System Language 1.1

AppleScript extension can determine what OS language is running. more>>
System Language is an Applescript extension that allows a scripter to determine what language is being used by the system on which the script is running.

A numerical language code, or the name of the language in plain text is returned based on how System language is called by the scripter. One possible use of System Language might be to allow scripts to automatically detect and adjust to running on systems in different languages.

Space-In-Time 1.1

Space-In-Time 1.1

Space-In-Time 1.1 provides users with a professional tool designed to analyze the space occupied by data on your disks and how it evolves over time, alerting you when the size of a disk or folder exceeds specified thresholds. more>>

Space-In-Time 1.1 provides users with a professional tool designed to analyze the space occupied by data on your disks and how it evolves over time, alerting you when the size of a disk or folder exceeds specified thresholds. Space-In-Time periodically records the used space for each folder on your disks, and saves a history of values and totals.

A graph of these values can be displayed, allowing you to quickly and easily see where space is being used on the disk (for example, System, Applications, Caches, Pictures, ...), and to see variations on the disk over time (caused by a disk or folder suddenly increasing in size). Space-In-Time makes managing and controlling space on your disks so much easier.

Space-In-Time gives a projection into the future of the space that will be occupied by a disk or a particular folder. This feature is particularly useful for estimating - for example - when the Time Machine disk will be full, when it will become necessary to backup your data, to cleanup some folders or caches, or to change a disk.

Moreover, Space-In-Time allows you to create alerts. When a defined threshold is reached (such as a full disk, or an overweighted folder), Space-In-Time can display a message on the screen or even send an e-mail.

Another great utilization of Space-In-Time is to quickly know on which disk you have space enough for a particular operation (a backup, for example), even if the disk isn't mounted.

Examples of use:

  • Survey particular folders: Downloads, Caches (Safari or others), etc.
  • Trace the evolution of data: e-mails, music in iTunes, pictures in iPhoto, movies in iMovie, etc.
  • Know how the disk is used, the distribution and evolution when multiple users share the same machine.
  • Be informed when a disk is at full capacity preventing it from working correctly.
  • Anticipate the needs of changing a disk, doing some backup or some cleaning up.

Major Features:

  1. Records the used space for each folder on any of your disks.
  2. Records, for each disk that you decided to survey, the space used by the disk itself as well as by each folder and subfolder.
  3. Displays the size and number of files contained in any folder, and at any time since Space-In-Time records the data.
  4. Displays the space occupied by any disk or folder and the variations over time.
  5. Displays graphs for used space, variations over time and distribution.
  6. Alerts with minimal and maximal thresholds.
  7. Alerts with messages on the screen, or sending an e-mail.
  8. Projection into the future of the space that will be occupied by a disk or a particular folder.
  9. Can use the information in your Time Machine backups to start creating a history of your disk space over the last months.

Enhancements:.

  • Enhancements:
    • Snow Leopard compatible.
  • Corrections:
    • Fixed a problem with Snow Leopard that could cause the System to ask an administrator password when disk scan are executed.
    • Fixed a problem that can crash when closing the main window.

IMSafer 1.0

IMSafer 1.0

IMSafer monitors the instant messenger conversations of your children more>>
It doesnt matter if your child logs on at home, at school, at the library or a friends house. If that computer is protected by IMSafer, your child is protected, and you, and only you, will receive notifications about their IM activity.

IMSafer also automatically will detect any new screen names your child decides to use, so you dont have to worry about them signing up for a new one without you knowing about it. IMSafer knows.

Thanks to smart uses of technology, the IMSafer Protection System monitors your childrens IM conversations constantly scanning for potentially dangerous situations, and notifies you only when a potentially dangerous situation arises.

The IMSafer Protection System will contact you via email when we detect a potentially dangerous IM conversation. Our application shows you excerpts of your childs conversation to give you meaning and context to the notifications you received.

All conversations are analyzed by the IMSafer Protection System for patterns and language which are known to be indicative of potentially dangerous situations. The IMSafer team has worked with law enforcement officials to identify and target the types of content about which they say parents should be the most concerned. The rules being used by the IMSafer Protection System are always being fine tuned and updated.

Once you have seen the notification and understand what the issue is, its up to you to decide how to proceed with your child. You will have a very good understanding of what happened in the conversation, and should talk with your child to help provide guidance.

Just as with the offline world, knowing who your kids online friends are is very important, knowing as much as you can about the people who are talking to your child online is very important. IMSafer allows parents to participate in the community by sharing their opinion about the appropriateness level of any person speaking with their own child.

The more parents who participate, the better IMSafer is for you because this feedback allows for proactive notifications when someone who is known in the IMSafer system is talking to your child. Providing feedback is completely anonymous, and requires only one mouse click.

