Its managed infrastructure supports applications and services residing in a logical level above the physical Java virtual machine and the native operating system. Within NetKernel all resources and services are identified by logical URIs which provides a layer of indirection above physical resources such as code and data.

- Caching is intrinsic - logical URI addresses identify all resources. Just as the Web uses proxies and caches to relieve server load, NetKernel caches computed resources at any level to eliminate redundant computations. NetKernels cache dependency hierarchy ensures instant invalidation when dependent resources change.
