VirtualSpeaker 1.2.1 is capable of fixing problems with the handling of sound on the Apple G4 Cube when the external USB speakers are not connected (since the Cube does not have a built in sound device). The extension runs under MacOS 10.2.x, and will create a virtual output audio engine which is selected by default in the sound control panel when no other audio device is detected. This extension will run on any model of hardware, and may prove useful for any model without a built in sound device. Click the applications icon in Airfoil Source Selector to get Airfoil to hijack the audio. Click on the Airfoil Source Selector icon in the window to connect/disconnect the speakers to Airfoil. Note: the audio source applications (e.g. Firefox) need to be installed in your /Applications folder.
If a sound source application cannot be found when Airfoil Source Selector launches, the related icon will be disabled.

It has been developed on Windows XP running Java 1.5, and also tested on linux 64-bit system (Gentoo AMD64) using sun-jdk-1.5.0.03. So these combinations should be fine. I dont think it works with earlier java-versions than 1.5, atleast not very good.
