YafRay is a powerful raytracer, under the LGPL license. It enables you to create fantastic images and animations of a photorealistic quality. Below can you find the most relevant features which YafRay offers.
Blender 2.42 is out and YafRay needed to be updated for working with it.
So we have new YafRay release, about a year later of 0.0.8 version. In fact, this is a maintenance release with few (but important) changes.
Greatest change is the project manager ;-) because Mathias Wein, a.k.a. Lynx, is at the head of YafRay development. Good luck, Lynx and thank you for getting involved in this insane project!
Enhancements:
- New SAH-kdtree for mesh objects, which is hopefully mature now. Improvements include:
- Smaller memory footprint
- More robust traversal, so holes in meshes should be history
- Faster ray-scene-intersection (depending on scene) due to new building algorithm (surface area heuristic and triangle clipping, preparing scene can take a bit longer though)
- Image loading code is more careful when trying to load files with unknown extension (crash-fixes)
- Added -p command line option for Linux to specify an alternative plugin path when rendering XML (yafray executable), YafRay also prints used plugin path and number of plugins loaded to console now.
- Changing number of threads with blender plugin now takes effect without restarting blender (blender 2.42 and later only)
- Fixed some minor bugs, code cleanups/updates for newer compilers and build-environments

After 20 years of active development under a proprietary government license agreement, the BRL-CAD solid modeling suite has just been released as Open Source software. BRL-CAD is one of the many legacies of the late Michael Muuss, author of ping. The package began on the PDP-11 and VAX 11/780--before the emergence of ANSI/ISO C language standards--and boasts one of the first parallel Ray tracers in existence. Today BRL-CAD has over 750,000 lines of source code. It incorporates both 3D modeling and rendering capabilities, and supports an API for user-developed geometric analysis applications. It continues to be developed and maintained by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory and its partners. Various portions of the package are distributed under the GPL, LGPL, GFDL, and BSD licenses.

Bitrate Pro is a media calculator for audio-visual professionals. Calculate data rate, file size or duration. There are file size presets for CD, DVD, HD DVD, Blu-ray Discs, and locally mounted disks.

There are data rate presets for DV, DVCPRO, CCIR 601, Avid DNxHD, Sony HDCAM, HDTV, PCM Stereo and Apple ProRes 422. You can even drag and drop any QuickTime supported media file from the Finder to import its properties.

Client Folder Maker utilizes a very simple approach to building up custom folder names, with support folders used in any job. While the script has a very small footprint, there is also a preferences pane which allows you to add, rename, or delete folders in the job hierarchy, as well as establish a target working folder which would be used for archives. The archives folder can be on your desktop, or on a share.

MolView X is the OSX version of MolView. Nearly all of the features of MolView have been ported. MolViewX now outputs POV-Ray files for rendering. MolViewX also outputs VRML files for Strata 3DPro and a number of UNIX based applications.

MolViewX can read several types of coordinate files and display ribbon, CPK, stick, ball&stick, and surface figures. The interface is completely interactive (i.e. no comand line input). There are countless options that control the display colors and characteristics.

There are several analysis tools such as neighbors, distance lines, hydrophathy plots, Edmunson wheel plots, B value plots (and color coded stick models), distance plots. In addition, the user can open 2 different structures and even perform 3D alignments on them.

Also, subsets of the structure can be stored as MOL files and be read in later.
