Kids Art Centre 1.0. offers you an ideal bundle of computer stuff every young budding artist should have. Firstly, there's KiDoodle, a super easy-to-use program for painting and drawing. Secondly, there's 35 pieces of clipart to jazz up letters, cards or spreadsheets. Next, there's 10 different printable templates for all kinds of craft things, like aeroplanes, greeting cards, even web-pages! Finally there is a game, PaintWars, to keep young imaginations going. It's very similar to the classic Space Invaders. And last, but not least there's loads of ideas to get you started. - and the best bit of all: this is freeware.

Album Shaper strives to be the most friendly, easy to use, open source application for organizing, annotating, rotating, cropping, enhancing, stylizing, and sharing your digital photos the way you want to.
Album Shaper supports open formats like XML, JPEG, and XSLT.
Enhancements:
- Album Shaper has changed radically since the last version. Importing photos is several times faster. So is rotating and flipping photos, and its now lossless (meaning image quality never degrades) too! Lots and lots of bugs have been fixed, especially after an entire month of solid testing by over 18 dedicated beta testers. Internationalization support has improved leaps and bounds, impart thanks to the new help system that comes with this release. But most importantly, the photo editing side of Album Shaper has been completely rewritten. You can now quickly crop photos to standard dimensions (e.g. 5x7), drag out selections and move them around, scale selections in place, rotate selections, even drag selection edges and corners independently, before cropping. A new tilt-correction tool has been added that is remarkably easy and accurate to use. You can touch up photos with several advanced enhancing tools (color, contrast, and very sophisticated red-eye removal), in addition to using advanced levels and grain editors. For kicks Ive even thrown in a few manipulations (black + white, sepia coloring, inversion, color embossing, and an oil painting effect).

Poster Paint is a simple painting application for Mac OSX, a bit like Microsoft Paint for Windows. It can read and save files in BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG and TIFF formats. It has simple drawing tools but does not currently provide all the tools you might expect. New tools will probably be added to new versions.
The code is currently of early beta quality. There are a number of known bugs as noted in the bug list in the application. None of these crash the app (that I know of) or do anything bad to your Mac!
Poster Paint is a Universal Binary so will run natively on both PPC and Intel Macs.
Enhancements:
- Added icons for tools.
- Quick access to zoom via bottom right of window.
- Zoom menus can be customised easily.
- Undo options in Preferences.
- Upgrade to IconFamily 0.9.2 (removes 12 warning during compile).
- Zooming on images with alpha and/or with the grid showing is much much faster.
- Background for images with alpha and grid colour can now be customised.
- App can be quit if a new document sheet is showing.
- Crashes can be reported via built in crash reporter.
- Release now packaged as a pretty DMG.

The game contains 26 levels and 10 train levels (from Crystal Cave), with lots of logical riddles as well as action elements. Use boulders, different types of rocks and teleports to get gems and to escape from monsters. Great fun for the whole family!

Cave Story, or Doukutsu Monogatari, is a Japanese freeware PC side-scrolling platformer game developed by StudioPixel. It has been translated into English by Aeon Genesis Translations and will have an official translation script published sometime in the near future.

Cave Story is really one of those games that can be considered a masterpiece of game design. There are so many wonderful and classic gaming elements, that I cannot even begin to describe just one quality well enough to say “It is for this one reason alone that Cave Story is a great game.” There is just so much effort, originality and ingenuity behind this game and it really shows more and more as you play through it.

The developer, Pixel spent five years making this game as fun and as great as it is by adding solid controls, smooth gameplay, a great cast of characters and dialogue, an interesting plot, good music and beautiful old-school 2-D artwork.

And on top of all this added multiple endings, several boss battles, tons of items to collect, all kinds of added secret bonuses and special challenges, various and considerably different methods of playing through the game depending on your actions, competition ranking features and an extremely high replay value. For a freeware game it is fairly lengthy too.

Cave Story is by far the best freeware game I have ever had the honor of playing through and certainly one of the best games I’ve played.

The gameplay plays like a combination of various NES/Famicom games. Some that come to mind are Metroid, Castlevania, Megaman, Blaster Master and Monster Mash. Pixel’s art style and character design and boss battles are very reminiscent of Treasure games, like Gunstar Heroes, which happens to be one of my personal favorite games of all time.

So if you are a fan of any of these titles, then you are in for a real treat. It was a wonderful and addicting experience playing through it and I hope anyone reading this who has not already played this game will give it a shot.
You surely won’t be disappointed. It reminded me of why I enjoy playing videogames.
