Synk Standard 6.5

Synk Standard 6.5 is regarded as advancedly professional synchronization and backup for the rest of us. The Next Generation: Synk Standard is the spiritual successor to Synk 5, and contains the core set of backup and synchronization tools—scheduling, archiving, preview, rules, and so forth—in a new, redesigned interface, with new options. 2. At a Glance: The first thing you'll see when you open Synk Standard is the brand-new summary display. At a glance, you can see the status of any scheduled runs that have executed since you last opened Synk, any problems detected, and generally anything that would warrant your attention.
3. Knowledge is Power: Text logs are so 20th century. Synk Standard features a new, database-driven log system that allows you to view, filter, and search your run history in ways never before possible. Also can include more information in the database, so that the info you want can be available when you need it, but not cluttering up a text file and getting in the way when you don't need it.

5. Look Before You Leap: Synk's preview display shows you exactly what's going to happen before it does, giving you the chance to check in on things, make manual overrides, and test out your rules to make sure you've got them right before committing all of your data to them.
6. Be Exclusive: Synk automatically excludes a lot of files that really aren't needed. (Is it truly important that your Safari cache be prepopulated when you restore your system?) There may be additional files that you don't want copied, however, and Synk Standard has you covered. Simply create a rule to exclude the items you choose, using a wide range of criteria such as filename, size, label, and comments. You can even drop examples of what you want to exclude into the rule interface to automatically match with their attributes.

Enhancements:

• Now compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard.” Maintaining compatibility of this complicated tool across the increasingly wide technological gulf in operating systems has had the following consequences:
• • Receiving Growl notifications now depends upon the growlnotify tool being installed. It may be found in the standard Growl distribution download.
  • Playing sounds after run completion now depends on the afplay tool being installed. This is part of most standard OS installs, so most users won't notice any change.
• “Autorun on mount” is now supported on a wider variety of volumes, including locally attached FAT drives and many network mounts. The level of support may vary based on your version of Mac OS X. You will need to redefine the locations using those volumes in Synk's interface to take advantage of this new support.
• Replacement of a file with a package, or vice versa, is now supported.
• Synk now detects and flags an error if a volume UUID isn't actually unique, instead of just picking one basically at random. The help files now describe how to remedy the situation.
• Fixed the nefarious “parentScript is a required value” error message.
• Fixed an issue where correctly completed runs could briefly be reported as having crashed.
• Fixed a couple of issues in the blessing of bootable backups.
• Fixed a problem that allowed synchronizations to be configured using list mode. As this is not a legal configuration, this could cause a number of end symptoms.
• Fixed an issue where the progress bar could flicker while waiting on a preview.
• Fixed an issue where the ordering information between locations could become corrupted, resulting in inconsistent display and labeling.
• Minor performance improvements during file copies.
• The usual variety of general tweaks, improvements, and fixes.