MSafer monitors the instant messenger conversations of your children to help you balance protecting your children and respecting their privacy. The IMSafer service will only notify you when your child is engaged in a potentially dangerous conversation on IM.

At IMSafer, we have worked with law enforcement officials to learn how potential predators initiate, develop and maintain inappropriate online relationships with children. We are always working to fine tune and update our analysis engine.
1. Download IMSafer to the computer your children use by clicking the button below.
2. IMSafer will automatically detect and monitor your childs instant message and social networking activity.
3. IMSafer will notify you when your child is engaged in a potentially dangerous situation online.

ObjectiveCLIPS 1.7

ObjectiveCLIPS 1.7

ObjectiveCLIPS - Expert systems development w/Cocoa & CoreData more>>
ObjectiveCLIPS allows the creation of intelligent Cocoa applications with persistent object models and complex business rules.
Out of the box, Apple gives you the ability to write Cocoa applications with dumb passive data models using CoreData. However, there is no convenient way to express complex constraints and dependent values without writing custom business objects. Even if you write the custom objects, your code will likely be fragile for a variety of reasons. ObjectiveCLIPS allows you to write rules about your objects and execute actions when rules match.
Enhancements:
- Optimized for production use when the developer tools are not in use. This makes shipped applications much faster by eliminating unnecessary processing and data synchronization.
- In addition, extensive trace logging can be enabled from a checkbox on the CLIPS console window and many of the debugging capabilities are now lazily initialized to avoid paying for features that are not being used (such as synchronization of KBActivations).
- Also, the FScript bridge has been rewritten to eliminated redundant parsing by caching FScript expressions as Blocks.

BinkMachOPlayer 1.8b

BinkMachOPlayer 1.8b

BinkMachOPlayer - Play Bink files more>>
Bink is a "better-than-DVD" class codec - it compresses at higher quality than DVD at up to three times the playback speed! Bink uses up to 16 MB less memory at runtime than other codecs. It has been licensed for over 2,500 games since 1999!
Bink is a hybrid block-transform and wavelet codec that can encode your video using 16 different compression techniques (wavelet, DCT, motion compensation, a variety of vector quantizers, Smacker-style, etc). With all of these techniques in one codec, Bink can handle any type of video.
Bink also has a VBR psycho-acoustic based audio codec that is capable of 8:1 up to 20:1 perceptually lossless compression, so your audio will sound as good as your video looks. Other video codecs force you to license a separate audio encoder, but Bink has one built right in!
Another nice feature of Bink is that its technology was completely independently developed. We are not based on any MPEG or other committee standards (our techniques are quite different, in fact) of any kind, so the IP is safe, encumbrance-free, and (best of all) entirely royalty free. Thats why we develop our own codecs (both video and audio) - we dont want to be hindered by any third parties who see games as a side market rather than the target market. RAD has been developing video codecs for games since 1992 - our software codecs were being used before MPEG could even be played on a PC without a hardware decoder card.
The other big reason that we develop our own codec technology is because general video codecs are just not designed for games. They are designed to play movies in a nice little media player sandbox on a PC with little else going on. They use a ton of memory (Bink uses up to 16 MB less than other codecs), and they use almost all of the CPU. Bink is designed just for games - we arent trying to be a media player for the masses, or get integrated into some set top box, or stream video off the internet. Our only goal is great looking, easy to use, high performance video for your games.
The Bink SDK supports the Nintendo DS, the Xbox 360 and the Xbox consoles (using pixel shaders!), the Sony PlayStation 2 console, all versions of 32-bit Windows, the Xbox console, the Nintendo GameCube console, MacOS, MacOS X and GNU/Linux. It supports pixel shaders, DirectDraw, DIBSections, DirectSound, waveOut, Sound Manager, NGC AX, NGC MusyX, SDL_mixer, and the Miles Sound System.
Bink uses the YUV colorspace, so it can use overlays for hardware color conversion and smooth scaling on Win32 and Nintendo GameCube. On platforms with pixel shader support (DirectX 9, Xbox, and Xbox 360), Bink can use the GPU to do incredibly fast and incredibly high quality YUV to RGB conversions. Bink also includes a ton of hand-optimized assembly YUV to RGB colorspace blitters, so youll be able to access Binks output in any RGB format you like (32-bit RGB, 24-bit RGB, 16-bit RGB, etc).
As far as data rate goes, Bink really doesnt have a minimum - 256x192 animations look great at 50 kps for Nintendo DS and 1280x720s look awesome at 900 kps on Xbox and Xbox 360 for HD video. Bink is so fast, that it works great for the low-end, like the DS, and for the high-end, like the Xbox 360.
For such a high-end codec, Bink requires very little hardware resources - it will run on a machine as slow as a Nintendo DS (67 Mhz!), and will be screamingly fast on a modern P3, P4 or Athlon. Any Macintosh shipped in the last 10 years will run Bink great. All of the modern consoles can handle Bink easily (even the slow-ish PS/2 for which weve done massive assembly optimization to get Bink running wonderfully).
Because Bink is pretty different from other codecs, weve put together information describing the advantages of using Bink. You can even view the entire Bink development history to see the complete evolution of Bink. Finally, you can check out what other Bink customers think.
Think Bink!
Enhancements:
- Added support for the beta Xbox 360 hardware (June XDK).
- Fixed 8-bit audio playback on Nintendo DS - we still recommend using 16-bit audio, though.

