TiVoRemote 0.23

TiVoRemote 0.23

TiVoRemote - A TiVo remote control for the iPhone/iPod Touch. more>> TiVoRemote - A TiVo remote control for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Series 3 TiVos, and TiVoHDs, now have an open tcp port for sending remote control commands. This program puts a user interface on top of that, allowing you to control your TiVo with your iPhone or iPod Touch.
(Unfortunately, this cannot control volume, or turn a television on/off. I believe that this could work with an IP addressable IR/RF blaster, or maybe if the television was on the network.)
System requirements:
- iPhone or iPod Touch

Robot Controller 1.7b3

Robot Controller 1.7b3

Robot Controller is a program created to monitor and test Lego Mindstorms robots. more>>
Robot Controller 1.7b3 is a program created to monitor and test Lego Mindstorms robots. It is the ideal companion to Dave Baums NQC.

Robot Controller allows you to:

  1. Download firmware to the RCX
  2. Control the three motor outputs
  3. Set up the three sensor inputs and monitor their values
  4. Download programs to the five program slots and run them
  5. Set up the datalog and save it on your disk in readable form
  6. Send and receive messages to and from your robot
  7. Examine the use of the RCX memory
  8. Read and change the values of the RCX variables
  9. Control the RCX with AppleScript.

Robot controller only works on Mac OS X version 10.1 or later. It works both with the USB IR tower and with the serial IR tower (provided you have a serial port with a driver). Programs for download must be in .rcx format, as produced by nqc; firmware for download must be in .lgo format, as included in the Lego 2.0 beta SDK.

Known problems:

  • There seems to be a problem using one of the two USB channels on my G4. If your USB tower shows up in the preferences, but then doesnt work, try it in the other channel. I think this is a bug in IOKit, and I have reported it to Apple.

Enhancements:

  • Fixed datalog dragging bugs.
  • Added preference for datalog filename.

Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.1 or later.

DVICO Remote - support for DVICO IR remote control more>>
Adds support to your Mac for the USB IR remote control that comes with current Dvico/Ultraview TV cards.
Allows you to use your remote to control most applications on your Mac.
You need to have an USB IR receiver as it is currently delivered with the TV cards from DVICO. You do not really need the remote control itself. As long as you have the receiver, pretty much any remote control will work.
Note: The UltraView DVB-T cards are re-branded DVICO cards and therefore work as well.
Enhancements:
- Added new settings to the preference pane. (See Readme)
- Note: Requires OS X 10.4 or greater.

CornerFix 1.1.0.1

CornerFix 1.1.0.1

CornerFix 1.1.0.1 is yet another extremely useful utility for everyone. It actually corrects for color dependent vignetting in digital images more>>

CornerFix 1.1.0.1 is yet another extremely useful utility for everyone. It actually corrects for color dependent vignetting in digital images. All digital cameras are some extent subject to this; current generation sensors are highly IR sensitive, so there needs to be a IR filter somewhere. But the combination of sensors and IR filters also cuts into the red part of the spectrum, and do so in a way that depends on the angle through which the light bends as it travels to the sensor. So red gets cut more in the corners. Most DSLR's do this a bit - take a picture of a white wall and you will probably see it, although many cameras correct internally to a greater or lesser extent.

Leica's M8 has a particular problem in this regard. Historically, one of the advantages that rangefinder cameras had was that the back of a rangefinder lens can be a lot closer to the film surface than is the case for a film SLR - the SLR needs space for the mirror, which a rangefinder doesn't have. So in the film world, rangefinder lenses had a lot more design freedom that SLR lenses - wide-angle lenses that on a SLR had to be reverse telephoto designs could be normal designs on a rangefinder.

M8's can correct for this problem themselves, but there are two issues for users - firstly, your lenses must be coded, which means that it must be a Leica lens, either new enough to have been coded when it was manufactured, or one that has been sent to the factory to be upgraded. So anyone with a non-Leica lens or one that can't be upgraded is out of luck, unless they somehow code the lens themselves. The second problem is that the M8's correction is "one size fits all"; it's designed for average situations, and sometimes doesn't do well in unusual lighting.

CornerFix allows the cyan corners problem to be corrected for any lens, in more or less any lighting situation, by post processing the camera's image file. The right hand side of the main window in the screen shot shows the corrected image. CornerFix is available for the Mac and for Windows. It's free and open source, released under the GPL. Note however that image must be a DNG formatted file - CornerFix doesn't work with TIFF or JPEG files.

Enhancements: Jul 15 2009

  • Devignetting application for Leica M8 digital cameras;
  • Fixed the "cyan corners" problem when using wide lens with IR filters and decodes data in the M8's MakerNotes

RCXLink 1.2

RCXLink is a simple and salutary class that allows the operation of Lego Mindstorm RCX brick using REALbasic. more>>

RCXLink 1.2 is a simple and salutary class that allows the operation of Lego Mindstorm RCX brick using REALbasic.

RCXLink is not for programming the RCX, for this task you can use the RIS software included with Mindstorm (for Windows) or the excellent NQC language by Dave Baum.To use this class you need the Lego Mindstorm Robotics Invention System and a serial port adapter to connect the Lego IR tower to your Macintosh. Also it's neccesary you download the firmware to the RCX brick, the firmware is included in the Mindstorm CD. If you don't have a Windows machine (or Virtual PC) you can download the software using NQC. It's possible to make very cool things by creating two programs to cooperate, one built in REALBasic and another one in NQC.

RCXLink class is implemented as a subclass of the RB serial control, to use it, drag the class to a window, give it a name and use this name to access the control properties and methods. Enjoy!I included a sample RB program to show you the use of the class.

Tonto 1.4.4

Tonto 1.4.4

Tools for the Pronto line of remote controls. more>>
Tonto is a set of tools for the popular Pronto line of programmable remote controls manufactured by Philips. The main tool in Tonto is a graphical editor similar to ProntoEdit.

Though ProntoEdit is a capable editor, it is limited to running on Windows. Tonto also includes a developers library and documentation for those interested in either extending Tontos capabilities or creating their own CCF files.

It is the goal of this project to develop not just a better editor, but to also provide a rich, extensible platform for progamming the Pronto family of remotes.

Planned features include a complete CCF developers API, Module support for user-extensions to the Tonto user interface, online access to a database of IR codes and expert IR analysis tools for the creation of clean codes and discovery of discrete codes.

A module is in development that will load TV listings from the web and automatically build and install panels into the Pronto.

Most of the CCF developers API is complete. The IR recording capabilities of Tonto are significantly better than ProntoEdit. Upload/Download reliability is about the same. The best way you can help is through testing and frequent feedback and suggestions.
