Cineon/DPX Pro for Final Cut Studio 2 3.0.14

Cineon/DPX Pro for Final Cut Studio 2 3.0.14 is an effective program that allows Final Cut Studio 2 and just about every other QuickTime aware application, to work with Cineon or DPX image sequences.

A Timecode track is automatically available when importing and exporting sequence. Rock-solid playback is now available for any applications. Everything fro 1K and 720p to HD and 2K playback is possible. Final Cut Pro editors can now edit directly, with their footage, eliminating the need to convert all of the frames to an intermediate QuickTime movie.

For those that own AJA's Kona 3 hardware, you can now preview your Cineon or DPX footage, real time using the video out.

You can now batch export using Compressor 3. You can even take advantage of a Qmaster render farm, to speed up your exporting process.

Major Features:

1. Full Integration into Final Cut Pro: With the Glue Tools Pro for Final Cut Studio 2 package, productions can import and export Cineon or DPX sequences right into Final Cut Pro. No additional processing is required. Metadata from the Cineon and DPX files also goes directly into Final Cut Pro, along with the Time Code and Imagery. Information concerning color choices, shot notes, and other slate information is passed from the Cineon or DPX header right into Final Cut’s XML format. Also, Cineon or DPX frames can be exported directly out of Final Cut Pro. No rendering needed. The Glue Tools Components are ideal for sending DV or HD shots off to Digital Intermediate sessions or even to Film.
   
2. Playback
   • On capable systems with high speed storage, the Cineon/DPX Components can deliver rock-solid playback speeds. On slower machines, including laptops, the ability to “scrub” through a shot, is now possible. Regardless of the system’s capability, the Cineon/DPX Components enable any QuickTime application to have a Cineon or DPX frame flipper “built-in.”
   • When the components are used within Apple’s QuickTime Player, the production staff has the ability to create QuickTime movies out of a range of Cineon or DPX frames for later review. This is a cost effective alternative to the expensive digital playback systems currently on the market. With this solution, the production staff can preview Cineon or DPX sequences on their own laptops or desktop computers. If they have the Cinematographers/ Colorists’ LUT files they can even see the frames as they were intended.
3. 3D LUTs
   • 3D LUT files can be used with the Cineon and DPX Components for preview. Files that are created during the Digital Intermediate session, or LUTs created by hardware devices such as the LUTher box, can be used. Supported LUT files include Apple’s Color 3D LUTs, Pandora 3D LUTs and LUTher 3D LUT text files. Other formats will be added shortly.
   • Colorists and Cinematographers will especially like the new 3D LUT support. With a LUT file, these professionals can quickly examine frames out in the field, to see what the footage looks like. The Cinematographer can easily switch between several pre-generated 3D LUTs to best judge their footage. With nothing more than QuickTime Player!
4. Time Code: Time Code is loaded right into any QuickTime application that supports Time Code tracks. Reel Names (Time Code track labels) can also be added for Application such as Final Cut Pro. During export, Time Code can be baked into the DPX header, as well. You can use the Time Code track that is provided by your application, or Manually Override it before saving out your sequence.
5. Metadata: Many hardware and software vendors offer the ability to embed Metadata information into the Cineon or DPX frames. A feature of these components is to retrieve these bits of information and make them available to your tools or applications. Final Cut Pro is already supported by the Glue Tools Cineon/DPX Pro for Final Cut Studio 2 package. But for your application, a development API is available to allow your custom application to have direct Metadata support.
6. Anamorphic Un-squeeze: Version 3.0 has the ability to change aspect ratios. Controls are now provided to have QuickTime un-sequeeze frames that have been shot with different aspect ratios. The supported ratios include: 1.33, 1.778, 1.85, 2.35, and 2.37.
7. Frame Rate: The Components now offer the ability to Override Preset Frame Rates. This makes the Cineon/DPX QuickTime components the ideal way to re-time shots from 24FPS to 23.98. Any combination of Frame Rates can be Overridden. When combined with the ability to Override Time Code Rates, the ability to simulate Telecine is possible.
8. Export: Independent filmmakers will find this to be the ideal solution, when exporting their HD projects out to film. With QuickTime and these Components, Indy Filmmakers can convert their entire project into Cineon or DPX sequences, so that they can have them color corrected at a DI facility, and then printed to film. With the new addition of the Compressor 3 plugins, you will now be able to batch render your sequences for high quality processing. Combined with Compressor 3, tasks such as scaling imagery, burying in Time Code, and even frame rate conversion is now possible.
9. Additional Features
   • Work with the raw files in their uncompressed native bit depth (10-bit RGB or 10-bit Log, for example). These files are not the compressed or transcoded movies that are generated from hardware capture cards.
   • Adjust your FPS from 23.97, 24, 25, 29.97 and 30 FPS on import and export.
   • Makes your PowerPC or Intel Macintosh Cineon/DPX aware. Finder allows you to view thumbnails, and Spotlight can search the Cineon or DPX headers. Ideal for finding Reel Names or timecode references.
   • Supports QuickTime 7.4 under MacOSX 10.4.11 Tiger, and MacOSX 10.5 Leopard.

11. Need to find that frame? Cineon/DPX Pro is now integrated into the Finder: You can see a thumbnail preview of a Cineon or DPX sequence by simply clicking on a frame. Spotlight plugins are also available so that you can search for frames based on notes, timecode or keycodes in the file’s header. With Cineon/DPX Pro, “Get Info” now has the ability to display information from the Cineon or DPX headers.
12. High Definition Video and Digital Film? The DPX components are ideally suited to work with 10-bit RGB data from High-Def Cameras such as RED, the Thomson-Grass Valley Viper and Panavision Genesis cameras. Load files directly into popular hardware systems from companies such as S.Two, Codex Digital, AJA or Blackmagic Design.
