Battery Hen is a free Mac Dashboard widget that will display a hen showing battery usage by eggs.Battery Hen comes in two varieties: caged and free range.

Battery Drain is a free utility which allows users to charge or drain their batteries to a certain amount for long-term storage.

When storing lithium-ion batteries for an extended period of time, Apple recommends storing them with a 50% charge. Battery Drain allows you to set the charge amount and will automatically shut down the computer when the battery has reached the proper charge.

Battery Monitor is a simple application that records the performance of your battery over a discharge cycle by writing the power and estimated remaining time to a text file every minute. You can then use this list of values to see if it works as it should. (E.g., does it discharge fully or does it break down prematurely?)

Note that this tool does nothing magical. It simply records to a file what you can see when you use a stop watch and look at the battery indicator in the control strip or menu bar.

Since the values of every minute get recorded, you can use the output also to iport into a spreadsheet for making nice graphs. Its up to you to figure out how to do that.

Apple Battery Update 1.4 is a useful and popular utility to determine if your battery needs this update. Note: If the Pack Lot Code is 0003, the update is not necessary or has already been applied.

coconutBattery is a tool that reads out the data of your notebook-battery (iBook/Powerbook). It gives you live feedback, whats going on in your battery (not only a snapshot like other tools).
