The goal of BioX is to bring easy-to-use sequence analysis to Mac-using biologists. It features graphical editors for sequences and multiple alignments, and supports opening and saving of many different sequence file formats.
Analysis functions currently include searching for primers, restriction sites and repeats, calculating DNA melting temperature, translation and back translation, multiple alignment and more.
BioX takes advantage of the Unix underpinnings of Mac OS X by using command line sequence analysis tools from the ebiotools package (which contains software from the EMBOSS project, among others). By presenting these Unix tools in the form of a Mac application, BioX leverages the best of both worlds.

iSlurp is a java-based client for the iTunes song-sharing protocol. Allows you to download songs instead of just streaming. Given that this is beta software, please contact me with any bugs. If youre using the platform-independent version, please include the error_log file with any correspondence.

Matron is a freeware (it is now, it will stay that way) MATLAB Frontend for Mac OS X.
If you dont like accessing MATLAB from the Terminal, and cant launch the Java graphical front-end (i.e. you have an Intel mac - and the Mathworks hasnt still updated MATLAB Java portion), Matron may help.
Matron provides standard Mac OS ways for:
- Launching MATLAB environment
- Opening your working directory through selection in a standard system dialog
- Launching a .m file
- Loading a list of the variables currently in working stack
- Making a plot or histogram from a variable
- Drawing a matrix as a greyscale image
- Re-issuing one of the ten previous commands

3DBlur 1.0b2 is an impressive and unique game which will catch your attention immediately.

3DBlur is a Cocoa-based first-person game in which you fly a vehicle through a series of canyons, gaining as many points as you can before you crash. Score points by flying under rocks and other obstacles that block your path. Some obstacles are more difficult than others, requiring you to pull off some tricky moves in order to stay in the air.

To play 3Dblur, simply steer your plane using the arrow keys or the mouse. You will always move foreward, although more slowly when you're flying upward. When you complete an obstacle, the number of points you receive briefly appears in the middle of your screen. Your total score is displayed in the upper left corner. Some noteworthy or especially difficult obstacles have special names that appear on your screen when you pass them. These names also show up on the high scores list as commendations.

3DBlur is in continuous development and currently features four obstacle courses, seven terrain styles, and a level editor.

Acuity 1.0b2 offers a convenient RSS feed reader for 68k Macs which allows those Macs running the classic Mac OS to have access to RSS feeds. If you've used the Internet at all in the last few years, no doubt you've heard of RSS. RSS (commonly understood to mean "really simple syndication," though different names exist) is a format for online data that allows website publishers to quickly and easily disseminate quick content updates to their readers. This can be especially useful for sites that publish constantly updating news stories.

RSS is a modern and evolving format. The specification is still being defined. That hasn't stopped many publishers from using it already, however. In fact, RSS is so popular that Apple and Mozilla have built support for RSS "feeds" into their browsers! There are, of course, many full featured RSS readers for Windows and OS X, but there are virtually none for OS 8 or OS 9 (and there really are none for 68k Macs).

Acuity allows the contents of a feed to be browsed as a list of headlines. Click on a headline to view that story's summary as prepared by the publisher. Feeds can be auto

Requirements:

• Acuity will run on just about any Mac that can run OS 8 or later.
• Auity requires a 68020 or better (including PowerPC), a network connection, Mac OS 7.6 or higher, and at least 2 MB of RAM.
• Although the GUI was designed to support 512x384 sized screens, it assumes you've got 640x400 or better. You can make Acuity work with a 512x384 screen if you must.
• Other than that, there are no specific system requirements.

Clutter is a small Mac OS X application that lets you put music CDs on your desktop. You can drag them anywhere -- theyre really windows. Line them up neatly or put them in piles, its your choice. Each one looks like the real CDs cover, and double-clicking it tells iTunes -- or your SqueezeBox or SoundBridge -- to play that CD.
Think of Clutter as an alternate user interface to your music collection. When deciding what to play next, instead of searching through a huge alphabetical list, let your eye roam over the covers of your favorite CDs and those youve been listening to recently.
Theres a main window that shows the CD youre now playing -- the cover picture is looked up automatically from from Amazon.com or from iTunes 4, or you can paste in your own. (You can also export pictures to iTunes 4.) To keep a CD around for easy access, just drag the picture out of the window onto your desktop. Then double-click it whenever you want to play it.
Enhancements:

- Clutter is better about repositioning windows that no longer fit onscreen (due to a resolution change, or disconnecting a display) and restoring them to their original position when possible.
- You can now type or use the arrow keys in the browser window without having to click on the list first.
