X-Plane 9.40b5 is one of the best flight simulator for personal computers. With the most realistic flight model available for home users, X-Plane is not just a game--it is an engineering tool that can be (and is) used to predict the flight characteristics of nearly any aircraft with incredible accuracy.
X-Plane is the ultimate general-aviation flight sim. With hardware-accelerated texture-mapped graphics, dynamic speech synthesis, full-planet terrain-mapped scenery, helicopters, and the widest range of airplanes available in flight simulation, X-Plane will keep your eyes popping out for hours.
Major Features:
- The most realistic is also the most accessible: The same engine used to drive the FAA-certified simulator is available on your desktop PC, whether it's running Windows, Mac OS, or Linux.
- The simulator of choice for industry leaders: Take a closer look at X-Plane and learn what companies like NASA, Boeing, Cessna, and Van's Aircraft, and Carter Aviation already know
- Real-time flight physics: X-Plane doesn't just regurgitate how an airplane's designer thinks a plane will fly--it calculates for itself the lift, drag, and moment on every surface of the plane individually at every point in time. The result is a flight model more realistic than anything else out there.
- The key is blade element breakdown. X-Plane reads in the geometric shape of any aircraft and then figures out how that aircraft will fly. It does this by an engineering process called "blade element theory," which involves breaking the aircraft down into many small elements and then finding the forces acting on each little element many times per second
- Choose from thousands of add-ons: The X-Plane community is huge, and the X-Plane simulator is incredibly flexible. Together, they make a great team. There are thousands of free aircraft available for download on the web, and thousands of free plug-ins and custom scenery packages--all created by X-Plane users.
- With over 750,000 copies sold, you're sure to find X-Plane users interested in the same aircraft you are. From minutely detailed scenery to painstakingly created aircraft, X-Plane users have donated many, many hours to enhancing the community
- X-Plane also has detailed failure modeling, with multitudes of systems that can either be failed manually at an instructor's command, or randomly when users least expect it! Users can fail instruments, engines, flight controls, control cables, antennae, landing gear, or any of dozens of other systems at any moment.
- While on its own X-Plane represents the world's most comprehensive flight simulator, the installation DVD also comes with Plane-Maker (allowing users to create custom aircraft or modify existing designs), Airfoil-Maker (allowing users to create airfoil performance profiles), and Weather-Briefer (to give users a weather briefing before the flight when using real weather conditions downloaded from the Internet).
- X-Plane is extremely customizable, allowing users to easily create textures, sounds, and instrument panels for their own airplane designs or for the planes included with the sim.
- X-Plane's accuracy (in flight model), scope (in aircraft and terrain coverage), versatility (in aircraft type and weather conditions), add-on programs (in aircraft and scenery editors), customizability, downloadable aircraft, and downloadable scenery make it the ultimate flight simulation experience for Macintosh, Windows, and Linux platforms.

cocoaNEC 2 0.55
cocoaNEC is a full featured and advanced Mac OS X application intended primarily for the design and modeling of antennas. more>> cocoaNEC 2 0.55 is a full featured and advanced Mac OS X application intended primarily for the design and modeling of antennas.
cocoaNEC is a Universal Binary Cocoa based application. It runs natively on both Intel based and PowerPC based Macintosh computers that use Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or newer. The application is free.
- You can now quickly check if your copy of cocoaNEC is up to date. Please note that you have to manually check for updates. cocoaNEC will not pester you by itself. When directed to do so with the Check for Updates menu item, it will check the running version of cocoaNEC against a web file.
- NC now includes the following calls.
- arc_
- helix_
- wire_
- patch_
- rectangularPatch_
- triangularPatch_
- quadPatch_
- multiPatch_
- voltageFeedAtSegment
- currentFeedAtSegment
- networkAtSegments
- transmissionLineAtSegments
- seriesLoadsAtSegments
- parallelLoadsAtSegments
- impedanceAtSegments
- conductivityAtSegments
- In prior versions of cocoaNEC, the Spreadsheet and NC methods had used independent mechanisms to generate a NEC-2 card deck. From version 0.55 onwards, a Spreadsheet model no longer generates a card deck. Instead, the Spreadsheet generates an NC program, and the NC program is executed to produce the actual card images. This reduces the amount of code that I need to maintain. If you have an existing Spreadsheet model that had worked under version 0.54 but no longer works under version 0.55, please revert the application back to v0.54, which is still available in the Download page, and please drop me an e-mail.
- Each Spreadsheet row now includes a "transform" column. When the transform cell is empty, the row behaves as before. However, when a transform variable is included, it is associated with a NEC-2 "GM" card. This allows a geometry element to be rotated or translated. Just as with ordinary variables and network and transmission line elements, the transform variables are defined in its own drop down sheet. Each geometry element can now be defined as before without a transform, or it can include a transform which it can share with other geometry elements.
- The spreadsheet interface now has a Show Cards button. This can be used to inspect the card deck or NC program from a failed run.
- More examples have been added to the examples folder. New files include simple spreadsheet models for an arc and a helix, and an NC model of a Log Periodic Dipole Array by Doug, K4DSP that is defined with recursive function calls.

MacStumbler - Lists all 802.11 (Airport) wireless networks in area more>>
Additionally, MacStumbler can be used for "wardriving", which involves co-ordinating with a GPS unit while traveling around to help produce a map of all access points in a given area.
MacStumbler emulates the functionality of projects like netstumbler, bsd-airtools, and kismet.
Its meant purely for educational or auditing purposes, although many people enjoy using these types of programs to check out how many WiFi (wireless) networks are in their area, usually known as "war driving".
MacStumbler only works with AirPort wireless cards, it does not (yet) work with any PCMCIA or USB wireless devices.
To enhance the scanning results, many wardrivers like to use external antennas to increase the range. The new iBooks and Titanium PowerBooks both contain an antenna built into the screen (which can provide much better range than standard PCMCIA cards by themselves). This built-in antenna is directional, I find my iBook gets the best signal when the screen is facing away from the access point.
Enhancements:
Fixed bugs:
- "Unexepectedly quit" error at startup
- Window correctly remembers position
- Toolbar remembers configuration

EyeHome Updater 1.8
The EyeTV 200 lets users watch TV on their monitors. more>>
The EyeTV couldnt be easier to use: attach a coaxial cable or antenna to it, and then connect it to your Macs FireWire port (the unit draws its power over FireWire, so theres no need for a power adapter). Then use the Setup preference pane to automatically tune in the channels.
To watch TV, use the full-size infrared remote control or the on-screen controller. Changing channels with the EyeTV 200 is much faster than with its predecessor. You can also connect the signal from a digital-cable or satellite TV decoder to the EyeTV, but it cant change channels -- you need to do that with your decoder box.
Bundled with a software package of the same name, the EyeTV can now wake your Mac from sleep or start it up for a scheduled recording. While this worked flawlessly on a dual-867MHz G4 desktop model, it was problematic when tested on a G4 iBook.
One of the EyeTV 200s biggest advantages over the USB version is that it captures video in MPEG-2 instead of MPEG-1. MPEG-2 is the encoding format used for DVDs and satellite TV: it takes up a lot of room, but it has great quality. You can choose from Standard (1.8GB per hour) or High quality (2.7GB per hour) encoding or Super Video CD (726MB per hour), which captures a smaller image at lower bit rates. A Custom setting lets you choose the resolution, bit rate, constant or variable bit rate, and audio settings.
