChapterTool uses to get the info on where to put the chapters in the audio file). Because I dont know where the breaks in the program will be some NPR programs break at the 17-minute mark, others vary sightlyI decided just to break them up into 10-minute increments. This allowed me to use a standard XML file for every program.
I then created the script Chapterize (some sections leveraged from the Join Together script).
Chapterize is a small AppleScript that adds chapters to M4A(AAC) files.
The script runs from within Audio Hijack Pro, but you could change it so it runs when you drop a file on it.
The ChapterTool folder and the XML file are both in the Music folder (thats where the script looks for them - you will have to change it so your XML file has the same name as what is in the script).
It saves a new, chapterized copy of the Audio file with _CHP added at the end, in the same folder as the original.
Since each Audio file may take a minute or two to process, I added the say commands so I could get an audio update of what is going on.
It also beeps 3 times and opens the destination folder when it is done.
I just ran this on 20 files and it worked great. I then imported one into iTunes and burned it and it worked - there were 6 files on the CD. One thing I need to remember though, is to set the Gap Between Songs in iTunes burning preferences to None since the gap may end up in the middle of a word or sentenceI dont want a 2-second gap in between the tracks.

The Apple Chapter Tool allows you to create chapters within an MPEG4 AAC file created with iTunes 4.9 or later. Chapters, at a minimum, must include a Start Time and one other attribute. Chapters can be added to podcasts, which can then be published to the iTunes Music Store.

At the users preference, it can also be set to automatically load a new verse each time Dashboard is launched, or to only be changed by clicking the new verse button (so one can ponder each proverb for a while). It features three buttons, one to view the previous verse, one for the next verse, and one to view a random verse.
This version is the biggest update in the (short) history of this widget... with the largest enhancement being almost a complete rewrite of the underlying framework to support skipping through Proverbs chapter by chapter. Graphical enhancements include a new icon, new fonts, smoother corners, etc.
Now in this version, it features five buttons: two new buttons to scan through the book chapter by chapter, two to scan through by verse, and one to view a random verse.

The picture above shows MovieChapterizer in action. Simply maove the playhead slider to a frame and click on the + button to add a chapter, giving it a name you choose. Add as many chapters as you want then save the movie.
Then open the movie in QuickTime Player or ReelBean and you'll see a popup menu to the right of the playhead slider. Click on the popup menu and you'll see the full list of chapters, as shown above. Select a chapter and QuickTime or ReelBean will jump straight to that section of the movie.
After quickly adding chapters to a movie with MovieChapterizer you'll never want to watch QuickTime movies again without having chapters available. At present MovieChapterizer can add chapters to a number of media formats, including QuickTime, AVI, MP3 and various others.

I assume you have a router in your intranet that connects your home computers to your ISP (cable modem, dsl, T1)? You will want to go into the settings of your router, which you can usually do by using a web browser to go to 192.168.0.1 (if your network is 192.168.0.*, or the equivalent).
Once in your router, you will setup Port Forwarding. Setup port 80 to point to the intranet IP address of your Mac.
You will then need the public IP of your house. The easy way to get this it to browse to http://whatismyip.com. You can then put this IP Address into any web-browser on the internet and it will go to your house, the router will then route the HTTP request (on port 80) to your mac, which will serve the webpage.
Alternatively, you can get an account at dyndns.org. This allows you to have a fake hostname that will point to your dynamic IP address. Therefore, you can register for something like: yourname.home.org and that will route to your mac.
