speak is a silly ‘throwaway’ program I created to speak text files from the command line on any MacOS X 10.3+ system using the default MacInTalk Voice.

HeckleWorks is a robotic heckle, jibe, insult and realtime personality evaluation generator.
HeckleWorks Pro can be used for filling evaluation forms, intermittent analysis while you work, or general heckling.

Speak.cgi is an AppleScript script to make your Mac speak. Not enough? How about from anywhere in the world? Thats right! Make your Mac speak from anywhere in the world! Right through a web page! Just type in the text, press Submit, and it says it!
Completly freeware. Source code is included in the package.

YSpeak is a free computer program for speech-disabled users. It is designed to assist in communicating in a variety of ways, reducing the input from the user to the minimum.

At its simplest, YSpeak will speak typed input, in any one of 25 different voices. Both male and female voices are provided. As the user types, YSpeak will speak the typed text either word-by-word, by line, by sentence, or when requested by the user. YSpeak will display the input text in any font, size, style, or color.

To allow someone else to read the text, YSpeak can also display the text inverted at the top of the screen, so that with the iBook display folded back, someone sitting opposite the user can read the text as it is input. To allow for a limited viewing angle, the text can also be displayed in negative.

YSpeak has two user-selectable built-in Dictionaries, one of the 1000 most-commonly used words in the English language, and one of over 25,000 words. In either Dictionary, as soon as the user types the first two letters of a word, YSpeak will invoke the Dictionaries to look up words starting with those letters, and display possible words in a separate window. The user can then select the word from this list to save typing the whole word.

YSpeak also tracks words as they are entered, and will attempt to predict the next word when one is entered. In doing this, it learns from the user.

YSpeak also has 5 separate word lists, each of which allows up to 35 words to be entered by typing a single key. Changing key lists is again invoked with a single key.

Speak Sender (Entourage) is an Entourage AppleScript that speaks the name of the sender of any incoming E-mail and also recognizes whether the incoming message is a "usual" email, or a "reply".
The Speech extension must be turned on for this script to work.
It would be wise to select a voice in the speech control panel that doesnt annoy you too much.
Enhancements:

I Speak Cantonese 1.0.6 is an application containing Chinese Web Pages that are encoded in Big5-HKSCS but misdeclared as Big5. This is a patch for Mozilla series applications, including Mozilla, Firefox, Camino, Thunderbird and Sunbird. It forces them to decode web pages as Big5-HKSCS encoded when they are identified or declared as Big5 encoded. It has no side effects since Big5-HKSCS is a superset of Big5. Web pages encoded in other schemes are unaffected. [It was named "Force Big5-HKSCS for Big5 in Mozilla"]

Silence Speaks 1.2 is an interesting screensaver with Artist Heather J. Tait's colorful combinations of words and art are featured works. This version includes 10 of the newly released works of Tait.
