You may use US Academic as a hopefully better keylayout instead of U.S. Extended, included in MAC OS X as the default Apple multinational keyboard layout. US Academic covers all the characters defined in the Latin -1 Supplement, Latin Extended-A, Latin Exended-B, Latin Extended Additional, IPA Extensions and Combining Diacritical Marks (CDM); and the key combinations are easy to remember if you are familiar with this type of keyboard layouts.
