PowerRIP X 8.4 Ranking & Summary
PowerRIP X 8.4 description
PowerRIP X is a complete redesign of the previous PowerRIP 2000 version. It uses Apples OS X, ColorSync, and CUPS (The Common Unix Printing System) to create a seamless printer integration within the operating system.
PowerRIP X is a tool that creates accurate color or black and white proofs for graphic artists, photographers and printers from applications such as Quark 6, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Freehand. OSX by itself does not include, in versions 10.2 or 10.3, any built-in PostScript RIP for your printer with accurate color profiles.
PowerRIP X drives 69 Epson printers including the Stylus Color 3000 and the new 4000 as well as HP and Canon printers This is a new approach to PostScript printing. Now to setup PowerRIP X you only need to create a printer, one time, in Print Center and choose it in your application.
Apples Print Center on 10.2 or the Printer Setup Utility on 10.3 combine with CUPS to auto launch the PowerRIP application, which runs until the file is printed, PowerRIP then goes away until it is needed again. Printers can be driven by USB, USB to parallel, and Ethernet via TCP/IP, AppleTalk, and ATPrint.
Enhancements
- Supports all previous printers supported by version 7 and adds support for the Stylus PRO 4880, 7880, 9880. Free ICC profiling is available for the Stylus 4800, 4880, 7800, 7880, 9800, 9880. It is fully functional with Leopard (10.5), Tiger (10.4), Panther (10.3), and Jaguar (10.2).
