Apple Mac Mini SMC Firmware Update 1.0 is an update to solve boot problems with the Mac mini. The updater application will be installed in the /Applications/Utilities folder and will launch automatically after restart.
Please follow the instructions in the updater application to complete the update process.
Here are the instructions within the updater, as they appear for the Mac mini Updater:
To update the SMC firmware on your Mac mini:
- Quit all other open applications.
- Click Restart in the Mac mini SMC Firmware Update window and wait for your computer to restart.
- The SMC firmware update starts automatically. A status bar indicates the progress of the update. During the update your computer fans will run at full speed, but will return to normal once the update completes.
- Important: Do not interrupt the update.
- Your computer restarts automatically when the update is completed and opens the Mac mini SMC Firmware Update.
- Click OK. The SMC firmware is now up-to-date.
- If these instructions appear on your screen again, the SMC firmware update was not successful. Repeat steps 2 and 3.

The SMC Firmware Update 1.0 is a System Management Control (SMC) firmware update for certain Intel-based computers, including Mac mini (Early 2006) computers. Tip: Print or write down these instructions before you begin installing the update.
There are two parts to this process: Installing the firmware update application, and using the firmware update application to install the SMC Firmware Update.
1. Download the SMC Firmware Update 1.0, which is available at Apple Downloads.
2. Quit open applications, which are marked in the Dock with a small triangle.
3. Double click the SMC Update.pkg file.
4. Click Continue after reading the licensing agreement, then click Agree if you accept the terms.
5. Click Install to install the update application.
6. After the software is successfully installed, click Close to start the updater application. (If you inadvertently skipped this part, you can find the updater in /Applications/Utilities.)
7. Read the onscreen firmware update installation instructions, then click Restart to proceed.
As your computer starts, the SMC will be updated. Your computers fans will run at full speed during the update but will return to normal once the update completes. The computer will restart again once the firmware update is complete. Important: Do not interrupt the update process.
After your computer restarts a second time, you should see a message stating that the update was successful. Click OK to continue.
