Impromptu is a Mac OS X programming environment for sound artists and composers with an interest in live or interactive programming. Impromptu is a Scheme language environment, a member of the Lisp family of languages.
Time plays a major role in the Impromptu environment allowing accurate realtime scheduling of events and code blocks. Impromptu is a dynamic environment designed specifically for the creation and manipulation of running programs in live performance.
Impromptu is a programmable AudioUnit host. A powerful environment for creating AudioUnit graphs of arbitrary complexity with precise programmatic control over individual AU nodes. Musical material can be precisely scheduled for performance by any AudioUnit instrument node.
Quartz drawing routines can be applied with the same temporal accuracy as audio material allowing composers to tightly integrate audio and visual components.
Enhancements:
- New grim reaper - by default this will cull any scheduled events that are delivered later than a set time (defaults to 3.25 seconds). If you want to turn off the reaper set the reaper time to 0. By default the reaper will not cull callbacks, although you can set it to do this by checking the appropriate flag. You can set this stuff in impromptu preferences.

Frequenzstrom 0.5 is a superior and simple to use tool which modulates a sine as an amplitude envelope onto a given signal.
The frequency can be set by two methods:
- 'Play' the frequency with a midi device.
- Ste the Frequency with a slider.
The frequency can vary between 0.5 and 12000Hz. The plugin is something in between a filter and a synthesizer. Anyway you look at it the results are sometimes unpredictable, especially when used on material that has a high tonal content. My favorite way to use it is to use on drumloops. It's quite difficult to describe how it sounds and i'm sure there are still many fun things that I) haven't tried yet. Please experiment.

- Just drop the unzipped file named Frequenzstrom.component into ${HOME}/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
- Launch your AudioUnit Host

DOSBox is a DOS-emulator that uses the SDL-library which makes DOSBox very easy to port to different platforms. DOSBox has already been ported to many different platforms, such as Windows, BeOS, Linux, Mac OS X.
Its statically compiled against SDL and built upon the Cocoa, Carbon, OpenGL, QuickTime, and AudioUnit frameworks.
DOSBox also emulates CPU:286/386 realmode/protected mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, Tandy/Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA graphics, a SoundBlaster/Gravis Ultra Sound card for excellent sound compatibility with older games.
This is a rather trivial port of DOSBox to MacOS X. What if you just want to play some old games? This port of DOSBox may be your answer.
Its statically compiled against SDL, is built upon the Cocoa, Carbon, OpenGL, QuickTime, and AudioUnit frameworks, and thus, is only MacOS 10.3.x (or Panther) compatible. It has partial protected mode emulation, a subset of VESA 1.2 functionality (800x600x8) via S3 Trio emulation, and internal modem support via the SDL_net framework.
You can "re-live" the good old days with the help of DOSBox, it can run plenty of the old classics that dont run on your new computer.
