MPressionist.X Pro SD 3.0.3 offers DVD authors and professional video compressionists a premastering and diagnostic tool for DVD picture quality which is currently available only for Macintosh.
Offering a feature set unavailable in any other product on any platform, MPressionist.X makes it possible for desktop video authors to achieve the same level of control over the compression process that the big Hollywood studios use in their million-dollar compression studios. By providing key feedback on the results of compression, the author can quickly identify potential problem areas in the compressed bitstream without having to watch the entire compressed file. Using quantitative analysis, determine whether the encoded bitrate is too high or too low, and work in an iterative process to fine-tune your compression.
No more "feeling around in the dark" for correct settings. Demystifies the relationships between settings in the encoder and the resultant MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video file. Provides "at a glance" diagnostics for checking 2:3 pulldown flags, MPEG timecode, GOP structure and more. Screenshots of the product in action are available on the Digigami MPressionist.X www site. A limited version of MPressionist.X is built into MegaPEG.X and can be found in the freely available Demo version of MegaPEG.X.

MPressionist HDTV 3.2 is a simple, stable and fast multimedia editors tool. Digigami MPressionist HDTV is an all-new version of Digigami's premiere MPEG video diagnostic tool. The new version has been extensively optimized for the G4 and G5 processors using the Velocity Engine. The tool gives the broadcast engineer complete access to the video bitstreams in MPEG-2 Transport or Program streams, with built-in demultiplexing features that can extract individual elementary streams from multi-program system multiplex files captured live or directly from encoder sources.
MPressionist HD provides access to all sequence, group_of_pictures, and picture layer header values, allowing the engineer to check time code, determine if flags are set correctly and generally double-check bitstream requirements. Works with all DTV video formats, including 1920x1080i, 1280x720p, 704x480i, 720x480p, 720x576i etc. Graphics overlays are superimposed over the moving picture, providing access to both stream-level and picture-level statistics and compression values. Correlate bitrate fluctuations with compression changes.

Helix Maintenance Manager 1.0.5
Helix Maintenance Manager brings users a very convenient tool which automates the process of managing your Helix Databases more>>
Helix Maintenance Manager 1.0.5 brings users a very convenient tool which automates the process of managing your Helix Databases (Collections) Making backups, running the Helix Utility and Update Collection, notifying you of problems (or success) and relaunching your database, all from within a single application.
The Helix Maintenance Manager (HMM) was designed by Ryan Wilcox and Jared Barden based upon Lenny Eiger's Database Chequer, picking up where Database Chequer left off. Whether you work on one Helix collection or many, the Helix Maintenance Manager will put your mind at rest. HMM lets you create a separate QA script for each collection managed by Helix Maintenance Manager, and each can have its own activity log, telling you when your tests were run, what was found, what actions were taken and whether or not the result was successful.
HMM comes with the ability to run both built-in and externally-supplied scripts. One particularly useful script connects to your email and sends you a message with the results of utility run. Got a script that will call your pager? HMM can use it to give you the good news (or bad news) in plenty of time to avoid a catastrophe! HMM is the OS X solution for coordinating and managing all your Helix diagnostic and backup needs.
In HMM, you create maintenance plans, one for each Helix collection you will be managing. These plans cover how you will back up, what tests will run in what order and what errors will or won't be corrected, what will be recorded in the maintenance log, whether or not you will receive additional notification, what steps to take if diagnostics fail, all at your discretion. Plans provide you options such as what script you might like to run before shutting down access to a server, how the tests are conducted and what to do after they run. You can keep things simple or build in a tremendous amount of additional functionality. It's all in the Plan.
There's a 100-plus page guide that comes with HMM, but don't let it scare you into thinking that HMM is hard to learn. If you run your Helix Utility and Update Collection often, you already understand something of what they do and why you should use them. HMM extends the power of those tools in a way you'll find is actually quite simple to use. Any "complexity," such as it is, comes from navigating your way all the things you can do with it.
At it's very simplest, you can create a Plan that will run HU and UC on a collection, just like you could do in they heyday of Database Chequer. If you manage more than one Helix collection, you can, of course, create hundreds of such Plans, one for each collection you'd like to manage.
In HMM's Plan setup window, you can select an option that will stop any running Helix applications on the machine where you'll be testing. You can further specify that the collection be relaunched after a successful utility run. You can even specify which backup to use in its place should the collection be deemed fatally damaged by either HU or UC. You can tell HMM to make a copy of the collection before running HU or UC. It can be told to make another backup of the collection after it successfully passes boht HU and UC.
That's already a whole lot more control than you've ever had of this process. Now, tell it when you'd like all this to happen. What time? What day? Which days? What times? In fact, wouldn't it be cool to just open your favorite calendar program and lay out a schedule in as much detail as you need and then somehow hook it up to HMM?
With HMM's helper application, HMM Scheduler, HMM can "watch" your calendar and perform backups and diagnostic runs when scheduled. This way, you can modify the schedule from any calendar that can link to yours without even opening HMM.
Requirements: Mac OS X v10.3 or higher, but can be used to run all the Classic Helix applications v5.2 or higher.