Rootkit Hunter 1.3.4

Rootkit Hunter 1.3.4

Scanning tool to ensure you that youre clean of nasty tools more>> Scanning tool to ensure you that youre clean of nasty tools

Rootkit Hunter is a free and open source tool that scans your system for backdoors, rootkits, and local exploits by running tests like:
- MD5 hash compare
- Look for default files used by rootkits
- Wrong file permissions for binaries
- Look for suspected strings in LKM and KLD modules
- Look for hidden files
- Optional scan within plaintext and binary files

Enhancements
New:
- Added IntoXonia-NG rootkit check.
- Added Vampire rootkit check.
- Added support for TCB shadow files.
- Added Phalanx2 rootkit check.
Changes:
- The MAIL-ON-WARNING option must now exist in the configuration file. This avoids it being accidentally misspelt, and rkhunter then not notifying the user of any warnings.
- The DBDIR directory can now be read-only, after installation, provided that neither of the --propupd or --update options are specified, and that the --versioncheck option is not specified if ROTATE_MIRRORS is set to 1 in the configuration file.
- Renamed the cron job file created by the RPM spec file from 01-rkhunter to rkhunter. This will then run rkhunter after a prelink cron job (if one exists), and avoid some of the run prelink errors.
- The system startup file and directory tests have now been merged. The configuration file options LOCAL_RC_PATH and SYSTEM_RC_DIR have been replaced by the STARTUP_PATHS option, but, for compatability, they will still be recognised.
- The ALLOWPROCDELFILE configuration option, used to whitelist specific processes from the deleted files test, can now be followed by a colon-separated list of pathnames. The given process will then only be whitelisted if it is using one of the given pathnames.
- The --propupd option can now take an optional file, directory or package name after it. The argument can be a list of names. When used, then only the given file names will be updated in the rkhunter.dat file. Hopefully this will make things a bit quicker on slower machines. See the man page for more details. If using a package manager, then you must run rkhunter --propupd first.
- The Linux os_specific test has now been split into two separate tests - loaded_modules and avail_modules. The tests, however, are the same as before, they check the currently loaded kernel modules and the names of the available modules. A new configuration file option has been added, called MODULES_DIR, so that users can specify which directory, and sub-directories, are checked for bad module names, should rkhunter be unable to work out the correct location.
- The pathname of the debug file, if used, is now written to the log file.
Bugfixes:
- Cater for when ROOTDIR is explicitly set to /.
- Added an infinite loop check to the readlink.sh supplied scriptonly 64 levels of symbolic links are allowed now. Also cater better for top-level names and links, and file names with spaces.
- Improved the rsyslog remote logging check.
- The wrong error message was shown if the English (en) language file was missing.
- The hidden files and directories check wasnt checking for directories!
- Improved the O/S name detection. Previously the lsb-release file would have preference to any other file. This could result in some gibberish being given as the O/S name, rather than continuing to look for other release files. This has now been fixed.
- The tests against the SSH configuration file now accept the key/value pair to be separated by an equals sign as well as spaces and/or tabs.
- The file properties inode check did not work correctly when used on non-prelinked systems with the RPM package manager. The test is now only performed when prelinking is not being used, and the inode data is always obtained from the disk. This is a partial fix, as the test should run for scripts regardless of whether prelinking is used or not.
- The debug file is now created with a random name, and the file permissions are set to 600.

Pixinator 1.2

Pixinator 1.2

Pixinator - LCD screen pixel tester more>>
Pixinator is a simple tool to aid in identifying dead or stuck pixels in an LCD screen. It was created for those of us who cant stand having a stuck pixel in the middle of our workspace.
Pixinator was designed to be as straightforward, small, and portable a utility as possible. It is several hundred k smaller than similar products. Pixinator does away with useless features such as patterns or the ability to test any color and annoyances like registration screens or pop up windows. Plus, Pixinator is a bit more fun, allowing fading between colors in addition to immediate color switching.
Enhancements:
- Added the ability to automatically cycle and fade between colors.
- Hopefully addressed a user-reported problem where multiple monitors werent being used on an ATI Radeon PCI video card.
