Brightness 1.1.2 brings you a convenient menu bar extra which allows you to control display brightness. It adds a menu bar item for adjusting your display's brightness. And, and if your PowerBook, MacBook or MacBook Pro has a backlit keyboard, Brightness adds a second menu bar item for adjusting it.

BrightnessSync 1.0.0.b0 is a fun and creative way to manage the brightness easily and fast.

When you own a new MacBook Pro with a Mini DisplayPort and a LED Cinema Display, you have noticed that you can control the brightness of the internal display of the MacBook Pro with the brightness keys of the keyboard. And in the Displays preferences, you can enable automatic brightness adjustment when ambient light changes for the internal display. To modify the brightness of the LED Cinema Display, you always have to use the Displays preferences, and the brightness of the external display can't be adjusted automatically.

BrightnessSync is a preference pane that eliminates this shortcoming: it enables automatic brightness adjustment for both the internal and the external display. And because the LED Cinema Display is more brilliant than the internal display of the MacBook Pro, BrightnessSync lets you set brightness levels for different ambient light conditions for the two displays independently. With this, there is nearly no need for manually adjusting the brightness for one of the both displays.

BrightnessSync was only tested with a MacBook Pro and a LED Cinema Display. It might not work with other hardware configurations, esp. with external displays that don't support software brightness control. Is uses undocumented, Apple internal system interfaces, so it might break with any update of Mac OS X.

Currently it is published as a beta version that requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). A final version will be released when Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) becomes available. BrightnessSync is published unter the conditions of the GNU General Public License. The source code for BrightnessSync is included on the download image.

darken / brighten is a powerful plugin for color effects whose features do sound a bit boring: it allows you to make parts of your clip darker or brighter.

Still, the plug has some amazing capabilities that elevate it above most of the other one-trick pixel-pushers. It allows parallel darkening and brightening with relative and absolute values, allowing you to apply some special effects that would usually require multiple passes (and multiple plug-ins).

The algorithm first applies the relative darkening or brightening, without applying any clipping to brightness. It then applies the absolute darkening/brightening, and only then clips the pixels value to the legal range.

Have you ever been close to a really large rgb display (like the ones they use in pop concerts)? If you look at the picture from close up you will notice that the picture consists of a multitude of red, green, and blue lights. RGB Trini emulates this effect.
RGB Trini will break down your clip into red, green, and blue lights. You can choose the algorithm it uses for this: either scatter the lights (like in more advanced displays) or use red, green, and blue columns.
With RGB Trini you will be able to emulate a really large display. Its a cool effect with few real appliances, we know. This plug was originally created for one specific purpose, and after we were finished we thought that its too cool to let you not have it.

scatter:
- controls how the red, green, and blue pixels are arranged. if scatter is on, the pixels will form diagonal lines, of scatter if off, they will form vertical lines.
brightness:
- since breaking down the clip into red, green, and blue lights usually takes away two thirds of the pictures brightness, you can increase overall brightness with this slider. note that this happens at the expense of color fidelity (the picture loses color contrast and turns monochrome white)

Flashlight flips your iPhones brightness up to full, and displays a full screen white rectangle. Slide your finger up and down to change brightness. Double tap exits. When you exit the application, your user settings for brightness are restored (although autobrightness might not work perfectly).