CatDV 8.0b18
Video logging & media cataloging. more>>
CatDV 8.0b18 is a powerful tool for anyone who uses a DV camcorder or digital camera and wants keep track of all their media. You can think of it as all the following, and more:
- "iTunes/iPhoto for movies" Apple's iLife apps are great for MP3s and digital photos but CatDV will do the same for movies and tapes. What's more, CatDV works down to the level of clips and scenes within a movie file or on a tape, described by their timecode, not just at the coarse level of complete files on disk.
- Logging tool: Don't wear out your tape and deck by shuffling it back and forwards as you identify the scenes to use and annotate them. Capture the tape to disk (in compressed form) and log from disk, giving you instant access to any portion of the tape. Use automatic scene detection to take the drudgery out of finding scene boundaries, or use the Verbatim Logger to type in comments, such as notes on the spoken dialogue or the text for subtitles, while the clip is playing - everything you type will automatically be linked to the appropriate timecode.
- "QuickTime Pro" : QuickTime 7 is fantastic technology. It's much more than a file format but a complete set of components for creating and manipulating all kinds of media files (including MPEG-4 files and the amazing new H.264 codec). However, not all its capabilities are available with the standard QuickTime Player application. CatDV unlocks many of the same extra capabilities as QuickTime Pro: you can play movies, present them full screen, edit movies by assembling clips in sequence, and export them using any QuickTime codec (for example to use on the web, CD-ROM, or a 3G phone). If you have a video-capable iPod, use CatDV to generate iPod-compatible videos of all your key footage and take it with you, wherever you are.
- Batch movie conversion: CatDV goes further than QuickTime Pro and lets you batch compress multiple movies, and you can easily export not just whole movies but also individual scenes from within a movie file, or even a complete program defined by an edit decision list.
- Media asset management: CatDV will catalog all your media assets, not just video tapes but also still images, audio files, Flash files, PDFs, etc. With powerful metadata capabilities (both extracted automatically and entered by the user) that can be used for searching and filtering, CatDV will help you organise all those assets - and retrieve them again when you need them.
- Advanced workflows: You might have video files coming in via FTP, or a tapeless camera such as the Sony XDCAM, often with metadata in an associated XML file. You can use CatDV's XML support, and features like watch folders, to build complex automated workflows that preserve your existing metadata, and allow you to add new tags and annotations, at every stage of the process.
- Video editing: Mark and in and out points and quickly create a cuts-only sequence from the clips you've found, all from within your asset management database. Export your edited sequence as a movie, or send an edit decision list to Final Cut Pro (or other non-linear editing application) to finish the editing there.
- Subtitling and text tracks: With CatDV you can quickly and easily add text tracks when exporting movies. Perhaps you want to add subtitles, the clip or project name, or protect your clips by burning in a copyright notice. You can even add a burnt-in display of the timecode or date and time of recording (in the style of a security camera).
- Web page generation: Use CatDV to export web pages with thumbnails and links to low bandwidth versions of your media files, perhaps to advertise a library of stock clips, or create a film strip version of an edited programme to show on your intranet.
- Diagnostic tool: Got a file that won't play properly? CatDV's media analysis tool will display detailed information about the format of the file and individual tracks within it, even down to the durations of individual samples, helping you identify missing codecs, corrupt movies, or dropped frames. CatDV will even natively analyse many formats not supported by QuickTime, such as WMV/ASF and OMF files.
Major Features:
- Build up thumbnail catalogs with searchable metadata and log notes
- Automatically split a DV movie into separate shots
- Create and manage preview versions of your footage to use when the originals are offline
- Present slide shows of selected stills or clips
- Export clips to a different codec or as a web page.
