AstronomyPictureOfTheDay 3.1
Downloads the latest image from the Astronomy Picture of the Day site and sets it as your desktop background more>> Volumizer provides two convenient mechanisms for accessing your mounted disks without explicitly switching to the Finder.
If you check the "Display Volumes Menu" checkbox, Volumizer displays a status item in the right end of the menu bar. It will show menu items representing each mounted volume on your machine. If you select one of these items, a Finder window showing the root of that volume will be displayed on the screen. If you hover over the item (on Mac OS X 10.3 or higher) a tooltip will show the path to the item.
If you check "Display Volumes In Dock" each mounted volume will be represented by an icon in the dock. A single click will open a Finder window showing the root of that volume. The dock icons menu also includes an Eject command. While these icons are running processes, they consume very little memory and no CPU unless you interact with them.<<less

Astro IIDC 4.05.03
Astro IIDC is designed to work with a wide variety of low and high end, color or monochrome, 8 or 16 bit FireWire 400 or FireWire 800 cameras. more>>
Astro IIDC 4.05.03 is designed to work with a wide variety of low and high end, color or monochrome, 8 or 16 bit FireWire 400 or FireWire 800 cameras. It has a simple intuitive interface, can record movies, grab frames, grab averaged frames, grab sums of frames, has extensive Altivec / SSE3 optimization for real time processing for flat field, dark frame, image alignment and stacking, supports movie recording as fast as 240 frames per second to disk or as long as 1 hour per frame.
The application utilizes industrial strength Altivec / SSE3 optimized IIDC/DCAM Version 2.0 Framework to control the camera and extracts the raw bayer or monochrome images from the CCD. "Astro IIDC" requires a PowerPC G4 / G5 Desktop or Powerbook OR any MacIntel.
Major Features:
- Simple and easy to use interface in a single camera control window as shown in the screen snap shot to the right. All camera control adjustments are done with a full size scrollable live preview image so there is none of this modal QuickTime tiny 160x120 pixel image approximations nonsense, pure WYSIWYG.
- Works with most inexpensive monochrome or color FireWire web type cameras (see list at page bottom for details).
- Works with most high end 640x480 to 4096x4096 size, 8 and 16 bit per pixel, monochrome or bayer color FireWire 400 and Firewire 800 cameras (see list at page bottom for details).
- Utilizes ASC's industrial strength, preemptively multi threaded, Altivec / SSE3 enhanced IIDC/DCAM framework code, with no dependency on QuickTime or other FireWire drivers for camera control. "Astro IIDC" directly accesses the FireWire camera and extracts the raw bayer or monochrome CCD data. No YUV color aliasing as decode the bayer color data using own custom 2x2, 3x3 and 5x5 kernels.
- For inexpensive FireWire cameras provides extended CCD exposure times from as fast as 1/3000th of a second down to 1.029 seconds, without any hardware modifications. That is 31 times more light gathering capability than anyone else's software and adds a new dimension for lower light imaging.
- For high end FireWire cameras provides CCD exposure times from 1/10000 of a second to 60 minutes (depending on the camera), Region Of Interest and records movies as fast as 240 frames per second.
- Supports user definable Average and Spot Color Balance, allowing you to balance against any color you want, not just white.
- Single click to Grab a frame, Grab a user defined burst of frames and average them (for noise reduction) or Grab a burst of frames and sum them (for enhancing low light imaging). Supports frame grabs in TIFF (Mono8, Mono16, RGB24 or RGB48), PNG (8 or 16 bit), BMP, PhotoShop, PICT, JPEG and FITS (Mono8 or Mono16 bit) file formats.

Weather Desk 1.0b2
Weather Desk - Weather on your desktop and menubar more>>
Many of the planned, incomplete, and even some of the completed features that will be available in the full version have not been included here. Although we look forward to introducing these exciting features to users in the near future, that is not the intent of this release.
Our hope is that all users of this software will aid its development by notifying us of any bugs, inconsistencies, and conflicts that arise while using Weather Desk.
This will allow us to refine the core of the software, allowing future versions to be free of major bugs.
Weather Desk also allows you to load images of Earth and the moon.
Main features:
- First Launch Open the Weather Desk application before using the menu extra for the first time. Currently, nearly all error-checking and initial set-up is done from within the main application. This will change in the future, but for now...
- Menu Extra Before launching the menu extra, we recommend disabling "Show time connected," and "Show status while connecting" in the remote access menu. The remote access menu, if it is enabled, appears as a "telephone" icon in your status bar. The status bar does not handle multiple animations very well, and may "flash" if you leave these options on.
- Locations To add, edit, or remove locations, open the Stations window by selecting "Edit" from the "Stations" menu.
- Groups Weather Desk allows you to assign each location to a group. For example, if several cities in our list were nearby, we could place them together in a group called "Local." To edit your groups, simply select "Edit" from the "Groups" menu in the Stations window.
- Icons Setting different icons for different locations allows you to quickly find stations when switching to another location. It also looks nice. To add or change an icon, simply drag & drop any file or folder onto the image well in the Add/Edit window. Note: If you drop an image file onto the well, the image will be used and not the file icon.
- APOD The astronomy picture of the day will load automatically when you select "A.P.O.D." from the toolbar. Clicking on the Preview button will load a high-resolution version of the image in Preview.app (or your default image-handling application). Note: This is a cached image. If you would like to save this image, simply select "Save as..." or "Export" from the "File" menu in Preview.
- Earth/Moon Viewer This feature allows you to load images of Earth and the moon. You can view the Earth as it appears from any of the locations in your list, from a set of coordinates (lat/long), from the night side, from the day side, or from the moon.
- As with the APOD, saving an image requires that you export/save in Preview. The larger images sizes will not be entirely visible in Weather Desks window and can be viewed in preview.
- Note: the live images do not show cloud cover/activity. They do show surface terrain, city lights (night side), and other details. Cloud cover, water vapor, and similar features will be available in a future update via the "Satellite Imagery" feature.
- Nexrad Radar The radar feature in this version is limited, but will allow radar images to be loaded from any radar site in the US. A future update will allow you to choose from at least 6 types of radar imagery and will have, if possible, international support.
- Desktop Images This release of Weather Desk can automatically set your desktop to an updated image of the Earth (while the menu extra is open). You can set the altitude, image size, update frequency, and image source from the Preferences window.
- New Buttons You should notice that several small buttons now appear below any image view. These allow you to open the image in Preview, set it as your desktop image, or visit the home page of the service from which they are being downloaded. Not all of these options are available for each image.
