beep is a truly simple utility to make a beeping sound from the command line.

Useful in scripts to alert the user to the fact something has happened, or perhaps after a sleep command to indicate the sleep has finished.

Instructions:
Copy the binary to somewhere on your path, eg. /usr/local/bin, and type either:
beep to get a single beep, or beep f to beep n times.

Prerequisites:
I developed this using gcc under OS X 10.4.2 (powerpc-apple-darwin8-gcc-4.0.0). Thus the download contains a binary for OS X, but this should be portable to any OS that has the CURSES library available.

Battlegram is a client that connects to the public chat interface ("Chat") of Blizzard Entertainments Battle.net Internet gaming service. It enables Mac users of Battle.net to communicate with other Battle.net users without having to use one of Blizzards game clients.
Battlegram only connects to the Chat part of Battle.net and does not even touch the private binary part of Battle.net. It will only connect to a recognized Battle.net realm, of which there are four at the time of this writing (USWest, USEast, Europe, and Asia).
Battlegram is not a Battle.net hacking tool and will not perform anything currently forbidden by Battle.nets Terms of Use.

Enhancements:

- Finally fixed the packet fragmentation bug. Previous versions had problems with commands sent out in separate packets.

ACE is a platform-independent, collaborative text editor. It is a real-time cooperative editing system that allows multiple geographically dispersed users to view and edit a shared text document at the same time.

ACE is a program that allows multiple geographically dispersed users to view and edit a shared text document at the same time, thus facilitating efficient teamwork.

According to available knowledge, there is only one such application; it works well and has reached widespread use. Unfortunately, it is limited to the Mac platform. ACE is the first collaborative text editor that runs across all major platforms, including Windows, Linux, and Mac.

First of all, ACE is a simple text editor with standard features such as copy/paste and load/save. Multiple documents can be edited at the same time. Furthermore, ACE can share documents with other users on different computers, connected by communication networks.

ACE also discovers users and their shared documents automatically in a local area network. Users can opt to join any discovered shared document. For all this, no configuration is necessary because it is based on zero-conf networking (also known as Bonjour or Rendezvous).

Once a user has joined a shared document, he can freely edit the document at the same time with all participants as a virtual team. So-called awareness information helps to avoid unnecessary conflicts (i.e. two users editing at the same time and text location).

Awareness information includes the cursor and the currently selected text of the other users marked with the color of the respective user.

The heart of the application is a concurrency control algorithm based on the innovative concept of Operational Transformation, which allows for lock-free editing of a document by multiple users. It imposes no editing constraints and resolves all conflicts automatically.

The algorithm overcomes one of the most significant challenges in designing and implementing real-time collaborative editing systems, namely consistency preservation. That is to ensure that at quiescence (i.e. when no messages are in transit) the shared document is identical for all participants.

This algorithm was implemented as part of the semester project and forms the foundation of ACE.

ACE builds upon open technologies such as BEEP (RFC 3080) and zero-conf networking; all this leaves the possibility open to communicate even with different applications that understand the public protocol of ACE.

AlertsModule is a REALbasic module that allows creation of Standard Alert dialogs, with full control over their appearance.

AlertsModule allows customisation of the number of buttons, button labels, which button is the default and which is the cancel button, whether or not to display a help button, whether the alert dialog should be movable, whether to beep when showing the dialog, and more.

AlertsModule also contains some useful utility routines, such as checking whether the Appearance Manager is currently installed, and creating PStrings of the exact needed length for a given string.

EmptyTrashFast does one thing and only one thing and with very little fanfare... EmptyTrashFast empties the trash on all mounted volumes... quicker than the Finder, without any warning messages.

If an open or busy file is found, it is skipped... locked files ARE deleted without any warning. The only error indicator is a System beep - one or more files were not deleted.

Messages to Disk is an Entourage script which offers fast save of messages to disk as text files.
The script offers choice of kind of text file.
Enhancements:
- Always prompts for location of folder for storing messages.
- Allows choice of text file types: BBEdit, Tex-Edit Plus, Simple Text. You can add other program names and creator codes to the lists where "creatorNames" and "creatorTypes" are defined.
- Gives progress report after storing each message, with option to turn off. Beeps twice when all files have been stored.
- Fixed bugs in routine for making file name when first choice is already in use. Would fail if name was exactly 31 characters; got stuck in repeat sometimes trying to find valid name.
- Added code to re-wrap (remove hard line endings from) the message text. If you dont want to do this, change the property "rewrapping" to false. This allows your text editor to soft wrap the text to your window size.
- Rather than including entire source with miscellaneous headers, I select the recipients, from address, subject, sent date, and the body of the message. This makes for a "cleaner" text file with less extraneous stuff at the top.
