DockSwitcher3 1.05 is a beneficial and easy to use application which allows you to have an unlimited number of dock settings. You can have one with internet applications, one with games, one with ... You can select which dock you want from a system wide menu that appears next to the clock. You can also launch applications from any dock setting using the system wide menu to access the contents of that dock in a submenu. Startup on login. Popup Dock 2.0.5 is a beneficial application designed to work as an extension of the Dock. Instead of cluttering up the dock with every item you want quick access to you can use Popup Dock for most of them and leave the dock for the few items you use all the time. Popup Dock also includes built in support for executing AppleScripts.

The version 2, has been greatly improved upon over version 1 in both usability and appearance. Popup Dock 2 now looks a lot like Apples dock and also behaves like is as well. You can add, remove and move items around just like Apples dock and Popup Docks can be dragged to the side of the screen where they can be set to hide of the edge of the screen just like Apples dock. Other features include the ability to assign hot key combinations to Popup Docks and to toggle a Popup Dock between displaying all it's items and an iconized state. Popup Dock now, as well as executing AppleScripts, is now AppleScriptable it's self.

DockSwap 2.1.1 is a very serviceable tool which extends the usefulness of the OS X Dock. Allows you to save different Dock states, for easy access to all of your files/docklings/folders. Saved Dock's retain all attributes, hiding, pinning, size, magnification, as well as retaining documents, apps, folders, and Docklings. DockSwap is most useful when added to your login items via System Preferences - Login. Click and hold DockSwap's Dock icon for quick access to saved Dock states. Disable DockSwap's Dock Icon to save space. Registration costs what you feel it is worth!

MultiDockX 1.5b is a program for extending the usefulness of Apple's Dock software currently being shipped with OS X. The main problem with the Dock application is that many users will want to load it up with so many programs that the icons get so small to the point that they are hard to see and difficult to manage.

To circumvent this problem, MultiDockX creates multiple dock configurations and loads them into the Dock application dynamically as the user needs. Therefore, a user can keep all of his/her graphics applications on one Dock called "Graphics" and all of his/her DTP applications on another called "DTP", etc. This reduces the clutter and helps keep the dock from becoming overloaded.

Furthermore, MultiDockX allows the user to keep different preferences for his/her different docks. Thus if you have a "Graphics" dock, you can set it to auto-hide in order to make more room for your work, but all the rest of your docks will stay visible. Also, you can put one dock on the left side of the screen, and another at the bottom, and each dock will remember where it needs to display when it is loaded. The user can also include a particular application on more than one dock at a time. Thus if you always want to have access to iTunes, you can keep it on all of your docks.

MultiDockX also allows you to edit dock configurations without going to System Preferences. It even lets you edit the configurations for docks which are not currently visible.

When you enable submenus, MultiDockX becomes a handy, system-wide application launcher and document organizer which takes up as little screen real estate as possible. MultiDockX is also the only dock manager utility on the market which has SimulDocks?, a feature which allows you to switch between various docks by "mousing over" the edges of the screen.

Note that MultiDockX only allows you to have one dock on screen at a time.

MultiDockX is lightweight augmentation to Apple's Dock. It requires under 500k disk space and runs inside 600k of memory. It also retains all the features of the Dock, which means there is no relearning, and the Dock will continue to function even if you quit MultiDockX or uninstall it.
It is also the fastest and cheapest shareware solution that I have found for managing the dock.
